NORFOLK, Va. - Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama on Wednesday accused Republican John McCain's campaign of using "lies and phony outrage and Swift-boat politics" in claiming he used a sexist comment against vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin.
Calling it "the latest made-up controversy by the John McCain campaign," Obama responded to the Republicans' charge that he was referring to Palin when he used the phrase "lipstick on a pig" at a campaign stop Tuesday.

On Tuesday, Obama criticized McCain's economic policies as similar to those of President Bush, saying: "You can put lipstick on a pig ... it's still a pig. You can wrap an old fish in a piece of paper called change. It's still going to stink after eight years."
The McCain campaign contended that the comments were directed at Palin, the GOP's first woman on a presidential ticket. In her acceptance speech last week, she had referred to herself in a joke about lipstick being the only difference between a hockey mom and a pit bull.
Accusing Obama of "smearing" Palin in "offensive and disgraceful" comments, the McCain campaign demanded an apology — though McCain himself used the folksy metaphor a few times last year, including once to describe Democratic Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton's health care plan.
The McCain campaign on Wednesday issued an Internet ad that said Obama was talking about Palin and said of Obama: "Ready to lead? No. Ready to smear? Yes."
Obama began a discussion of education at a Norfolk high school on Wednesday by assailing McCain's campaign.
"What their campaign has done this morning is the same game that has made people sick and tired of politics in this country. They seize on an innocent remark, try to take it out of context, throw up an outrageous ad because they know that it's catnip for the news media," Obama said.
Obama's campaign has accused the GOP camp of engaging in a "pathetic attempt to play the gender card." 1. Her son is going to fight for his country, that is the honorable thing to do. Maybe there were no WMD but there are a lot of terrorist brewing in Iraq. 3. Stop hating on Bush, and calling McCain a 3rd term. Give me one president who had to deal with 9/11, hurricane Katrina, and all the devastations President Bush and his administration had to deal with. People all over the world call Americans spoilt and selfish, let's not be that.
As a black woman I vote Republican because of my religous beliefs. I support my government and troops because of everything they are doing to keep us safe from terrorists.

Trooper! I'm going to admit that I'm probably not as well read on Black History as most on this site. But if the LBJ that you're referring to is Lyndon B. Johnson, he was not a Republican he was JFK's VP and he took over when JFK was shot. Second, I'm aware that a lot of blacks before the civil rights movement were Republicans because it was a Republican that freed the slaves (Lincoln). Third, from my reading, the reason blacks now support Democrats is because during the civil rights movement a bunch of racist Democrats decided to leave the Democratic party and form their own party called the Dixiecrats. The Republicans at the time were stupid enough to welcome them and thought that it would help them increase their majority in Congress. The Republicans were then seen as supporting racists and it stuck. A larger percentage of Republicans at the time supported civil rights legislation than Democrats but the racist label still stuck to Republicans. Al Gore's father at the time was a Senator and he did not support the civil rights legislation. That's my reading of it, but it is an intelligent conversation to have with you instead some of the garbage that I read on here most of the time.

First of all no one is getting angry, usually when a person types in all capital letters their angry. What you're saying about Bin Laden's family being the only people flown out of the States is a myth just the myth that Black People during Katrina were shooting and eating other Black People to stay alive. The funny thing was that Black People actually believed it. To say that Bin Laden has family in Saudi Arabia is like saying there are Mormons in Utah. It is the culture there, a lot of people in Saudi Arabia are related to each other they have big families and I'm not just talking about 2 or 3 people, I'm talking about 100's of them are related. There is a possibility that someone related to Bin Laden could have been in the U.S. at the time and once the planes were allowed to fly so were they. Yes, maybe that is where Bin laden is, but we don't know for sure. But what I do know for sure is that we get nearly all our oil from there. If you want Bush to bomb Saudi, are you prepared to pay $10 a gallon at the pump. And isn't he rumored to be in a cave, so you propose we bomb every cave in Saudi Arabia as opposed to Iraq were terrorists are openly training in the streets.

This is my first time officially posting on MTO. I am a MTO fiend. I find myself constantly reading and laughing at everyone's comments on a daily basis. I had to activate an account so I could post my comments. I will admit that both the black democrats and the black republicans offered good arguments.
But really we should not be debating each other only focusing on the issues. I believe that white republicans and many white democrats do not care about black people.
I can assure you that Mccain & Palin do not care about black people nor can they relate to me as an educated black woman and my struggles in America.
