There have been civilian casualties in this war, yes, but American soldiers aren't the ones setting off car bombs in towns and the like. It's kind of like Russia after the iron curtain fell. For all of communism's faults, it did provide some form of stability, and many of those who aren't fairing as well under capitalism also yearn for the days of old. We are worth fighting for and it's all about what agenda we choose to address. As hard as times are now, at least gas is not $16/gallon and we are not a Chinese Republic. America is just like you. You have good days and bad days. In the end, if you keep it all in perspective, you will be just fine. So will we.

They HAVE to find a way to justify being duped into joining the military only to be sent over there with the Iraqis and the U.S. government didn't even think enough of them to provide them with adequate body armor and other NECESSARY protection against harm. THEN they come back injured, go to rehabs and then go home to their families and have to get on WELFARE because that little paycheck isn't enough to pay the bills if you choose to live off base. Let's not forget the LACK of health benefits which limits them to going to the VA hospital -- which depending on where you live could be 50 miles away. They can keep supporting this nonsense if they want -- but the FACT IS: Bush is OVER. Republican rule is OVER. So now it's time for them to GET OVER IT or move back to whatever European country they decended from -- PRONTO!

However, your statment about those taht return from war is semi-correct but the reasoning behind it is not. The trauma comes from wishing that they could have done more and the depression comes from not still being with their units. Soldiers know what they are signing up for and they do it anyway. They hold up their right hand and take the oath knowing that there is a chance that they could be deployed and a chance that they could die. There are no false pretenses about that. So who is the hero? The person that does this anyway or the person that hides behind those that do while making vituperative comments?

	Ladygoon: Once again, thank you for your concern. As you can see from my previous post, I am gainful employed in the medical industry in the private sector as well. And while entitled to VA benefits from a broken back while serving, it just so happens that I carry private insurance and leave the VA benefits to those that are not as fortunate as I am. As far as a place to lay my head, don't worry your pretty little self about that either. The economy has not negatively affected all of us in the same way, if at all and being as such, I had my current house built for me and my family last year...and don't ahve to worry about a welfare bailout to pay my mortgage... It is nice to see that even though we disagree, you still care about what happens to the soldiers past, present and future.

	Daniebonner: No student loans, thank goodness. However, I defintiely don't look down upon those that take advantage of all that the military offers in the way of the Army College Fund and the G.I. Bill. The only problem is that those help put you through school, not forgive past expenses although there are some instances that it has been known to be written into a soldiers contract upon enlisting or re-uping.

	danie: The loan forgivness program is different than the tuition assistance provided for by the military. As I stated, I have no problem with those that join to take advantage of the educational benefits. At least they are trying to better themselves and know that either they wouldn't be able to qualify for student loans or otherwise afford tuition, or they don't want to have the threat of student loans hanging over their heads once they graduate. Either way, it is a smart solution to a dificult problem.

	danie: Also, all seriousness here and insults aside, I think that whatever your reason may be for considering the teaching profession you deserve commendation. It is an often thankless job and a way underpaid one as well. I have nothing but the utmost respect for teachers and those that are drawn to it. Being a teacher nowadays isn't like it used ot be wayyyyy back when. Now instead of worrying about teaching and giving your students the best education that you possible can, you have to worry about issues like budgets and cutbacks...to say nothing of the fact that teachers are expected to be diciplinarians as well, instead of parents doing the job themselves. Also, when an attempt is made to dicipline a student, the parents will complain if you do or if you don't. I wish you nothing but the best of luck with that in all sincerity.

My husband and I were the legal guardians of his sister for her last couple of years in high school and on her first day at a new school here, she came home and told me that the school was locked down after a student slashed a teacher with a knife. Also, my aunt taught elementary school for 30 years in Opa-Locka, Florida.
