I am one of those people that doesn't believe he ever had anything. I can't say why he "faked" it..but I know my medical training tells me his ass should have been dead or at the very least extremely ill. Hello everyone Magic johnson had HIV. I agree with some of the other post that Magic would not waste his time lying about HIV and going through all of the humiliation he went through at that time. Yes, there is a cure that the media will not tell you about, because of two big pharmaceutical companies over still fighting over the patent rights. When I was in college my professor disclosed a newspaper article that was never published for the mainstream audience to view instead this article was securely kept in the Detroit News library archives. An African scientist discovered the cure in Africa from a plant that has inteferon which fights HIV/Aids deficiency. So, someone like Magic who has the money to buy the cure bought it and it is cured. There has been others who have testified in various media outlets that were cured as well. So if you have the money you can get the cure. As for the conservative radio hosts there are probably just jealous of a rich powerful black man like there are of Barack Obama. Vote Nov. 4, 2008 |

Dick Gregory said YEARS AGO that Magic was on some fake sh*t when it came down to his HIV status. Not sure what the hell the brother has...But I do know that in some rare cases, people can be "carriers" of HIV, and able to transfer it to others, but not be afftected by the virus themselves.

While there is no real cure for HIV, the medications that exist can do a good job of suppressing the virus, to the point where it won't show up in the infected person's blood-work. I know this from experience, as my mom had it.
Until we look at his medical records, why make assumptions about him and his health? He's never appeared to be looking for sympathy. It's been the opposite in fact. His attitude has always been, "I have HIV, but it's not going to hold me back." |

I think it would be very stupid of him to reveal something so magnanimous and deadly and have the world turn against him (remember when he first revealed this, people turned their backs on Magic). Additionally, his own 'boy's were afraid of him because they knew that for years Magic AND them had been having unprotected sex with lots of girls over the years. As a singer and in a group which was very active in the 80's/90's, I personally saw much of this sexual cat-and-mouse going on with the ball players. Magic got plenty of his share- while Cookie was still in Michigan attending school. She knew also that he was 'busy'. Magic also got saved a while after. Now, I know many people do not believe in this - but I do! He had hands laid on him and the people in his church prayed for him and he claimed his HEALING from this disease. Yes, he continued to take the medication and Yes, he had the finances to get all he needed - but we believed that he was only HIV-infected - but did not have full blown Aids. Furthermore, the love and continued care from his wife, his family and his church and involving himself in service to others, I believe has increased his life on the earth because he is obeying God - and is walking in the will of God. It is true. IF you have the faith of a mustard seed, you can ask what you will and it will be done according to the power that worketh within you by the Holy Spirit. He is not the only one cured of this disease - there are others who have been cured-they are just not on the forefront. Faith in God is real. |

I agree with you with prayer, faith, proper medication, and good health habits can contribute to being healed. I still believe that there is a cure for HIV/Aids from a plant found in Africa from the research conducted in my college course. All through history it has ben proven that the government has withheld cures for polio (back in the fifties), cancer (now), and etc. for capital gain. Rich pharmeceutical companies and the government allow innocent people to die every day so they can make billions of dollars for so called research when in fact they've had the cure along time ago and wait to actually to release it. |

First, of all Magic LOVED playing basketball, so why would we FAKE this illness and end his career early when the previous year he had just taken his team to the CHAMPIONSHIP and they were prepared to go back the following year!

Now, you don't really think Magic is the only professional athlete in pro basketball that is HIV positive, no merely one who had the HEART to come forth and be honest about it! And there is a reason for this, GOD used his status as the GOLDEN BOY who could do NO WRONG in the eyes of AMERICANS as a tool to get the fact that this illness can get to ANYONE at ANY TIME! And it is logical to believe that since MAGIC accepted his fate that GOD HAS BLESSED him, his wife does not have it!, there child she was carrying does not have it!, and now he barely has it ALTHOUGH he does still have HIV!

Magic never had AIDS it was just part of a government conspiracy theory to kill off the black man and he played into it. The early 90's was around the time HIV/AIDS became a major issue in the black community and government needed a guinea pig to make African Americans feel like it was okay or not bad to contract the disease b/c "he" has it so what makes me different from him.
Eazy E (R.I.P.) contracted AIDS around the same time and died a couple of years later. If Magic really had AIDS how come Cookie never contracted the virus in two decades. Also NBA players were not signing large contracts in the late 80's or early 90's that would allow one to have the type of bread Magic has. He was paid off by the government. |

this is what i heard...
magic johnson was paid to fake aids and be the poster boy to get people to get out and get tested....then people (black people) would get tested and the doctors are telling them that they have it...after that the doctors would give medicine to help "cure" your aids...but! the medicine actually gave off the exact symptoms that aids is supposed to have....look up AZT=Death...that is the medicine that is given to hiv positive black folks...it is used to create a genocide to kill all or most african americans...that medicine is the acutal aids because you never even have the symptoms for aids until you actually take that medicine...seriously google it,there has been research on it for years!

If indeed he did have HIV/AIDS to begin with, he definitely isn't cured. I don't care how much money he has! Let me go ahead an put my medical training down...The fact of the matter is, the HIV or AIDS virus can hide inside your internal organs, thus giving the appearance that you are cured. You still have it though. If he had the virus, he can eat healthy and get all the top knotch meds to slow the progression of HIV into AIDS, but over 2 decades?...I'm a lil curious about that one. At some point in time he would have had some sort of hospitalization, even if from a cold. Keep in mind, his immune system is much weaker than the average, no matter how good his drugs are. If he said he had full blown AIDS, I don't know if he actually meant AIDS or if that was during the time that even HIV was called just AIDS. If he had AIDS during that time, then he would have definitely been in the hospitalization due to his illness at some point in time. When your T-cells hit below 200 (when you go into full blown AIDS) there's not a whole lot of time left for you, and I do stress again, no matter how great your drugs are! |

I've never believed this dude ever had HIV/AIDS. Look @ the time he "supposedly" contracted hiv the Lakers were unstoppable. That whole team damn near took different directions while they were a Dynasty! I believe it had a lot to do with Las Vegas and the big time betters...the MAFIA in general. Magic was paid off just like the rest of the talent that left LA Lakers during that DYNASTY. Magic being the prominent star got the bigger piece of the pie by becoming HIV/AIDS international spokesperson. Also when he made that statement that evening with the breaking news, his wife was PREGNANT & her & the baby tested NEGATIVE...HOW IS THAT SO! Like was said by someone above me the man has never been hospitalized for any serious illnesses or such, STtr8 Bologna Magic!!! I don't know what to believe. True he has money so he has the so he can buy the best treatment money can buy and there are people who have lived with HIV for 2 decades but if you have ever seen anyone who has lived with HIV for that amount of time you will notice that they age well beyond the years because of the drugs that are out to keeping them are live are also aging them. Not only have I seen this first hand because I know someone who has it but ABC News even did a story about this a while back.
Besides the fact that Magic looks better for his age than some people without aids does strike me as odd. And the problem with experimental drugs is that they have side effects. I have never personally heard of him suffering from any side effects. Not to mention what was once experimental drug back in the day are now common practice so why is it that he isnt suffering with the same problems if he had his hand on the drugs that are use to treat HIV today way before most people had them.
With all of this said I dont know everyone with HIV or AIDS and I cant say for sure that he doesn't have it or he does. I cant see him lying about it because why would he ruin his name like that. I think with everyone who post today their is some ignorance and I would hope that some who lives with it or are regular basis will post and straighten us out. |

I personally don't think that Magic was ever HIV positive. I believe he was misdiagnosed (he was given the wrong test results). I work for a medical lab that is known nationwide and performs diagnostic testing. It does happen. Tubes get mislabeled and sometimes are not caught. I believe Magic's doctors gave him the test results for someone else, which explains why it is not in his system. I think by the time his doctor's realized the mistake they made, it was too late. Magic had already announced to the media he was HIV positive.
Also, my family is from Zimbabwe, Africa, where having HIV/AIDS is so common. I know first hand how HIV/AIDS affects people. I have had 4 immediate family members die of the virus. One if these people was my aunt, who ironically was the head nurse @ the University of Zimbabwe and was in charge of HIV/AIDS awareness. She contracted it from her husband. She had access to all the top drugs because of her position. She used to get her medication shipped from here(The USA). And even with this she lived about 4 years with the illness. She passed away in 2000. He husband is still alive and but is sick as hell. He is not healthy looking at all. |

Some of y'all need to be educated, FOR REAL. First off, HIV leads to AIDS. Secondly, HIV can become latent, which means that it can be hidden. This can last between 2 weeks and 20 years. Could it be that Magic's HIV is latent? Possibly.
Now, I don't see what exactly he'd have to gain by lying & saying that he is HIV positive. It's pointless. Magic does have HIV not AIDS. Also, his money is buying him the best medical care that anybody can buy. Now why his son or his wife wasn't infected, I can't really explain that, but stuff like that happens. It's rare, but you can't discount this happening b/c it's rare. He didn't have his daughter b/c she's adopted. Bottom line: He's probably in the latency period, he's getting the best treatment for his money, and you don't see him when he does have has his bad days. |

Magic is only 49, he doesn't look that unbelievably great for a celebrity. Yes, he looks well, but if you know what to look for, it's quite clear he has taken some antiretroviral meds.
The HIV meds these days are not as damaging to the looks(lipoatrophy/lipodystrophy) as they used to be. Many people live long productive lives these days.
What makes you think he hasn't had any complications, you think EVERYTHING makes it to the tabloids? He probably hasn't has any major HIV-related or AIDS defining illnesses, but that doesn't mean it has been a walk in the park for him.
As a wealthy man, he is also able to afford the best health care money can buy and as an HIV activist, he knows what he must do to keep himself healthy. I doubt he is out drinking and drugging excessively like so many others.
If he does or has suffered any facial wasting or lipodystrophy, there are FDA approved facial fillers these days. Hardly anyone with a certain amount of income has to walk around with the "look of AIDS", these days.
I know many long-term(15+ years) HIV survivors and they have had their ups and downs, but look healthy.
Also many black people are what's known as late presenters, they don't find out their HIV status early on. Many find out when their immune systems have already been severely compromised, so, of course, they suffer from more complications.
This is the importance of testing, which is what Magic has always pushed for. It is very important to find out so medication can be started when needed and lifestyle changes can be made.
A good HIV specialist will also be aware of medical trials etc. So, it is possible that he was on some of the better meds long before they were widely available to the public.
Crack, meth, weed, other drugs and excessive drinking, are often associated with a high viral load, the inability to remember to take meds, heart disease, liver failure and other complications. I doubt Magic is hitting the pipe, guzzling bottles of Patron weekly, smoking endless blunts and forgetting to take his meds.
To the person in the medical field, I'm surprised you don't know all this already. Some training might be needed.
It is very important that we, especially as Black people educate ourselves. Less time on MTO and more time doing a bit of lifesaving research online might help.
The information is all out there, if you take the time to be informed. AIDSMEDS.COM, thebody.com and a few others have a wealth of information. Check them out, you might learn something and be able to help yourself, a friend, loved one or others in the community.

Also, as far as his wife and baby go, there are many serodiscordant(1 positive, 1 negative) couples in exactly the same position.
Even if his wife were positive, which she is not, 98% of babies born to HIV+ mothers are uninfected. The mothers are given treatment during pregnancy to stop the virus from being passed on to the baby. Many couples whether one partner is HIV+ or both are now having children.
My female best friend has been HIV+ for 18yrs, she is healthy and has a child. Has it been easy? No, but she looks after herself and has never had an AIDS-defining illness.
FYI - because we are all human and slip up every now and then, if you think you have put yourself at risk, eg had unprotected sex with someone who might be HIV+, get to the clinic within 72 hrs.
Most major cities now offer PEP(Post-Exposure Prophylaxis) treatment to reduce the chance of contracting HIV, after being exposed to it. It is not 100% guaranteed, but has been widely available for quite a while. It used to be offered to those in the medical profession etc, but has been available to the public for a while.
We need to take advantage of what's out there, HIV is very REAL.

I am not going to judge him for whether he faked it or not. He did say years ago that he has been taking the medication and that when tested there were no signs of a low cell count.
There have been rumors that he was faking it, that he bought the cure, etc...
Left Eye Lopes mentioned in her documentary before she passed there is a man in Honduras who is known for curing people with the virus known as HIV. Whether that is true I don't know either.
However I do believe the government started this disease to reduce the population and they also have the cure for it as well.

You can't contract AIDS from HIV if you have the cocktails of medicine that is available to fight it off, which of course costs a lot of money. A well known gospel singer named Dwayne Woods said he was cured from the HIV virus. So, again I say if you believe and have faith,God can heal you. Also, I believe that if you don't have the money or access to buy the cure then proper diet, medicine, and health choices can help you to live longer. God is the number one reason anyone can be sick and healed the next. You can't always go on just the doctor's words alone. There was a study done at Providence Hospital near where I live two floors were tested for 90 days. Both floors consisted of cancer patients and sickly people with miscellaneous illnesses. On one floor the people believed in God, gospel music was played daily throughout this floor, ministers came out to pray with the people, and all of the people recovered or was much better health wise. On the other floor the people were not believers, there was no music, no praying, and most of the people died instantly. So I believe it truly depends on the individual, their faith, and how you live your life. Anything is possible and with that being said I think Magic is healed of the HIV virus. |

And the man your refering to is Dr. Sebi (YusefX already said), the US told him he was crazy because he wouldn't give the details of his cure (and why should he, so the white man can profit from yet another black discovery), therefore they kicked him out of the US.
It's about money, there's no money in a cure. So keep the people sick and we'll just make sure they live a lil longer.

My sister was diagnosed with HIV 17 yrs ago and is still healthy and hasn't contracted AIDS. People get some education when it comes to this situation. I have know people to be cured of HIV. I don't feel anyone would make up such a horrific lie for sympathy. I think these talk show host need to report real news, and stop gossiping like little girls. |
