I actually heard this a while back on one of the news stations. He's not the only one who was asked not to attend, I can't remember who the others were but I do remember hearing that the actress Susan Surrandon (probably mispelled her name. lol) may be one of them too. So I can understand their reasoning behind it. It took a lot for him to get there and a lot of people are still mad and looking for reasons to hate him. Anyone who gets mad or thinks it's "messed up" should really think of this thing as a whole. It's not saying he hates Jay Z, it's saying that they are trying to be careful and have come so far, they don't need anything sparking a fire the second he's inaugurated. I don’t believe that. If people were going to criticize Obama for working with Jay Z then he wouldn’t have been so active on the campaign trail and you would not be able to access the videos of Jay Z on the Obama web page. Not only did Jay Z promote Obama at his concerts prior to the 2008 Presidential election, he also made promotional appearances on his behalf. Just 2 days before the election, he was at Xavier University in Cincinnati, OH. If there was going to be any criticism then it would have come before the election at a time when criticizing Obama might have mattered. I think people have lost sight of the fact that not only is Jay Z a rapper but he is also an entrepreneur who is well respected in the business community. I think this may not be true. 1st, it does not make logical sense and 2nd, this is a free county. Anyone who has access to a computer knows that the Carters are heavy Obama supporters and if one or both of them wants to attend the inaugural ball or any of the other inauguration festivities then they have every right to do so. If one were to believe that is story is true then you would have to believe that Jamie Foxx was asked not to attend as well. His music lyrics and radio station are just as racy as Jay Z’s art. |

There are probably a whole "lot" of folks that are not invited to the digs in Washington on the 20th. That includes Lil Wayne and a TI and a whole plethora of rap artists. This is not the place for them. They have no message to send to the people and have nothing positive that they are preaching. They should not be there. If you think about it- there are few artists in the Rap/HipHop Culture would be appropriate. This is one reason we really need the music business to step up its game in signing new artists. For something as important as this - you need to have a repetoire which would be appropriate - even down to the partying. I can only see "old school" people who would be the most appropriate in this - pop artists, classic or jazz. It's a shame - but that's just the way it is. |
