It's obvious that he has absolutely no clue what's going on in these pictures. Like others have said, he probably picked this up at the Goodwill with no idea of the cultural signifigance it has.

No not necessarily, what happened was whoever was the owner of that shirt probably gave it away to some salvation army or something like that, where he probably buys his clothes and he picked it up. Many mexicans go to places like the salvation army to buy clothes, furniture or whatever.. That girl that was the owner of the shirt didnt pay close attention to giving it away and where it was going.. I pledged that sorority 2 years in a row and still didnt get in, no comments on the ladies at Alabama State University, but my point is, it must be nice.. If I had made it in, I would keep all my shirts or whatever for life....

IDidSoCanYou... I swear this is no way disrespectfull, but I honestly want to know the significance of the "greek" in the frats and sororities. I never understood how black folks could rep so hard symbolism from another culture. Is it just the letters that are greek or what is the history behind it.
@sosincere, I don't think that was a disrespectful question, but rather a good question. I hate to answer a question with another question, but have you noticed that African Americans rep everything hard, rather it's their neighborhood, city, state, etc...We don’t own any of those things. We join these orgs because we feel, depending on our org, that it's the best org in life. The Greek community has done so much for the African American race and other races. 87% of people that are Greek graduated from college with at least a bachelor degree and is very successful. That percentage is about 2-3 years old, but as time goes on and orgs grow, I would assume that number would increase.
As far as the history of the Greeks, each Greek has a different background. I can only tell you the information that you can find on the net. It's not a secret society, but a society with a lot of secrets.
Fyi, and I'm not trying to be an a@@hole, but African Americans have being reppin symbolism from other countries since we were taken from African 400 years ago.

I am more concerned about the soror who thought so little of our beautiful sorority, that she chose to discard her shirt........who pissed her off?? She could have given it as a gift to a new soror, or her "special". @sosincere, you can Google "Black Greek Organizations" to find the meaning of the greek symbols....you may be surprised at what you might find out!!
first of all, how do you know this gentleman is mexican? did you even ask? second, how do you know he is an immigrant? did you ask? or just decided to make assumptions. he obviously does not know what those symbols stand for. at least he is just trying to earn a decent living by working, just like those other men in the background. you should probably learn from them. i do not find any humor in this type of media.
As a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta sorority, Inc. I do not find humor in this picture. It seems some sorors have forgotten what it means to wear these letters. These letters represent much more than this joke, or maybe they don't remember or know because they didn't have to work hard to wear these letters and therefore do not take them seriously.
