America is a western society that completely fears, hates and seeks to erase black people and Africa. And I would say that most Black Americans (at least 70%)...also hate black people and Africa...but because they themselves are black, they don’t realize it.
They will curse the photos of a lynched black man hanging from a tree as white people sit around having a picnic...but they will not give birth to that black man again. Instead, they will marry the lynch rope and produce children who look more like the white lynchers at the picnic.
They will call out the words, “Mother Africa”...but the lowest, most despised, hated person in Black America is the authentic Black woman. And the reason is...her WOMB makes them black, therefore, she is the enemy. And they make all manner of excuse, create any and every bald-faced lie against her...their own mother...in order to place the White man’s mother above her...as a savior; as a bridge out of blackness.
Through the white man's mother, they lose the proof. They achieve the disconnection from black people's suffering...and BY DEFAULT...they join with White Supremacy, whether they be reddish-yellow, yellow, high yellow or vanilla-bean bi-racial...they become EXTRACTIONS of blackness that mainly reiterate "whiteness as normal--blackness is something you EVOLVE from" and bellies the slave master's contention that black people (Africans) are inferior and light skinned people are an "improvement".

So many Black Americans have forgotten that when they look upon African people or look upon the very darkest black woman...what they are seeing is the living REPLICA of their ancestors...what’s left of them...in their natural state. And yet, they don’t make the connection. Instead of cherishing and protecting the ethos of their ancestors, many of us...both African and Black removed from Africa...assist the slave master/colonizer in destroying, lying upon and degrading this image.
We claim that there's only one race...the human race....yet we hate the Blackness in human beings. We see blackness as a deformity...a curse that White women or White men can cure by breeding it out of us. We hate Africa itself.
And in the United States...we are encouraged to breed it out. Everytime we watch B.E.T (a true ni99er and coon channel) or countless films that highlight the beauty of Lightness and disallow representations of darkness...unless those representations are male and paired up with light or white images...everytime we see Mary J. Blige transmitting to little black girls that she can't possibly be cute unless she's got platinum blond hair...everytime we see a famous, successful black man choose a White woman or a Latina Woman (which on television and in the media is MOST of the time)...everytime we see Michael Jackson's Casper-white complexion or hear phone messages played on the news of him saying, "I hate my ni99er hair!"...everytime we step out of our front doors in America...we are given the message that blackness is inferior and sub-human and that the answer is to hate and ERASE it.

I am from Memphis and I am suprised. I had previously heard that he was engaged to a black woman when he initially got into office years ago. He was set to get married in D.C. and everything. Not sure what happened to the sister. He had SOME white support, but the commercial that was out (the one with the white Playboy girl)did major damage, to those racist people who were on the fence. But I don't believe he would have won anyway b/c Middle and East Tennesee are majority white areas, unlike West tennesse, mainly Memphis. And when I say white, I mean, big tire having, Confederate flag waving, Hee-Haw face looking White. REDNECKS, people! But the Ford family is full of surprises. They have their hands in a lot of political pots and all of that activity,and their "eccentric" behavior, on top of the infamous commercial did not bode well with Mr. Charlie and Ms. Ann. Marrying Ms. Threlkeld is not a good look politically. He must really love her to risk all of his hard work. |

I really don't care who he marries - I do care that here is another brotha - moving ahead, and one of us Sista's should be moving up with him.
I do have a problem with a missed opportunity for a Sista to be out front as the "Senator-to-be's" wife. Our daughters are running out of role models. A Senators wife has access to "POWER" and the ability to do greater works in the community and beyond. Wives attend events, fundraisers, state dinners, Senate Dinners, they get to socialize with people from all over the world. They can get things done just by mentioning that "they are Senator ____'s wife." I know that there is a Sista that could do this with the style, flair and politcal conscienceness, that comes with being this mans wife.
We need to have more of our daughters seeing that there is another world out there - besides aspiring to being a "video girl".

Harold Ford is an opportunist. He is very ambitious and this trait has gotten him in trouble. I can remember watching him be interviewed by one of the typical Fox news commentators who attempted to (and almost successfully did)expose him as a thief. He is alwasys talking about how he is a "Blue Dog". I wish he would realize that no one is concerned about him. Barack Obama has stolen his thunder.
The black woman he was engaged to stated that she knew that they would not be married because he was married to his work. I wonder if his new fiance will find out the same? He is so pitiful.
Lastly, to those who say that there is no response to the so called double standard (black women with white men), here is a response....
for years we have seen black me marry other races and say that black women are unable to utilize the correct fork at dinner (Wilt Chamberlin), we are too confrontational and do not know when to be quite (Wesley Snipes), we are not pretty enough (any rapper making a crossover music video), and that we are gold-diggers (many professional athletes. Enough is enough. So, if a black woman is being loved by a man of another race, we collectively say, "good for her". At least one of us is getting the love that everyone wants and deserves. |

First let me thank you for responding with your opinion. Now let me say, wow, you honestly base your assessment of black men by what professional athletes and entertainers say about black woman? I think it may be time for a re-assessment. Aren't these the same people we have been telling our youth for years not to look up too? There is not one athlete, rapper or movie star that I aspire to emulate. It's also not a "so-called" double standard if you try to justify it by saying, "well, black men have been doing it for years." It wouldn't be a double-standard if most sistahs were on here saying, "Go Taye, you have found love." or "Cuba has found someone who appreciates him." That's not what you are doing, it is all one-sided. It does nothing but give us more walls that we have to tear down in our black communities. There are so many sistahs here that believe most black men have betrayed you. As long as you hold on to that notion you will never see the strong black man that is standing in front you, ready to have your back. |

It's because there's an imbalance. That's why there's a double standard. BW/WM couples/marriages are far less prevalent than BM/WF couples. If the numbers were more equal, it wouldn't be an issue. Even though interracial couples are still in the minority, black men date/marry out at over twice the rate of black females. Why do you think that is? It's not because they are colorblind. In fact, it's probably the lack of color and black features that make non-black women so appealing to black men who do date and marry out. A lot of high profile black men in the media are photographed with their non-black spouses and that sends a message. How many high profile black men in Melony Hobseon's tax bracket don't fancy her because she's dark skinned? Anyway . . .cosign with whoever said that he must really love her to put his political career on the line for that white woman. I guess they're worth it. |

When are we going to see past the color of one's skin? You would think black people would be rejoicing in the fact that black-white couples exist in this country, for it shows how much we have progressed on the issue of race since the 60s. Would you rather have a black man who marries a white woman and society accepts it, or a society in which a white woman would not consider marrying a black man, and if she did, both may suffer physical harm?
People, wake up. Let's change our thinking. What we are seeing is just the beginning. We will see more interracial relationships in the future. So start accepting it now.
Viewing the comments shows that racism still exists in this country, but it's not just coming from whites. It's coming from black people who refuse to see past the color of skin. If a white person complained because a white girl hooked up with a black man, black people would call them racist. But when a black person does the same, it's fine. Sorry, but it's not. It's just as racist. |

I don't think it is as simple as love being blind. I think there's more at play. Are black men less blind because they date/marry out at higher rates than black women? Is the reason why there's such a disparity, because black women are more racist? If love were so blind, wouldn't the rates of interracial dating/marriage between black men and women be the same? You can talk about looking past skin color all you like, but do we live in a society where all women are judged equally, regardless of skin color, or do we live in a society that uplifts certain women and not others? |
