My mom had my brother at 15 and then my other brother at 19 at 23 she had twins but missed carry and before her 25 birthday she had me. My mom always thought she was too young to be a mother of 3. "Thank Goodness she met my dad and he help not only raising me but my brothers as his very own." My mother became a grandmother the same age your sister is now. So if your 17 year old niece decides she wants to have a baby don't you think your sister is too young to be a grandmother? I've been an Aunt since I was 8 years old, So having been around babies mostly my whole life and even helping raise one of my nephews I think it would be pretty stupid of me to say that I'm ready to have children just because I've had some experience with my nieces and nephews. Hey, you know what? Motherhood is a blessing! Our ancestors embarked on adulthood by their mid to late teens, many of them were wed by that time as well. May indigenous tribal people of today still marry their young girls off in their teens...
In modern times, our great grandparents also started families early by marriage. As anyone with family from the Southern US States at what age their great, great-great, and great-great grand parents married or starting having children. Many of our notable people in history, the great contributors to society, were born to teen mothers (no matter their race), or descended from a teen mother. At some point in our family trees there has been a teen mother. So, there is nothing wrong with becoming a mother at 16. Life is life!
The only thing I hate to see is when a much older person preys on the young and innocent.
I can't get over why in current times people are saying is such a sin, such a bad thing. The first Christians were having children at age 16, and just like back then there are teens who can hold their own be it because they have to or they want to.
There are 50 year old women walking around without children, some of them were declared barren. You know, just because you wait to have children doesn't mean that you will be able to, or that you will be a good mother. Teen mothers make good mothers, too! You can wait to find that prince charming that will marry you, but you can still end up a single mother; or he could still play you out with all his promises and dump you before he commits.

There's a reason why many people who have children at a young age often find themselves in a constant struggle. When you are young, you haven't given yourself an opportunity to establish a career that will yield you financial stability and the situation becomes even more dire when you aren't married because you don't have anyone around to share responsibilities. Why would anyone PURPOSELY want that type of life, when they know the struggles that come along with it? Like your sister, mine too became a teen mother at 16, but has gone on to have a successful career as a Program Analyst for the federal government. I'll be honest, though, she spent a good amount of her career in low level adminstrative positions, but I admire her for never giving up and falling into a "baby mama" mentality. The point I'm trying to make is that just because our sisters we're able to defy theodds, still does not change the statistics. Hell, a lot of us can see that with our own eyes and by looking to our own family members and friends. |

-----For a woman who has always been mature and family oriented, the single party life gets old and boring really fast.
I mean to each his own. The ones who want to keep partying and like the fast easygoing life, good, continue. But some women want to settle down and start a family younger.(I'm not condoning teen pregnancy esp when your still trying to graduate HS, but I mean after the age of 18) And who's to say that getting married guarantees you wont be a single mother? LOL I know many women who are proof that its not a guarantee. I aslo know women who have had kids in their late 20's early 30's who arent being responsible parents like they should be. They like to drink or spend their time focusing on other things than nuturing their children. Women who end up getting divorced and want to start their lives over again and then ignore their children cuz the're to busy "starting over". It's all basically where your mind and your maturity level is at. If you really want to be a mother and start a family and have a good foundation, it doesnt matter if your 19 or 39. |

I dont condone teen pregnancy but I am not going to knock anyone who has a child young. People make mistakes. My mom had me when she was 17 and she is educated and successful.
I think its a personal choice. I am 28 and I'm an anesthesiologist. I went straight to college and medical school after high school so I didnt have the time to take care of a baby. I also partied traveled and had the time of my life. Now I can have a child and be able to handle it emotionally and financially with or without a husband, because getting married is no guarantee that he is going to take care of his child.
I wish Paris well and hope that he and the baby come through this healty and as long as she coninues to pursue her dreams and seek kowledge, then there is absolutely nothing wrong with her being a moter at this age. |
