We have a lot of republicans here, but thanks to the turnout of first time democratic voters, we finally gave them a run for their money. Although many of us were discouraged with the lies saying that machines were broken and we would have to come out tomorrow(today,which is a day late),computers were not pulling up our information as registered voters(which made a lot of us have to re-register) and jobs not allowing people to come in late or leave early to make the polls--WE STILL DID IT!!! 	***THIS IS A GREAT MESSAGE TO PASS ON*** TO THE OBAMA SUPPORTERS I WRITE THIS SCRIBE YES WE CAN AND YES WE DID Today is one of the proudest days of my life and I have never been more proud of my people and our president elect, Senator Barack Obama. It’s a monumental accomplishment for our people because we have a leader that is in our likeness and he has provided hope for us and for our youth. What I love about this is that Senator Obama also unites the races and it’s vital that we not only have unity within our race but unity throughout the races. I was also proud to see the supporters hugging and rejoicing. The faces were various shades of brown and an array of ethnicity spread throughout. It was beautiful to see everyone united for once cause. I have always been a proud black woman and pro-black for the most part. I love my people and I've always empathized with my race on the struggle and the injustices that we have faced from the very beginning. I know our history and see the present when some people choose not to. However; I have come to realize that in order for us to progress as a country we have to remain united. Figuratively speaking, we have won the battle but the war has just begun. Today’s victory was just a small step in the right direction. “Yes WE can” means just that; Obama can not do this alone, we must collectively unite and strive to accomplish all of the plans that Obama has set forth. It’s vital that we help one another by being more involved in our families, communities, schools and our country. It’s important to continue to encourage our children and the neighborhood children. This means giving something whether its time, clothing or money. It’s just about being more loving, concerned and selfless. It started with us coming together to support this cause, lets not allow this journey, mission, milestone to be in vain. Our children must remain optimistic and for once feel equal to their peers. We are not asking for African-Americans to have superior rights but to have equal rights. Let all children have the same education and opportunity and allow us the right to work for equal pay to commensurate with performance and PLEASE allow us the right to not be discriminated against based on color. We have had enough and we deserve the respect that we give. I’d like to be able to teach my daughter a different way than I was taught. I would like her to grow up in a place that allows her more freedom than I had. Of course I know that this will take some time but I honestly feel that the more people that commit to a to this goal and at the very least try to be better people and help someone else to become a better person; the sooner we will reach this goal. This world has suffered so much damage but it’s not irreparable and if we believed enough to shock the masses by causing a landslide victory then I know that we have the power to BE BETTER and DO BETTER. And in closing, the non-supporters that voted for McCain based on his beliefs and NOT just because you did not want to vote for a black man; you can also be included in making this world a better place. Being angry or upset that Obama was the victor will not make a better place for your children to live in. You may not agree with his beliefs but he is respectable and respectful and he is the new president. It would be in everyone’s best interest if we all were just tired of seeing this world in this state. We are all tired of fighting, and war, and racism, and various forms of discrimination and division. It’s a good time to start getting along regardless of what we believe. What’s the harm in helping improve each others lives by improving our own lives? Let’s not feed into the ignorance and try to neutralize hostile situations when possible. There are so many options to creating a better you but the most important is to continually do your part in supporting OBAMA in his fight for change. Last night, I had the privilege of watching my grandmother (my father's mother)go through a box of Kleenex as we watched the election returns together. All my life, I remember her telling me of all the struggles that Blacks had to endure just because the color of their skin. Her favorite irony, Dr. Charles Drew... though he created Blood Plasma, he was allowed to bleed to death after an auto accident; fore, he was Black and could not be treated at a nearby White Hospital. Instead he had to be transported to a Colored Hospital miles away and died enroute. Never again! I hope that all the individuals (famous or not... dead or living) who endured struggles are able to look upon this moment and say, Never Again! Finally, thank you Barack Obama for putting your neck on the line to pursue this endeavor. May God bless you and shield you from harm during your tenure!

If that happens, there will be a lot of people (some of our co-workers included) who will be afraid that an Obama presidency will usher in the end of days. They’ll be watching us on November 5th (the day after the election) for signs of the end times. To keep the peace and keep a lot of folks from getting nervous, I think we should develop a list of acceptable celebrations and behaviors we should probably avoid – at least for the first few days: 1. No crying, hugging or shouting “Thank you Lord” – at least not in public 2 No high-fives – at least not unless the area is clear and there are no witnesses 3 No laughing at the McCain/Palin supporters 4 No calling in sick on November 5th. They’ll get nervous if too many of us don’t show up. 5 We’re allowed to give each other knowing winks or nods in passing. Just try to keep from grinning too hard. 6. No singing loudly, We’ve come this Far By Faith (it will be acceptable to hum softly) 7. No bringing of barbeque ribs or fried chicken for lunch in the company lunchroom for at least a week (no chittlings at all) (this may make us seem to ethnic) 8. No leaving kool-aid packages at the water fountain (this might be a sign that poor folks might be getting a break through) 9 Please no Moving on Up music (we are going to try to remain humble) 10. 	you know, i think it's an embarassment that while some of you congratulate obama on his win, you are still feeding racism and taking jabs at other races. did you not watch the rallies in chicago, ny, etc? We also got control of the House & Senate since 1994. Obama also swept the 5 main swing states (Florida, Virginia, Ohio, Penns, NC?). OBAMA MURDERED MC CAIN IN THE POLLS!! Obama had the most percentage of new voters votes, African american votes-92%, and young votes-60%!! He broke records with his fundraising efforts and had so much advertisement (2:1 ratio compared to Mc Cain) Obama also broke history by being the Democratic candidate to actually get Ohio’s & Virginia’s vote in 40 years!! The racists were present throughout the campaign and in the voting booth. But they are no longer the majority, and we will see their flame of hate fizzle out in our lifetime. There was another important "first" last night. Never before in our history has an avowed anti-war candidate been elected president during a time of war. I hope President-elect Obama remembers that as he considers expanding the war in Afghanistan. The faith we now have will be lost if he forgets the main issue on which he beat his fellow Dems in the primaries and then a great war hero in the general election: The people of America are tired of war. Sick and tired. And their voice was loud and clear yesterday. It's been an inexcusable 44 years since a Democrat running for president has received even just 51% of the vote. That's because most Americans haven't really liked the Democrats. They see them as rarely having the guts to get the job done or stand up for the working people they say they support. Well, here's their chance. It has been handed to them, via the voting public, in the form of a man who is not a party hack, not a set-for-life Beltway bureaucrat. Will he now become one of them, or will he force them to be more like him? We pray for the latter. But today we celebrate this triumph of decency over personal attack, of peace over war, of intelligence over a belief that Adam and Eve rode around on dinosaurs just 6,000 years ago. What will it be like to have a smart president? Science, banished for eight years, will return. Imagine supporting our country's greatest minds as they seek to cure illness, discover new forms of energy, and work to save the planet. I know, pinch me. We may, just possibly, also see a time of refreshing openness, enlightenment and creativity. The arts and the artists will not be seen as the enemy. Perhaps art will be explored in order to discover the greater truths. When FDR was ushered in with his landslide in 1932, what followed was Frank Capra and Preston Sturgis, Woody Guthrie and John Steinbeck, Dorothea Lange and Orson Welles. All week long I have been inundated with media asking me, "gee, Mike, what will you do now that Bush is gone?" Are they kidding? What will it be like to work and create in an environment that nurtures and supports film and the arts, science and invention, and the freedom to be whatever you want to be? Watch a thousand flowers bloom! We've entered a new era, and if I could sum up our collective first thought of this new era, it is this: Anything Is Possible. An African American has been elected President of the United States! Anything is possible! We can wrestle our economy out of the hands of the reckless rich and return it to the people. Anything is possible! Every citizen can be guaranteed health care. Anything is possible! We can stop melting the polar ice caps. Anything is possible! Those who have committed war crimes will be brought to justice. Anything is possible. We really don't have much time. There is big work to do. But this is the week for all of us to revel in this great moment. Be humble about it. Do not treat the Republicans in your life the way they have treated you the past eight years. Show them the grace and goodness that Barack Obama exuded throughout the campaign. Though called every name in the book, he refused to lower himself to the gutter and sling the mud back. Can we follow his example? I know, it will be hard. I want to thank everyone who gave of their time and resources to make this victory happen. It's been a long road, and huge damage has been done to this great country, not to mention to many of you who have lost your jobs, gone bankrupt from medical bills, or suffered through a loved one being shipped off to Iraq. 	I am so proud of Barack Obama and I was moved as well as he quoted Martin Luther King's speech. I am so proud he will be running our country and making change that is so very much needed! He emodies through his pledge the American Dream and he gives voices to the middle class and minorities, one we have never sometimes felt we had! Our standing in the world has never been without some discord but the last eight years has severly severed our ties and caused more discontent towards our country. 	My reason for not sharing in the joy and excitement of Barack Obama being elected the 44th President has nothing to do with race. That would be down right silly and insane seeing as how I am a Moorish American woman. I voted for Obama in the primaries. The thought of having a man in the position leader of this country that is of Kenyan decent thrilled me. I thought he was intelligent (I still do) his ideas seemed insightful and I wanted to hear more of what he had to say. He beat Hillary Clinton and I was overjoyed. Then as the months passed and I read more and heard more speeches, I began to question my original decision. In the recent events suffered by this country, especially the Wall Street Bail Out WHICH OBAMA SUPPORTED, I knew he was not the right candidate for me. The rich, (like Obama, his family, Bush, his family, etc) will get richer. Most of the middle class are one pay check away from poverty. The poor don’t stand a chance. I know for a fact many people voting for him not because of the issues but because of the color of his skin. I have said in other forums, Barack Obama is the president elect. When he takes office in 2009, I will respect that but I will not like it. I personally don't think much will change. It will be the same stuff going on that we have be experiencing for the last 8 years. The only difference is there will be a "black" man in the driver's seat and some how people have fooled themselves into believing that will soften the blow. It will not provide “our people” with the level playing field you are expecting. When the shyt really hits the fan, Barack will be the blame as the captain of a sinking ship. In the mean time, programs that have been used to our advantage will become no more. I could go on but I realize that it is falling upon ignorant and deaf ears. Mark my words . . .

	this is a time to be very proud which i am of BARACK OBAMA my black president, we have really come a long way i still cant believe that we are at this point in time. history has definitely been made, BARACK OBAMA is a very courageous, smart, hopeful, and brave man, what more could you ask for in a president. i feel that it was Gods will to have Bush mess up this country so that Barack would have his chance, who knows what would of happened if we were not in this situation. i hope and see that this moment in time will bring us all together as one and stop being divided, the black community has got to come together, we are going to face obsticles and we have to be there for on another, pray for Barack and his family he is a wonderful man and i am so proud, proud to witness this defining moment proud to be black, walk with your head high for we are now officially a part of the American Dream.. 	I'm so glad to be a part of history. Many of us have said, "I never thought I would see this in my lifetime." What really brings me to tears is the fact that young, black children have seen this and can set the highest goals for themselves. Parents can say, "You can be President" and mean it. Let's not forget those who passed away before us and those that gave their lives FOR us, so that we can cherish this momentous event.
