: Another member of the entertainment is headed for skid row. MediaTakeOut.com just learned that American Idol winner Rueben Studdard is hurting for cashE!!! And it gets worse ... my man owes the IRS close to $200,000.
Here's how MSNBC is reporting it:
Ruben Studdard, American Idol winner and central tenant in Birmingham’s proposed entertainment district, has been hit with federal and state property liens for allegedly failing to pay nearly $200,000 in state and federal taxes, according to court records.DANG!! This recession is serious ....Studdard, a Birmingham native, owes the federal government $171,920 in unpaid income taxes, according to a lien filed in Jefferson County Circuit Court. He also owes $21,730 in state income taxes.
The majority of Studdard’s unpaid taxes stem from 2003, the year he won American Idol, and a $1 million recording contract. He owes $19,581 in state income taxes and $163,836 in federal taxes for the period ended Dec. 31, 2003, court records show
But look on the bright side. If things get serious, his new wife can go back to her TIP-DRILL VIDEO WAYS and make some gwop the old fashioned way....
Just cause you owe some loot don't mean you broke. It could be he doesn't feel like paying it at the moment.

It's really sad. Although Ruben actually won American Idol, his runner-up Clay Aiken's career was managed much more efficiently. He even had a prime-time, hour long Christmas special on NBC a couple of years ago. Also Ruben had a niche with the passing of Luther Vandross and Gerald Levert. A lot of former "Idols" are doing Broadway shows as well.

I HEARD ABOUT THIS ON TOM JOYNER THIS MORNING, DUDE WAS SAYIN' BIG RUEB MAY HAVE A LIEN ON HIS VOICE (don't know how true this though), BASICALLY SAYIN' HE CAN'T EVEN SING TO MAKE MONEY, CAN THE IRS EVEN DO THAT, THAT DON'T SOUND RIGHT TO ME...IDK.
There is a difference between being broke and having a tax debt people!!! This "article" mentioned nothing about Rueben and his wife being homeless or hungry. And if some of y'all wasn't claiming Punkin's kids illegally on your taxes y'all would owe Uncle Sam too!!
And another thing MTO..........I am an avid, faithful MSNBC veiwer and MSNBC.com reader.........there has been no such article recently about Rueben being broke. If so, it was long ago when his "God-Father" was stealing from him............and that would make you late, yet again, with the scoop. (and before any of you get to poppin off at the mouth, I use MTO as a "for entertainment purposes only" read........this is pure tabloid!!!)

Why do you all like to kick people when their down and out, it could easily happen to any of you. Especially if your African American. Don't forgot, his family robbed him of a lot of his money and also he stills has his voice which they can never take from him so he really hasn't lost everything. He still has his gift...people wake up because the federal government is just targeting another successful young black person. His talent is worth way more than a measly $200,000. You can easily make it back Rueben as long as you keep that in mind. It amazes me at how much we as black people are like crabs in a barrel. We love to make fun of each other and crack jokes about situations that are very painful for anyone. We really need to grow up and start supporting each other more! When that happens, we can begin to benefit from giving to one another by getting back more than any of us could ever imagine...and I am not talking about money.
Hopefully Ruben can make a comeback. Only Kelly Clarkson has been the most sucessful AI contestant. Ruben needs to find an audience. I don't see Ruben having any longevity in the music business. Some people can sing in talent shows but it takes a whole lot more to remain steady in the music industry.
He was new with money and obviously didn't have the right people working for him.
He surely shouldn't have had such a lavish wedding being in that debt though.
His mother use to be all up in his business...I'm surprise she approved of him being with her...Dancing in videos and all that I thought Ruben was so super down south church goer....Yall remember Oprah when that woman came on the show she was all dressed up for Rueben and all around the time he won American Idol...
