LOL..Sara Baartman is rolling in her grave at some of these sentiments...
First, the overall point is that a black woman does not need to have a ginormous booty to be attractive or sexy....I know that is hard to process because the images perpetuated in this society, especially in out music and entertainment constantly push the notion that black women are only attractive because of their butts, and are *** objects because of it, but sorry, it isnt true....A black woman can be petite, or proportionate, or of other builds and still be sexy, contrary to what MTO wants to assert here.
And if society has pulled any okey-doke over on black folks, its the notion that being overweight...or "thick" as it has been coined... is sexy and glamorous....And pushing this notion at a time when obesity related health hazards are disproportionately hurting our women and our community. In far too many ***, thick at a young age ends up, disproportionately (because I know some of y'all are gonna come with exceptions to the rule) unhealthy and sick before middle age. Diabetes, heart disease, hypertension, strokes, gout, sleep apnea, and even a higher chance at certain types of cancer. All side effects of being overweight as people age.
So save the cultural angle...Heart disease is the #1 killer of black women and recent studies show that over 70% of black women are overweight based on BMI. If you are a person who purports to care about the community, then those numbers should shock. We need to do better, and doing better isn't glamorizing women like Buffy who, if you look at her from a BMI standpoint is overweight. Now I know there are some women (Serena for example) who have the big *** and are in great shape. Cool. But a lot of others (Tik from Flavor of Love 3) are FAT.
I am far from bashing or hating on black women....I am hating on the notion of black women being in an unhealthy state that causes us to lose our mothers, wives, sisters, etc. prematurely is somehow okay.
