With the more lies he pacifies my adolescent cries-hoping and praying my heavy tears dry my foolish eyes-wishing on that star he had more time for me- walking with my book bag tucked under my arms saying 'this selfish life didn't provide me with a daddy!'Seeing friends with 2 parent homes while we weren't important pops left moms all alone-the street came first leaving mom to make sure my sister and I could eat- never knowing what it's like to a have a real family too afraid to grow up because step-pops was looking at me- trying to hide and tuck-body growing at a rapid pace walking in the house from school dude look like a Cheshire Cat look at the grin on dudes face-hooked up with a goon that would soon put worry on his face-taking shots and blazing to make some of this pain go away- I had to light one before I got my diploma that's why I was late-I knew the real world was full of sharks and snakes-breaking up and making up with this [EXPLETIVE] I know I've had at least 50 first dates-he saw me with another and realized he didn't want to be replaced-Surrounding myself with him to take some of the b.s. off my mind so I learned a little about hustling watching him on his grind-All things came too natural to me maybe because it wasn't a mystery that my pops took me to the house he would re-up at until I was 9- How to cook, cut, bag ,and flush so them boys won't catch me is something that wasn't a stranger to me- don't let the smile and these glasses fool you because pain is what I hide underneath- I let my feelings and voice come out in my writing- I use to get all happy and jump for joy when I got good news, but now I say, 'whatever I'll jump whenever it comes through!' never met Jay-Z and never knew Big, but I'm trying to be on top before I leave this bi**h- Looking back and thinking about some of the mess I've seen in my life I can't believe the dude I bared kids for made me his wife- in a black community you know how rare that is?- but I made a guarantee that I wouldn't be another statistic- a baby with this one, a baby with that one, having 3 different baby daddies before I was 21- life is a trip never know the cards you will be giving to deal with- I remember like yesterday when I almost folded the cards I was given to play with- I just remember waking up and the nurse saying you can't fall asleep why would you do this do you have a death wish? Nah just tired of this bullsh*t- Not from the suburbs or at its worst Compton, but I've been put in situations were no matter the decision it would complicate them- now my adolescent tears have turned into an adult river praying my kids make better decisions so their chose won't complicate them- take it from me life is a funny thing- Now I can tuck my kids in at night, read them a book, and drop a few jewels about the game..... |
