When she was being interviewed by the other girls of the house she told them she was white. But the laste name Cabrera is a latino last name, unless she is like Jessica Alba and wants to associate w/ whites.

Some of you people are really ignorant. Since when does a white girl have a name like Candace Cabrera. Cabrera is a latino last name. Just because she's light skin and has colored eyes doesn't mean she's white. Obviously some of you have never been past your own neighborhood or you would know this. I know white, black, and mixed hispanic people. some hispanics are just European invaders, others are indigenous Indians (many Mexicans I see) and others are result of black slaves. So she can still be a WHITE LATINA. That don't mean nothing, and she tans so much that's why she doesn't look white, she said herself she a white girl. Hispanic is NOT a race, you can be a black puerto rican, white puerto rican, mixed PR. It'just a nationality.

I for one do NOT consider myself a WHITE hispanic. People ask me if Im white because Im very light and i tell them no I am hispanic. Many of my lighter skinned friends of hispanic heritage dont consider themselves WHITE either. Its almost insulting.
And for the record we dont consider ourselves Black either.
Alot of hispanics get insulted when we are told we are not a race. As u said we are mainly Amerindian people who have been mixed with white and Black and in between but when he say Latino ( a big portion of us esp here in NY) we are referring to that Amer-Indian heritage mixed down the lines. They just called us Hispanic cuz we mainly speak Spanish or Latino cuz our languages are derived from Latin (Spanish/Portugese)
And right or wrong a majority if not all my Latino friends feel the same way whether they are Dominican, Puerto Rican, etc. Only is they are like Second generation where their parents really truly are caucasian or black 90% or more. (Cuz I doubt anyone is 100% anymore)

Depending on the combination you could be different things ..but to say some get 'offended' when called white or Black is crap especially when they are white or Black MOSTLY (not Amer Indian) and just speak spanish.

I feel ya. However, IN Amerikkka as far as the government run prison system is concerned. To hide the disproportionate number of African American males that make up the penal system... Latinos are and will be counted as white! Some things have changed in the census but that tidbit has not.

Both said they dont consider themselves NEITHER. They are Hispanic. I posed it to my PR, Columbian and Ecuadorian and Honduran (which I am partly-the other Puerto Rican) friends as well, All said NEITHER

My mother is Puerto Rican and my dad is from Honduras and back in the day that was unheard of cuz alot of latin countries thought PR thought they were the shyt cuz of their US citizenship.
Now adays the ones brought up here and together, we are thick like glue. Just like with my Black friends. We all grew up, came up and stay up together and we are extremly loving of each other. It basically boils down to lack of unity and ignorance

I live in NYC as well, Manhattan to be precise, the reason I was saying that is because I guess it all really depends on which country you're referring too. Because most of the Panamanians I know for example, all look black, and they said the reason why is because during slavery some of the African slaves were brought places to like Panama, and Honduras and as a result they speak spanish. Some of my hondurian/Panamanian friends call themselves black but some don't. My Experiences with Puerto Ricans, Dominicans, etc, is somewhat different. But like I said I guess it all depends on where you are talking about because when I met an Argentinian gentlemen once I thought he was white until I heard his accent and he told me where he was from, I'm not sure if he would consider himself to be white or not I never asked him. I get what you're saying though, Someone like Jennifer Lopez of course would not be consider black or white she has mixed ancestry. I think that is what most people think of when they think of a Puerto Rican, Dominican, or Cuban person, they might picture someone who looks like J-lo or Rosie Perez. I was reffering to the ones who are something like Cameron Diaz (even though she's only half) or someone who looks like Roberto Clemente, people might look at them and automacially label them as not hispanic but black or white. Maybe you're right about this chick here from FOL not being entirely white though, come to think of it no one is really as pure as they may think anyways lol.
