Today is one of the proudest days of my life and I have never been more proud of my people and our president elect, Senator Barack Obama. It’s a monumental accomplishment for our people because we have a leader that is in our likeness and he has provided hope for us and for our youth. What I love about this is that Senator Obama also unites the races and it’s vital that we not only have unity within our race but unity throughout the races.
I was also proud to see the supporters hugging and rejoicing. The faces were various shades of brown and an array of ethnicity spread throughout. It was beautiful to see everyone united for once cause. I have always been a proud black woman and pro-black for the most part. I love my people and I've always empathized with my race on the struggle and the injustices that we have faced from the very beginning. I know our history and see the present when some people choose not to. However; I have come to realize that in order for us to progress as a country we have to remain united.
Figuratively speaking, we have won the battle but the war has just begun. Today’s victory was just a small step in the right direction. “Yes WE can” means just that; Obama can not do this alone, we must collectively unite and strive to accomplish all of the plans that Obama has set forth. It’s vital that we help one another by being more involved in our families, communities, schools and our country. It’s important to continue to encourage our children and the neighborhood children. This means giving something whether its time, clothing or money. It’s just about being more loving, concerned and selfless. It started with us coming together to support this cause, lets not allow this journey, mission, milestone to be in vain.
Our children must remain optimistic and for once feel equal to their peers. We are not asking for African-Americans to have superior rights but to have equal rights. Let all children have the same education and opportunity and allow us the right to work for equal pay to commensurate with performance and PLEASE allow us the right to not be discriminated against based on color. We have had enough and we deserve the respect that we give.
I’d like to be able to teach my daughter a different way than I was taught. I would like her to grow up in a place that allows her more freedom than I had. Of course I know that this will take some time but I honestly feel that the more people that commit to a to this goal and at the very least try to be better people and help someone else to become a better person; the sooner we will reach this goal. This world has suffered so much damage but it’s not irreparable and if we believed enough to shock the masses by causing a landslide victory then I know that we have the power to BE BETTER and DO BETTER.
And in closing, the non-supporters that voted for McCain based on his beliefs and NOT just because you did not want to vote for a black man; you can also be included in making this world a better place. Being angry or upset that Obama was the victor will not make a better place for your children to live in. You may not agree with his beliefs but he is respectable and respectful and he is the new president. It would be in everyone’s best interest if we all were just tired of seeing this world in this state. We are all tired of fighting, and war, and racism, and various forms of discrimination and division.
It’s a good time to start getting along regardless of what we believe. What’s the harm in helping improve each others lives by improving our own lives? Let’s not feed into the ignorance and try to neutralize hostile situations when possible. There are so many options to creating a better you but the most important is to continually do your part in supporting OBAMA in his fight for change.
Thank you for taking the time out to read this letter and please remember if we go back to doing the things that we always did, we will only get the results that we always got. Do NOT let your vote fade into the hype, make your vote count throughout the entire term and throughout life. Words cannot express the way I felt last *** when I learned that Barack Obama was in fact our elected President. I will never forget that moment when I received the call from my sister telling me that he had won. I still get chills just writing about it. No more will we as colored people and when I say colored I mean African American, Hispanic, Asian, West Indians and all people of color; no longer will feel inferior to anyone. Hello My People – After watching the final debate the other ***, it dawned on me that Obama could actually win this thing. If that happens, there will be a lot of people (some of our co-workers included) who will be afraid that an Obama presidency will usher in the end of days. They’ll be watching us on November 5th (the day after the election) for signs of the end times.
To keep the peace and keep a lot of folks from getting nervous, I think we should develop a list of acceptable celebrations and behaviors we should probably avoid – at least for the first few days:
1. No crying, hugging or *** “Thank you Lord” – at least not in public 2 No high-fives – at least not unless the area is clear and there are no witnesses 3 No laughing at the McCain/Palin supporters 4 No calling in sick on November 5th. They’ll get nervous if too many of us don’t show up. 5 We’re allowed to give each other knowing winks or nods in passing. Just try to keep from grinning too hard. 6. No singing loudly, We’ve come this Far By Faith (it will be acceptable to hum softly) 7. No bringing of barbeque ribs or fried chicken for lunch in the company lunchroom for at least a week (no chittlings at all) (this may make us seem to ethnic)
8. No leaving kool-aid packages at the water fountain (this might be a sign that poor folks might be getting a break through)
9 Please no Moving on Up music (we are going to try to remain humble) 10. No doing the George Jefferson dance (unless you're in your office with the door closed) 11. Please try not to yell----BOOOO YAH! I just want to make sure we’re all on the same page when Obama brings this thing home on November 5th. We got both the Popular votes & Electoral votes (and by a good majority). We also got control of the House & Senate since 1994. Obama also swept the 5 main swing states (Florida, Virginia, Ohio, Penns, NC?). OBAMA MURDERED MC CAIN IN THE POLLS!!
Obama had the most percentage of new voters votes, African american votes-92%, and young votes-60%!! He broke records with his fundraising efforts and had so much advertisement (2:1 ratio compared to Mc Cain)
Obama also broke history by being the Democratic candidate to actually get Ohio’s & Virginia’s vote in 40 years!!
Obama also of course is the 1st Black President (well under this Constitution, lol) ...and most handsome, LOL.

You're right. I can't shake the fact that he didn't have the traditional black experience in america...Jim Crow...black father beat down from the civil rights struggle....descendent of slavery... but for that we get a black president that doesn't have a slave name.
Just imagine if the first black president was name Tom Jackson....or Jesse Jackson? It's Barack Hussein Obama...go figure! I like the thought of that deeply. I'll take it.
And he's black. He's black because his descendents are black. He chose a black woman to bare his children, moving deeper into the black race. I'll take that as well!

Although I agree with people who say that Obama is for all races, I must, however set the record straight on another issue. For those of you who argue that he isnt "BLACK" because of whatever reasons you are basing your opinion on, need to realize that although he is bi-racial, in the OLD AMERICA, he still wouldnt stand a chance. We all know that if you have a black parent, I dont care if the other one is powder, you are considered black, we are the dominant race, and you cannot argue that fact. There are plenty of people raised by a race other than their own, but the bottom line is GENETICS doesn't lie! Man there is not a word that can describe the way i feel right now. I just love this page in history because i really felt like my voice along with millions of other voices were actually heard this time. This is a man who indeed got the African American vote but who also managed to get the majority of the White voters too. That lets you know that we are in a different era and our ancestors did not work hard and lose their lives over nothing. We must never forget that this race was not won by one particular race of people but was won BY THE AMERICAN PEOPLE!

Now, you say Obama is African, right? Okay, I accept, as I'm sure Everyone on here does. But you say "He is not black." Now, please if someone could correct me if I'm wrong........ But I didn't know "black" was a race. And again, if "black" is race, and I've been living in lala land my whole life, someone correct me. I've only known "black people" to be either African American, or just plain African. It was to my understandding that black was... "A COLOR"

You can neither classify, nor declassify him as that because again, no where have I ever heard that BLACK is a an actual "RACE" of people. And if AS A SOCIETY, WE ARE GOING TO ACCEPT black as an actualy race, then when people say obama is black, then we would need to be just as naive as classify him as that based on him just having, if even very little, a little "black" in him.
