Today is one of the proudest days of my life and I have never been more proud of my people and our president elect, Senator Barack Obama. It’s a monumental accomplishment for our people because we have a leader that is in our likeness and he has provided hope for us and for our youth. What I love about this is that Senator Obama also unites the races and it’s vital that we not only have unity within our race but unity throughout the races.
I was also proud to see the supporters hugging and rejoicing. The faces were various shades of brown and an array of ethnicity spread throughout. It was beautiful to see everyone united for once cause. I have always been a proud black woman and pro-black for the most part. I love my people and I've always empathized with my race on the struggle and the injustices that we have faced from the very beginning. I know our history and see the present when some people choose not to. However; I have come to realize that in order for us to progress as a country we have to remain united.
Figuratively speaking, we have won the battle but the war has just begun. Today’s victory was just a small step in the right direction. “Yes WE can” means just that; Obama can not do this alone, we must collectively unite and strive to accomplish all of the plans that Obama has set forth. It’s vital that we help one another by being more involved in our families, communities, schools and our country. It’s important to continue to encourage our children and the neighborhood children. This means giving something whether its time, clothing or money. It’s just about being more loving, concerned and selfless. It started with us coming together to support this cause, lets not allow this journey, mission, milestone to be in vain.
Our children must remain optimistic and for once feel equal to their peers. We are not asking for African-Americans to have superior rights but to have equal rights. Let all children have the same education and opportunity and allow us the right to work for equal pay to commensurate with performance and PLEASE allow us the right to not be discriminated against based on color. We have had enough and we deserve the respect that we give.
I’d like to be able to teach my daughter a different way than I was taught. I would like her to grow up in a place that allows her more freedom than I had. Of course I know that this will take some time but I honestly feel that the more people that commit to a to this goal and at the very least try to be better people and help someone else to become a better person; the sooner we will reach this goal. This world has suffered so much damage but it’s not irreparable and if we believed enough to shock the masses by causing a landslide victory then I know that we have the power to BE BETTER and DO BETTER.
And in closing, the non-supporters that voted for McCain based on his beliefs and NOT just because you did not want to vote for a black man; you can also be included in making this world a better place. Being angry or upset that Obama was the victor will not make a better place for your children to live in. You may not agree with his beliefs but he is respectable and respectful and he is the new president. It would be in everyone’s best interest if we all were just tired of seeing this world in this state. We are all tired of fighting, and war, and racism, and various forms of discrimination and division.
It’s a good time to start getting along regardless of what we believe. What’s the harm in helping improve each others lives by improving our own lives? Let’s not feed into the ignorance and try to neutralize hostile situations when possible. There are so many options to creating a better you but the most important is to continually do your part in supporting OBAMA in his fight for change.

Do NOT let your vote fade into the hype, make your vote count throughout the entire term and throughout life. Words cannot express the way I felt last night when I learned that Barack Obama was in fact our elected President. I will never forget that moment when I received the call from my sister telling me that he had won. I still get chills just writing about it. No more will we as colored people and when I say colored I mean African American, Hispanic, Asian, West Indians and all people of color; no longer will feel inferior to anyone. I realized then that everything is possible and obtainable! Thank you GOD! Thank you for giving us this moment and this opportunity to make a difference in this world because we all won last night. Hello My People – After watching the final debate the other night, it dawned on me that Obama could actually win this thing. If that happens, there will be a lot of people (some of our co-workers included) who will be afraid that an Obama presidency will usher in the end of days. They’ll be watching us on November 5th (the day after the election) for signs of the end times.
To keep the peace and keep a lot of folks from getting nervous, I think we should develop a list of acceptable celebrations and behaviors we should probably avoid – at least for the first few days:
1. No crying, hugging or shouting “Thank you Lord” – at least not in public 2 No high-fives – at least not unless the area is clear and there are no witnesses 3 No laughing at the McCain/Palin supporters 4 No calling in sick on November 5th. They’ll get nervous if too many of us don’t show up. 5 We’re allowed to give each other knowing winks or nods in passing. Just try to keep from grinning too hard. 6. No singing loudly, We’ve come this Far By Faith (it will be acceptable to hum softly) 7. No bringing of barbeque ribs or fried chicken for lunch in the company lunchroom for at least a week (no chittlings at all) (this may make us seem to ethnic)
8. No leaving kool-aid packages at the water fountain (this might be a sign that poor folks might be getting a break through)
9 Please no Moving on Up music (we are going to try to remain humble) 10. No doing the George Jefferson dance (unless you're in your office with the door closed) 11. Please try not to yell----BOOOO YAH! I just want to make sure we’re all on the same page when Obama brings this thing home on November 5th. Obama had the most percentage of new voters votes, African american votes-92%, and young votes-60%!! He broke records with his fundraising efforts and had so much advertisement (2:1 ratio compared to Mc Cain)
Obama also broke history by being the Democratic candidate to actually get Ohio’s & Virginia’s vote in 40 years!!
Obama also of course is the 1st Black President (well under this Constitution, lol) ...and most handsome, LOL.

You're right. I can't shake the fact that he didn't have the traditional black experience in america...Jim Crow...black father beat down from the civil rights struggle....descendent of slavery... but for that we get a black president that doesn't have a slave name.

Although I agree with people who say that Obama is for all races, I must, however set the record straight on another issue. For those of you who argue that he isnt "BLACK" because of whatever reasons you are basing your opinion on, need to realize that although he is bi-racial, in the OLD AMERICA, he still wouldnt stand a chance. We all know that if you have a black parent, I dont care if the other one is powder, you are considered black, we are the dominant race, and you cannot argue that fact. I just love this page in history because i really felt like my voice along with millions of other voices were actually heard this time. This is a man who indeed got the African American vote but who also managed to get the majority of the White voters too. That lets you know that we are in a different era and our ancestors did not work hard and lose their lives over nothing. Friends,
Who among us is not at a loss for words? Tears pour out. Tears of joy. Tears of relief. A stunning, whopping landslide of hope in a time of deep despair.
In a nation that was founded on genocide and then built on the backs of slaves, it was an unexpected moment, shocking in its simplicity: Barack Obama, a good man, a black man, said he would bring change to Washington, and the majority of the country liked that idea. The racists were present throughout the campaign and in the voting booth. But they are no longer the majority, and we will see their flame of hate fizzle out in our lifetime.
There was another important "first" last night. Never before in our history has an avowed anti-war candidate been elected president during a time of war. I hope President-elect Obama remembers that as he considers expanding the war in Afghanistan. The faith we now have will be lost if he forgets the main issue on which he beat his fellow Dems in the primaries and then a great war hero in the general election: The people of America are tired of war. Sick and tired. And their voice was loud and clear yesterday.
It's been an inexcusable 44 years since a Democrat running for president has received even just 51% of the vote. That's because most Americans haven't really liked the Democrats. They see them as rarely having the guts to get the job done or stand up for the working people they say they support. Well, here's their chance. It has been handed to them, via the voting public, in the form of a man who is not a party hack, not a set-for-life Beltway bureaucrat. Will he now become one of them, or will he force them to be more like him? We pray for the latter.
But today we celebrate this triumph of decency over personal attack, of peace over war, of intelligence over a belief that Adam and Eve rode around on dinosaurs just 6,000 years ago. What will it be like to have a smart president? Science, banished for eight years, will return. Imagine supporting our country's greatest minds as they seek to cure illness, discover new forms of energy, and work to save the planet. I know, pinch me.
We may, just possibly, also see a time of refreshing openness, enlightenment and creativity. The arts and the artists will not be seen as the enemy. Perhaps art will be explored in order to discover the greater truths. When FDR was ushered in with his landslide in 1932, what followed was Frank Capra and Preston Sturgis, Woody Guthrie and John Steinbeck, Dorothea Lange and Orson Welles. All week long I have been inundated with media asking me, "gee, Mike, what will you do now that Bush is gone?" Are they kidding? What will it be like to work and create in an environment that nurtures and supports film and the arts, science and invention, and the freedom to be whatever you want to be? Watch a thousand flowers bloom! We've entered a new era, and if I could sum up our collective first thought of this new era, it is this: Anything Is Possible.
An African American has been elected President of the United States! Anything is possible! We can wrestle our economy out of the hands of the reckless rich and return it to the people. Anything is possible! Every citizen can be guaranteed health care. Anything is possible! We can stop melting the polar ice caps. Anything is possible! Those who have committed war crimes will be brought to justice. Anything is possible.
We really don't have much time. There is big work to do. But this is the week for all of us to revel in this great moment. Be humble about it. Do not treat the Republicans in your life the way they have treated you the past eight years. Show them the grace and goodness that Barack Obama exuded throughout the campaign. Though called every name in the book, he refused to lower himself to the gutter and sling the mud back. Can we follow his example? I know, it will be hard.
I want to thank everyone who gave of their time and resources to make this victory happen. It's been a long road, and huge damage has been done to this great country, not to mention to many of you who have lost your jobs, gone bankrupt from medical bills, or suffered through a loved one being shipped off to Iraq. We will now work to repair this damage, and it won't be easy.
But what a way to start! Barack Hussein Obama, the 44th President of the United States. Wow. Seriously, wow.

I've been suffocating for so long and finally got a breath of fresh air/ i've had no voice about my oppression, no way to show i cared/ I've been climbing and endless mountain with no realistic view of its peak/ Im a strong black woman with determination, but all society saw was someone weak/ Living in a land of opportunity? In a war wasting money, time and lives/ They could spend 10 billion a month on fighting, but cant afford to provide shelter for the homless at night/ A dismal view of the future in a country with no values or hope/ A promise of change gave me motivation and inspired me to be heard and to vote/ I remeber sheding a tear in disbelief/ As i witness my vote contribute to history/ I will never forget how i felt tonight/ Watching the union between black and white/ I now see a light when it was just so bleak/ Im now viewed as strong, no longer am i weak/ Because this great moment in history occured/ I have a dream that is no longer deferred/ I think GOD for opening our eyes and letting us see/ A black president is what Americans need/ So i say to all strangers, family and friends OBAMA 2008 YES WE CAN!

I was at work last night and I was so pumped. I am still shocked even today. It's just so unreal to have a black president but what we witness last night was truly amazing. Yes anything is possible people. I think I am more happy seeing every American came together for the 1st time celebrating. This is what Martin Luther King dreamed about. For every man, woman, boy and girl to stand together as one. Obama is a man who attract so much positive energy. I liked what one of the anchors said last night, Obama bring a sort of peacefulness when he's around. He has a great spirit and I am happy to congratulate him as the 1st African American president!!!

I can't even begin to describe the joy my heart feels. I admire this man and his family so much. I have never volunteered for anything, but I volunteered and donated to former Senator now President Elect Obama campaign. Not just because of the color of his skin, but because of his message. He actually understands what a real middle class citizen is, has a cool temmper, and a level head to resolve pressing matters. I am so happy to live right here right now. I am crying tears of joy!

My reason for not sharing in the joy and excitement of Barack Obama being elected the 44th President has nothing to do with race. That would be down right silly and insane seeing as how I am a Moorish American woman.
I voted for Obama in the primaries. The thought of having a man in the position leader of this country that is of Kenyan decent thrilled me. I thought he was intelligent (I still do) his ideas seemed insightful and I wanted to hear more of what he had to say. He beat Hillary Clinton and I was overjoyed.
Then as the months passed and I read more and heard more speeches, I began to question my original decision.
In the recent events suffered by this country, especially the Wall Street Bail Out WHICH OBAMA SUPPORTED, I knew he was not the right candidate for me.
The rich, (like Obama, his family, Bush, his family, etc) will get richer.
Most of the middle class are one pay check away from poverty.
The poor don’t stand a chance.
I know for a fact many people voting for him not because of the issues but because of the color of his skin.
I have said in other forums, Barack Obama is the president elect. When he takes office in 2009, I will respect that but I will not like it. I personally don't think much will change. It will be the same stuff going on that we have be experiencing for the last 8 years. The only difference is there will be a "black" man in the driver's seat and some how people have fooled themselves into believing that will soften the blow.
It will not provide “our people” with the level playing field you are expecting. When the shyt really hits the fan, Barack will be the blame as the captain of a sinking ship. In the mean time, programs that have been used to our advantage will become no more.

I'm so glad to be a part of history. Many of us have said, "I never thought I would see this in my lifetime." What really brings me to tears is the fact that young, black children have seen this and can set the highest goals for themselves. Parents can say, "You can be President" and mean it. This is something that has been said but only in different ways everywhere i have been today. The die hard McCain supporters or the people who feel that African Americans have no reason to be as excited as we are because Obama won the highest election in these here states only point out the fact that the black voters only voted for Obama because he was black. I have not ever once heard them say that they voted for McCain because of his political views. Again i will never say that Obama won this entire election because of black voters only. Please stop ok! Everyone has the right to be excited and congratulate the candidate that they voted for. I voted for Obama and i am glad that he is the President and will hide my feelings because you feel no one should really care about the politicians because basically they will always be politicians. I am excited because i for once in my life since i have been able to vote feel as though this candidate has the potential to bring some change into this country. Everyone know the world will not be changed on Jan 21st. No one is that stupid. This election and win as a whole was won because THE AMERICAN PEOPLE WANTED A CHANGE. The whole time Obama stressed change and this is what this is. Like he said in his speech we all as americans can celebrate this victory today but we also need to be prepared to continue to work towards this change. Him being elected into office is the first step towards this. I am so proud of Barack Obama and I was moved as well as he quoted Martin Luther King's speech.
I have been so completely moved and do not think I have ever been moved so much in my entire life when he was elected president, or by hearing someone speak!
I am so proud he will be running our country and making change that is so very much needed! He emodies through his pledge the American Dream and he gives voices to the middle class and minorities, one we have never sometimes felt we had!
I could only imagine how emotional and life changing it is to be African American on this day! I am happy for you!!

This is our moment to really be proud. We have come so far to let anyone take that from us. I was on mtv's website, windows live and cnn. Alot of people are on there saying its the saddest day in America. Also, there saying the votes came from uneducated, young black voters who didn't know anything about the issues. Although, a large portion of the votes came from young people (18-29), there were so many other people who contributed, such as black people 30 and up, whites, hispanics, asians, etc. Then, some people want to bring up that he is only half black so he doesn't represent a black man. He is 50% black, and that is enough. The Republicans stole the election from Democrats in 2000 and 2004, and it is long overdue. We couldn't have a better team than Obama and Biden. And Michelle is such a supportive wife.
Also, people need to realize President Obama will not be able to change things overnight. We are so deep in a hole and it will take time for changes to happen. People have to be realistic.
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and many others have died trying to make this moment happen. They would be so proud. I think its great that people were in his church last night, then walked to his grave. "We shall overcome someday." God bless 106 yr. old Ann Nixon Cooper for getting out and voting. She has been around for an entire century and never thought this could happen.
And for anyone saying people voted for him because he was black, look at the past. Obviously, it was the same for the previous Presidents, who were all white. Not only am I happy that he is a man of color, he was the better candidate. I am just upset that some things have not changed in the south. It was a historical night. To see the sea of ethnicities at the park was spectacular. Now that's what America is about.
As for some blacks changing bad behavior, it would be nice for some to emulate Obama as a role model husband, father & citizen. However, until their parents and their communities stand up, many black communities will continue to decay. There's nothing we can do about that.
I am still so overcome with emotion that I can't even verbalize the jubilation in my soul. I just know my body on the inside feels like its celebrating Christmas. It is so nice to see Black people HAPPY and celebrating and not angry about some injustice or pissed off because of something racial that was done or said. We are HAPPY, We are celebrating, We are amazed and We are definitely inspired. How incredible was it when they announced it. Even though we thought it might happen, even though we dreamed, even though we prayed, when it actually was..when they actually said it..Man you can't beat the feeling when they announced that Barack Obama was the President Elect...I am still just breaking out in tears when I think of Dr. King saying he saw that promised land and he couldn't get there with us but that he saw it...W.O.W. I'm just so proud..

Yes things will continue to get worse.. and one man cannot possibly correct matters that have been set in motion for longer than Bush has been in office. To say I am happy to just see a black man in office is a bit short changing myself. I am in hope of real change which man can't bring about. Its like going to the hospital because I have over 90% damage to my body.. and the doctors tell me they can only perhaps amend like .5%! Am I suppose to be happy when I am still in bad shape?
