This is common practice and not a matter of disrespect from MTO or any other news outlet -- just remember all of the 911 calls were heared during the 9-11 attacks. If it is a high profile case the media usually requests the tapes so they can be aired. Attorney's also request tapes to gather additional information that may assist their case. Also, people review these tapes to learn from them. Was the 911 operater following procedure, were they rude, etc. We can all learn from hearing the Donda West tape. Mainly that we should all learn CPR, but most importantly not to panic and listen to what the operator is telling you. |

Third, the call lasted 8 minutes? Hmm, that's too long for an ambulance. I found my grandfather dead in his home, and when I called the paramedics, they were there before I got off the phone with the operator. I would say a total of 5 minutes. And no, this was not a ritzy area. Seeing who Donda West was, I'm sure she didn't live in the projects where police and paramedics have been known to neglect. So I don't get why it took THAT long. |

Give the lady a break. She was nervous and obviously in a panic. I'm pretty sure that she beats herself up everyday considering that she could've done something better, lets not add to her grief. However, I do find it odd that nobody said anything about how long it took for the paramedics to arrive. That was a very long eight minutes. |

As far as im concerned, this woman committed suicide. Having MAJOR surgery by a surgeon who is not credited, along side with health problems, old age and no after care = DEATH. I make a fraction of what she makes and receive nothing but top notch medical care for something as small as a paper cut. This should go as a lesson to ignorant people who feel that they are above and beyond everyone else...YOU ARE NOT INVINCIBLE. I hesitated before listening to the 911 tape I think the reason ppl make such a big deal about listening to the tape is b/c whether you want to admit it or not its a reminder how we are all vulnerable and will die some day and not matter what death is certain. Nobody made such a big deal about the Nicole Simpson tape when OJ was kicking in the door. I think its more that we all feel vulnerable and deep down we know it could ourselves in that same situation surgery or not. Instead of assigning blame and getting angry we need to learn a lesson from this which is to take care of ourselves and each other. Teach yourself and family and friends what to do in emergency situations be better prepared learn from this embrace it and know that we are all vulnerable.... |

@rcnorrthd: I agree. I didn't listen to this version but heard parts of it on TV. Emotions run high when people are scared and everybody with Ms. West was scared. I was thinking the same thing, perhaps those 8 mins until the ambulance arrived, had someone known or been able to do CPR, she may have been spared. It takes 5-6 mins without oxygen to the brain and you're gone. But hindsight is 20/20 and maybe others can learn when an emergency happens.
I saw some emergency workers trying to save a child once and the mother was on the EMT's back due to her high emotions. We've got to learn how to back off so lives can be saved. The child died too.
As for people being upset about this, every 911 tape is public record and this one has been played on just about every news show. I saw it on the Today show. |

I went to youtube and heard the rest of the phone call. I think something else happened in that house, something fishy. The lady that called 911 she was being evasive like she was hiding something. Donda was breathing very heavy in one part of the call then I heard a door close then no breathing. Apparently the caller walked out of the room where Donda was panting to later tell the 911 dispatcher that the victim wasnt breathing. I listened to the call several times and i hear a lot of different strange fishy things going on, and it wasnt becuase she was panicking.

Such a shame. It took a whole 5 minutes and 30 seconds for them to settle down and listen to the dispatcher. Even if West had survived there would have been irreversible brain damage as a result of the lack of oxygen. Everyone was panicking and not listening. My heart goes out to this family. |

I haven't listened to the tape at all. Or the tape that her hairdresser put out of her calling her answering machine. I can't. I feel like its so disrespectful to her and the privacy of her family.
