: MediaTakeOut.com just got a hold of a video of Beyonce talking about how she wrote If I were A Boy again. For those of you who don’t know the song was written and performed by independent singing artist B.C. Jean.
But that’s not how Beyonce would have you believe it. Here’s what she had to say about writing the song:

First of all, Beyonce has said NUMBEROUS times that Neyo wrote Irreplaceable. She did add to the song but I have MANY dvds where she said Neyo wrote it.
Second, she didn't say in the video that she wrote "If I Were A Boy." She mentioned how she was inspired. Even if someone else did write it, Beyonce always adds her own to it. MTO is twisting things out of proportion. LOOK AT THE VIDEO FOR YOURSELF!!!

@Mixedbro- Single ladies IS A CATCHY tune! I enjoy listening to it. It doesn't mean I got to LOVE beyonce though. I enjoyed seeing Bush doing humanitarian work in Tanzania two years ago. She got up there and credited Queen Latifah for helping her learn how to carry a tune. She said if it wasn't for the real talent of queen latifah, she still wouldn't be able to carry a note! That's what REAL WOMEN do. THEY give credit to others when it ain't theirs to credit. THEY WOMAN and SECURE enough to do that.. Renee didn't have to do that. She did write a sentence or two, but Ne Yo didn't write irreplaceable by his self it was him, Beyonce, Erik Tor, E. Lind and Mikkle S. Erisen. Maybe Ne Yo wrote majority but he didn't write the whole song on his own, so does that put him in the same catergory as Beyonce? But I'll admit, Bey shouldn't have said she wrote that song herself, that was a very selfish move, but hey she not prefect, but she did acknowledge him and corrected her mistake.

@Lexi25- I think Beyonce may take pride in being African-American. We have to remember that she has no say as far as marketability and what her people think would make her look more attractive to the public. Beyonce is just a living, breathing mannequin who is being molded by the executives of her record label that's all. Unfortunately she is not a strong woman as she allows them to dress her and do her as they please. Strong women are those who don't bow down to their labels such as Eryka Badu, Mary J Blige, India.Ire, Jill Scott, Lauryn Hill, Tracy Chapman, Bjork, Macy Grey etc, etc... The disadvantage to standing up for your own freedoms could come as a cost. These stars definitely make less money than beyonce and are not as commercial as her. However, they got their standards and dignity in tack. I'm sure they are more at peace than someone like beyonce. I'm also sure they don't have too many frienemies as well.. There is always a choice in the music/movie industry.. The choice is you stick to your principles but you may take a huge pay cut OR you do what we say when we say (loss of personality/soul) and stand to gain millions!

@ Nik0- I know. Po' thang. Just look at her body language in that interview. I cringed when I saw it because it seems she's obviously on some antidepressants. Now I don't have any proof, but she looks sad and appears distant. She doesn't strike me as a happy person. Again I could be wrong, but she seems so spaced out lately. Beyonce never said outright that she wrote the song in this video. She probably was focusing on what the inspiration of the song was. That's really what she was responding to. I remember before the song was released it was a press release that it was a Toby Gad song. So BC Jean sung the demo, it wasn't a song that she was going to release on an album. Toby sold the song to Beyonce. Which we all know is common practice for singers to buy demos. If Beyonce was trying to steal the song, in her CD jacket it wouldn't have that Toby Gad and BC Jean wrote the song. Beyonce's name doesn't appear in the credit for the song. You all should be questioning this BC Jean to find out why she's taking sole credit for the song when Toby Gad name is also on the song. This heifer was trying to use Beyonce's name to get herself a record deal acting like Beyonce stole her song when she was only singing on the demo, and Beyonce paid for the rights to the song.

I saw a press release a month before the song came out, and it said that it was a Toby Gad song. So Beyonce made it very clear from the start that she didn't write the song. Beyonce purchased the song from Toby Gad. Toby Gad and BC Jean wrote the song, and BC Jean sung on the demo. Now, BC Jean is lying like it was supposed to be her song, even though the rights were sold to Beyonce. She's lying on Beyonce, but why she's not saying that Toby Gad stole her song. The CD jacket clearly indicates who is credited with the song.

I really hate the way Beyonce talks. It's like she can't get her words out properly or that her vocabulary is extremely limited. On the upside, the interview was the best i've seen her in. She seemed to have had energy, came across with personality (something i've always thought she lacked) Kudos to the interviewer. However, Beyonce loves to be condescending to larger women...she likes them because she doesn't feel threatened by them.
In the songwriting game - anyone who puts a part, line, verse, hiccup on the song has rights to say "they wrote". They don't have to include all the other writers. The truth is in the BMI, ASCAP, SESAC records. If anyone wants to know who wrote a song - just contact these writing organizations and they will tell you. When it comes down to the money part - the people who wrote decide who gets what percentage.
When I was with Motown and Fantasy Records, if you wrote a song, a contract was established. You signed for the part of the writing you were attributed. For example, if you wrote a verse, that might incorporate 15%. That's what you get paid on based on album sales.
If she contributed any part to the writing, she is a writer of the song.
@ AsiaA- I agree with your assessment. Some of you also mentioned the sadness in her eyes. I see it too. She seems lost. defeated. totured. Oh well. That's the price. First of all, Beyonce did not take credit for this song in this interview. In the beginning, she tried to slap her name as a songwriter until BC put her song out (via Internet) and had her lawyers to contact Beyonce's people. The fact of the matter is it was wrong when Elvis and other white artists stole from black blues artists. Its equally wrong for Beyonce and other artists to take credit for songs/styles.
I will say this: Beyonce better watch out because karma is nothing to play with....look at what happened to Elvis.
And this bitch won a writers guild award? There is only one song that she wrote that can't be debated on and thats bootylicious. Which is a dumb song so somebody needs to take it away from her. The story says she stole "Smash Into You" from another artist. It was originally written for this other guys album and Beyonce basically changed the title and jacked the lyrics. I think She made a mistake with this one, because it is clear on the album who the credit goes to on this song.
For the record with [Irreplaceable], Neyo wrote the song to be a country song and from a male's perspective. When Beyonce was given the demo, She asked for changes in the track, including the addition of drums, vocal arrangements, and singing the song in a higher note than the demo. This is why she gained credit.

Wow! Beyonce sparks violence on MTO. First, I think the interviewer was great! She is extremely likable! Second, Beyonce did not say she wrote the song. She talked about what inspired her. I haven't heard anything else about who did or didn't write it but I did hear the original (maybe) and it is really good. Finally, it is really not that serious. When someone is asked what their inspiration for something was, they're typically being asked about something they "created". Interesting that you attempted to go on a tyraid about people "not listening before they spoke" when maybe YOU should have been EDUCATED on the English language before you spoke. Because she spoke something about it and edited footage of it before the question? Honey all that was done AFTER the interview. You know how editing works....you do an interview then you add footage and voiceovers afterward. This is how people can always edit something someone said to make it twisted and right now everyone who is saying Beyonce lied about writing that song is twisted. She never once mentioned that song in the interview and neither did the British lady so you are simply speculating. She was talking about her writing in general. Are you gonna say she never wrote anything on that album either? By the way she was on top since Destiny's Child...you remember that group - the highest selling female group in history? You do recall that they were around long before 2003 right? Oh, and as for Jay-Z being on top, I believe Forbes published recently that he, along with his wife (we know who that is) made 162 million for 2008? That is close to double that of the second placed couple Will and Jada. And Jay makes the most of the money in the family. These artist are stealing alot from the MySpace Artist. The famous artists (Bey) and more, the Labels do nothing but troll the myspace looking for and stealing or asking to buy the song for pennies. The bottom line....Beyonce is not that great of a writer, yeah she did survivor, so what. The rest of the records she claimed to have written she didn't. She get her hands on ther peoples recordings, change a word or two and now she gets writing credit for writing the song. Let's not forget that slow jam she sang in DreamGirls, Listen. She tried that tactic with those writers and lost the battle, because they are established writers and been around writing music when Bey was learning to dance with her choreographer. That is when the oscar committee came up with the rule that "partial contributors" would not be awarded nor considered. Because the original writers had filed a complainant with the Oscar committee (they never spoke about it,but they did) They won the award. This rule is one the industry need to adopt. if you don't contribute an original 8 - 16 bars, original! no changing a word in the bars aready written, original!, your name is not on the writing credits. Shyt if you can write then an orignal 8-16 bars shouldn't be a problem.
Oh and for all who are hollering "She asked her where she got the inspiration from" That is not what Bey heard. The interviewer should have asked her "What insprired her (to do this song)" because that is the question Beyonce heard and answered. So technically She got the inspriration from listening to BC jeans recording, which inspired her to do it because of past relationships.
She needs to pay attention to the questions that are posed to her.
