: If you thought the battle between 50 Cent and Kanye West was over, you'd be wrong. While just about every expert is projecting that Kanye West will sell more albums, 50 Cent isn't taking his apparent loss sitting down.
MediaTakeOut.com exclusively learned that the Queens rapper has ordered executives at his record label Interscope to go out to record stores and purchase 300K copies of his album Curtis.
According to an Interscope insider, 50 Cent laid down the gauntlet to the record company on a conference call yesterday. The tipster told MediaTakeOut.com, "[50 Cent] basically told us that we were being too cheap with his project ... He laid out an ultimatum, either we go out and, using our own money, buy up 300K copies of Curtis. Or he'll leave [the label]."
And 50 Cent's strong-handed tactic may just work. The tipster explained to MediaTakeOut.com, "For [Interscope] to do what [50 Cent] is asking, we'd have to significantly increase our post-production budget ... But 50 Cent is our most important artist, so we're looking for ways to make accommodations."
Right now music industry experts are speculating that Kanye will sell approximately 750K copies of his album Graduation this week. Without Interscope's 300K album purchase, 50 Cent's Curtis is projected to sell only 600K.

It's really a shame that in this day and age we still have to deal with this. Blacks don't realize that even though we have come far, we have not come far enough as a people. Every black celebrity should be speaking out about the Jena 6. They should have done it at the awards show on Sunday. We really don't come together like we should to help our own. In the same town three months later, a 15-year-old Black girl, Shaquanda Cotton, is sentenced to seven years in prison for pushing a hall monitor at her high school. Shaquanda had no prior arrests, and the monitor, a 58-year-old teacher's aide, was not hurt, according to Black leaders in the northeast Texas town of about 26,000 residents. But in March 2006, the same judge, Lamar County Judge Chuck Superville, who let the White teenage girl go on probation, convicted Shaquanda of "assault on a public servant" and sent her to prison at least until she turns 21. Officials at the Texas Youth Commission declined to discuss the case with BET.com, citing Texas law. "State law forbids us from acknowledging whether we have any youths are in our system, despite the 50 million issues of print that's been run," said Jim Hurley, a spokesman for the Texas Youth Commission. "We'd have to break the law to talk about it." Civil Rights Uproar While the U.S. Department of Education is investigating the incident, the case has civil rights groups in an uproar. "I don't understand the judge's rationale for his decision," Dr. Howard Anderson, president of the San Antonio Branch of the NAACP, told BET.com. In highlighting what he called an egregious miscarriage of justice in a town with a long history of civil rights abuses, Anderson pointed to the case of the 14-year-old convicted arson (whose name was not released because of her age), who was slapped with probation, and the case of a 19-year-old White man in Paris, convicted of killing a 54-year-old Black woman and her 3-year-old grandson with his truck. NEW YORK - 50 Cent may be getting hip-hop's equivalent of a gold watch next week. Early reports have Kanye West beating 50 in their much-hyped battle of album sales: West's "Graduation" is on pace to sell about 575,000 to 700,000 its first week out, while 50 Cent's "Curtis" is on track to do 550,000, according to Billboard magazine.

Both albums came out Tuesday, and a confident 50 Cent famously announced that he would retire if West outsold him in first-week sales.
"I just don't view him as competition based on our previous sales histories," 50 Cent told The Associated Press last month.
But it looks as if 50 underestimated the power of West, and perhaps, overestimated his own appeal.
"I don't think it's helped 50 that so many of these prerelease singles that have come out have fizzled on the charts right away," said Jonathan Cohen, Billboard's senior editor. "There were street date changes. It has just not been a good run-up to this record for him."
Meanwhile, Cohen says West is having a more "charmed" experience, despite his recent tantrum at the MTV Video Music Awards after going home empty-handed.
"These tantrums he goes on, these outlandish comments he makes, they don't really hurt him," said Cohen. "If anything, they've got more people interested in what he's all about."
Still, don't finalize those retirement party plans for 50 just yet; there are several days to go before a final tally is determined, and he could catch up and overtake West.
"It is a projection," Cohen said of the initial sales predictions. "It can very easily deviate."
And there's still the potential of a third-party candidate winning the race: country superstar Kenny Chesney, who's "Just Who I Am: Poets and Pirates" also was released on Tuesday, is so far on pace to sell 400,000 to 550,000 copies.
