Just for one example, take a look at any one of these documentaries or books on gang violence and most of these guys attribute their involvement in gangs due to the fact that they had no positive male role models in their lives. They also say they wanted the cohesiveness that they didn't have at home. How is a single mom expected to teach a boy how to be a man when she is also trying to work one or two jobs trying to provide on her own? You can't dispute the fact that having a family as a cohesive unit is way more beneficial to a child's life. Remember this, in a single mom household, you didn't grow up quicker by choice, you were forced to grow up faster due to circumstances. Just like PL said, that normally has a long-tern affect on that individual and it isn't always positive. Some also have trouble dealing with relationships when they are older.

C, it's a child, they aren't old enough to understand the complexities of a male/female relationship so how could you think it is there fault when then they are targeted by older men in gangs. Of course they will look at them as if they are father figures, because the real father figure is no longer at home. Like I said, one of the most common reason for young men and women to join a gang is because they do not have a cohesive family unit. We need to educate our children and it makes it that much more difficult if a woman is trying to raise a man on her own.

I'm learning by trial and error and it's rough.
