: Rapper Kanye West's mother has died.
A spokesman for West said Donda West died Saturday night in Los Angeles.
Donda West served as chief executive of West Brands LLC, the parent company of her son's business enterprises, according to a biography on the Web site of the Kanye West Foundation, which she chaired.
She was the former chairwoman of Chicago State University's English department and recently published the book "Raising Kanye: Life Lessons from the Mother of a Hip-Hop Star."
A cause of death has not been released.

I am so sad. I am literally balling on the floor. I just lost my Mom earlier this year and it is hard to deal with. He has already been through so much and to have this happen to him at the height of his career is tragic. Life has a way of taking you off that stage. All I can say to you Kanye is to BELIEVE in your heart that Jesus is indeed walking with you. Right now He is probably carrying you. I will keep you in my Prayers and in my cd player. God Bless.

I almost lost my mother tragically and suddenly this year as well, and although she pulled through I still get emotional at the thought and you guys words just made me more emotional but inspired and hopeful none the less.
To Kanye, baby my heart is soo with you right now. I can only hope that you allow the lord to help you with this burden and dont let it bring you down. Your mom would want you to persevere!

Lets not call the woman selfish or assume she was trying to look "whiter" She could have been getting lipo or tightening her face for those like some readers on MTO who attack and belittle artist moms (i.e. Tina Knowles, Diddy's mom, Venus & Serena's moms) THey too have the pressure of the spotlight and trying to stay younger looking and look good while supporting their children and having to be in public. Lets not judge. And it was not selfish of her. Many people do things to make their appearance better be it hair color braces, teeth whitening to more extreme metthods so lets not call out this woman because of her choices. Dr. West was truly a wonderful woman, mother, mentor, and educator. Kanye, I pray that your heart heals. We all love our parents but his mom was loved by many.
Thank you Dr.West for the time you helped me convince the chairmen of my department that I needed to take 6 classes instead of 4. You knew how much it meant to me to graduate in 4yrs and you helped me when nobody else would.
You critiqued my writings and inspired me to always remember that as I write, dig deep.

This is a tragedy and Kanye will remain in my prayers. Im truly sorry for his lost. Atleast he knows that he was loved and he put a smile on his mother's face cause she was proud of him. He always talked about how close he and his mother were and I know he feels like he lost his best friend in the whole world.. That poor baby has a heavy heart right now. As for Kanye's mom...well, the story is now old, but it must be tough losing a parent. Forutunately for me, both of mine are still alive. I thank God for that. In the meantime, my heart goes out to the West family.
