I would like to say to the guy esotericdredz, Black/coloured women do not complain about black/coloured men going out with other races of women because they are use to it. Heck they now expect it. They may say expected but most always comment on how cute the kids are or they make a nice couple. Look at Seal and Heidi Klum, no women said anything about that in a bad light. I went on a website where the black lady was dating an asian guy and black men wrote in so many nasty disgusting comments it was sickening. They even said it was gross that the man wanted a black woman. Admitting self-hatred is hard but that is the only way you can even hope to get better. I can not understand any of this comments even why the heck they won't take care of their kids when they are black...the world thinks his familiy skills is next to none because of this so stop complaining and learn to be a man. Before ya'll jump on me, this is just my OPINION to everyone who questions why black women give so much heat to black men dating outside their race but not to black women when they do the same:
I think the reason most black women take issue with black men dating outside their race is b/c it's been going on for sooooo long. Some black men even go through the trouble of downing black women in the process just to justify why he's dating an "other". I.E...black women have too much attitude, no class, ghetto, etc.
Also, for so long...a black man will get a little money in his pocket, and instead of helping bring a sista up, he'll run out the first chance he gets and picks up a white trophy wife b/c he sees them as being more classy and his ticket into being accepted. Just look at the number of black male celebs and athletes out here who are married to an "other". I can't even think of how many (there's some, but not many) famous black women are married to one themselves.
It's just baffeling how many black men are steady looking for something "exotic" or different, not out of curiosity, but b/c he perceives it as being better. I think that's what black women have a problem with.
When it's a black woman dating outside her race, she doesn't catch as much heat from other black women b/c it's like, "dang...someone out there still wants us." There was an episode of Tyra where she had a variety of 8 men (2 each of black, white, hispanic, and asian) who were sharing their views about 4 women of different races (black, hispanic, white, and asian) regarding sex, dating, and relationships. There was 1 part in the show where the men were asked to stand behind their fantasy woman...(((NO ONE))) stood behind the beautiful black sista...NOT EVEN THE 2 BLACK MEN WHO WERE A PART OF THE GROUP!!!!! 1 black stood behind the white woman and the other was behind the hispanic. Then when asked to stand behind the woman they would married, 1 of the black men came and stood behind the black woman. None of the other races saw the black woman as a fantasy or as someone they would married...and she was VERY beautiful. And that's the feeling most black women get when they see a black man outside their race. So when an “other” steps to us, it’s like…“Ok…we’re still wanted.”
I'm not saying that all black men are like that nor am I bashing them...just giving my opinion of why I think it's so one-sided sometimes when it comes to interracial dating. I'm all for interracial dating and would do it myself if I found someone I was attracted to, b/c you never know what you could be missing out on when you discriminate. But I take issue when people down their own or view them as “less than” to justify why they're dating outside their race. |

@ T007009, Either you haven't been coming to this site for long or you haven't been paying attention. That Seal/Heidi thread was the exception to the rule....MTO purposely posts black male/other race couples just to incite nasty comments.....Like the Taye Diggs post where they stated "Why did he marry her?" There is nothing but black man bashing around here, and its done by the same people who turn around and praise black women for doing the same thing.
My issue is NOT with anyone who chooses to date interracially. If the one for you is of another race, then do you and be happy. My issue is with those who feel the need to throw their own under the bus to justify their choice. Look at these comments.....Brutally Honest broke it down....Why can't a sista date a white man without turning around and dogging brothers out in the process? Why does there always have to be some comment about black men being no good anyway or unavailable? THAT my friend, is self hate...disrespecting your own to justify going elsewhere....And you see women around here doing it much more than men.

I feel where you are coming from....I think the issues with interracial dating are overplayed in the media as a way to divide us further....For all the heated debate, well over 90% of black men and women marry within the race. People may date or kick it with other races but we still overwhelmingly marry each other. This is even true of athletes and celebrities...The media always pushes the interracial couples into the spotlight but if you look across sports leagues and across the board, most black men and women are married in the race. I think we have to be careful not to unnecessarily divide over something like this.
When someone dates outside their race, yet remains respectful and true to his heritage, then I have no issue at all with it. |
