: A few weeks ago MediaTakeOut.com told you that Mary J Blige's new album Growing Pains was having trouble setting a release date. In our initial report we told you that the album was being pushed back from November 27th to December 11th to avoid a confrontation with Beyonce's new cd/dvd release (see article here)
Almost immediately after we reported that, Mary's reps reached out to us and assured us that Growing Pains would be released on November 27th. They even begged us to post that the release date was set November 27th (which we did).
Well here we are only a few weeks later and, low and behold, Mary's release date has been pushed back to December 11th. And how are we at MediaTakeOut.com so sure of this, you ask. Well, 'cause that's what both Amazon.com and iTunes tell us.
And we're not the only one that's confused. MediaTakeOut.com spoke with one music retailer who told us, "It's crazy, one day we get a call from someone saying the release date is in December, then the next day they say it's late November, now they're saying December again ... I'm getting dizzy trying to keep up with them."
Hopefully between now and whenever the heck they release the album, Mary's people will get it together. Cause they're on the verge of causing a MAJOR CATASTROPHY!!!

I wish they would stop pushing the release date back, but die hard fans like me will buy Mary CD regardless. And she looks good!
By the way, why is it every time MTO posts a story regarding another female artist, Beyonce name always has to come up in some shape or form? Yeah she doin' it all right now, but people are obviously tired of her! And trust me, just at the point where people about to kill themselves if they hear anything more about B, Mary will release her schitt and it will be a breath of fresh air! they are nervous as hell because the single has NOT been getting the support her previous singles have gotten. i have BEEN saying this. geffen should push the album til next summer or later. 'just fine' is trash, and the sh!t should've never seen the light of day as a single. jazze pha is not a strong hit maker. they are fallin in the same track they were in when love & life dropped, and love & life barely went platinum. they know that if she drops growing pains, its gonna bomb. mary has never her date moved up and down like this with the exception of the mary album, for which they moved it up 1 week, but even that album wasnt nowhere near her best. geffen is shook. this albums gonna bomb hard, if they dont fall back and retool this project. its not gonna do nowhere near 'breakthrough' numbers, unless the label buys em themselves.

This is for Dreama and all the other idiots, Beyonce has sold at about 60 million with Destinys Child and about 20 million by herself. Mary J has sold about 30 million worldwide since 91( I could be wrong about this but still Beyonce has sold more). Beyonce has 10 grammys, Mary J has 6. I understand that Mary is regarded as the queen of hip hop soul but that does not mean she would sell more than Beyonce. Plus there is no competition cause Beyonce is releasing a cd/dvd of live music, that is not an album and will not recieve the same promotion. If Mary didnt sell more then there would be a problem. But if there was a show down Mary would lose in all catergorys.
Uh ok first off "JUST FINE" Mary's first single is the mothafudgcake JAM! It's a feel good record. SECOND why just to have a hit a female gotta do a hip hop beat!? Can't a chick switch her style up and still have fans? I love the sound on the single and I liek the fact that it's different. That's what's wrong with the industry everybody gotta sound the SAME in order for most of you damned people to LIKE it! So damn shallow. LASTLY Why are she and Beyonce being compared? They are a decade plus apart in the ages and two totally different kinds of artists. Bottom line is Mary will ALWAYS go platinum because she HAS that fan base it's there. Her fans whether they like her music or not are going to buy her album! My girl B is the same way! Her albums will ALWAYS sell because she has that fan base. People DOGGED her about Deja Vu and guess what my girl STILL went platinum the 2nd week if not the first I believe! So let them be and do them If they released the album on the same day it wouldn't make no mind they will still both sell like they always have! Mary and Beyonce don't compare. Sorry. Their singing styles are totally different. Compare Mary with someone who is more close to her style of singing. Compare Beyonce to someone who is more close to her style of singing. It doesn't make any sense comparing two people who has two different singing styles. It doesn't matter how many awards each have, how much they sell, none of that because they don't perform in the same category.

1st off, Let's get one thing straight! Mary is the Queen of Hip-Hop Soul. And after nearly 20 years, she still holds that title! So give her the respect she deserves. Yes, she's sould 30 million worldwide, and guess what, she did it alone! Not with the help of other group members. She's a solo artist and all the money she's earned, she has done it by herself!
Now as far as the new single goes, (Just Fine) a lot of you guys are hating on the song because it's a sound that you are not used to hearing from Mary. It's fresh, like nothing else on radio today. This is the formula for Mary's sucsess. The reason she is still around after all these years is because everytime she returns with a new album, she comes with something different. She has to be innovative in order to survive, because if she doesn't, her music will easily be drowned out by everyone else's. So I understand why she came with something totally left field this time around, because she has to step out of the box in order to for her music to be heard.
Th song is HOT! I don't care what any of you say. The beat is hot, the lyrics are positive and for anyone to hate on this track, they have to be an extrememly miserable person. The song is all about positvity, and if you can't relate to it, then you must be unhappy in your life!
At this point in Mary's career, she has nothing to prove to anyone. MAry has already put out the #1 R and B Song of all time (Be without You), album has sold more in one week than any other female artist in history(730,000)! Everytime Mary steps back into the game, she hits platinum! Even with her weakest effort, "Love & Life", she still went platinum. And why? Because people will support MAry any way it goes. She's a legend, a Queen. She's been through hell and for her to bounce back and still maintain her title says a lot about her! She's respected by everyone!
So yeah, Beyonce is cool, But you have to give Mary her props for what she's acheived in the music business and how she changed the sound of Music today!
Regardless of if she doesn't hit another 730,000 first week sales, or if she doesn't have another #1 single for 15 straight weeks, or if her album doesn't do good as "The Breakthrough", she's still made her mark in the game. And she will still and forever be a legend in the music business!

a lot of people dont like this song because (and rightfully so), mary is conforming to whats already been done, instead of leading the way and raising the bar, which she normally does. i dont blame em. i hate the song too. it truly sounds like some janet jackson sh!t. i can easily see ciara doin it. the song is made for people of their caliber.

Mary reinvents her sound? Mary's first album after Beyonceitis was "Love and Life" her happiest album to date. Someone also told Mary that it was good idea to dance in her video although she has a limited amount of rhythm. The album yielded no hits and quickly fell off the charts mainly because no one wants to party with Mary J. Blige. They would rather her sing her trademark "I-love-him-he-don't-love-me-I'm-so-tired-of crying" songs.
When she returned to the formula that made her famous she had what many considered the best year of her 14-year career. She had her longest running #1 "Be Without You" and won her first televised Grammy.

Well, if the first single is any indication of how the rest of the album is going to sound, then they need to push it all the way into 2008. It may be different from the stuff that she usually does, but sometimes it's better to stick to what works. Love Mary but I just can't get into this new song of hers.

All of your comments on this subject have been on point. Your comments were substantiated by facts. Unlike most posters, who forgot that MJB sampled a lot of old school music from the 70's and early 80's earlier in MJB's career. It's ok to love MJB and Bey but, people should not let emotions get in the way of what is factual.
