: MILWAUKEE - (AP) A high-end clothing store in Brookfield, Wisconsin, is suing Oprah Winfrey's mother for failing to pay her bill.
The civil complaint says Vernita Lee of Milwaukee owed Valentina nearly $156,000 for purchases and interest as of July 1st and has failed to make the monthly minimum payment of $2,000.
Store attorney Joseph Niebler Sr. says his client tried to resolve the matter with Lee before filing the lawsuit in Waukesha County Circuit Court.
The lawsuit says Lee told store officials she doesn't think she owes the money. Reached by telephone, Lee declined to comment on the lawsuit.
Valentina co-owner Tony Chirchirillo says a $150,000 bill isn't unusual for a client with a full calendar of social events.
A nonbinding mediation session is set for September 16th.
The parent/child relationship is a blessing and a curse for some. There are parents who degrade, beat, and many times neglect you. If you can't get forgive that, you're in the wrong because they're your "parent". As if having sex, getting off, and conceiving gives you carte blanche to do anything to your seed. Take Keisha Cole's momma. She wasn't her mother, but let Keisha not help her out and she's is the "ingrate". You can't win for losing. Oprahs parents failed to protect her from her child abuse and did not do right by her after they found out about it. Uncle was still allowed at family functions. Then her daddy had the nerve to ask Oprah did she do something to entice the uncle. Her "parents" are writing tell-alls, but let Oprah say fugg 'em, she's the "wrong" one. That parent/child relationship man...it's a peculiar one...
Are these people serious!!! what the hell, pay for your own clothes. What in the hell did she get 200,000 dollars worth of clothes for and know she ain't had the money to pay for it Every week she go shopping she might as well did tell them put that on Oprah's tab cause she is too bold how could you sue me for my own money!!
LuckyS Flag post Conscious1 i agree with you 100% this is what i am going through with my parents ======================================= Society isn't trying to hear that you won't forgive. They're your "parents". In the end, nothing (about how they've harmed the child) matters, just that technicality.
Concious1 - I so agree with you. The sad thing is, I think this is the greatest problem with our youth these days - the parents, not the music, tv, etc. People tend to forget how observant children are and how much weight from their childhood they carry on their shoulders as adults. I would not blame an Oprah or Keyshia Cole if they had nothing to do with their parents, but I respect them so much for all they do for their families.
She probably has beginning Alzheimers.
Probably bought the same $2000 dress 100 times.

I live in Milwaukee and work in Brookfield so i have walked pass the store a few times while running other errands, I thought it was cool because the stores name is the same as my middle name. When I saw that clearance rack outside of the store with jeans on clearance for $300.00 I didn't even bother walking in. So I can see how her bill could be that expensive.

LOL
Years ago it was reported that Oprah's mother couldn't stay within the $15,000 allowance that Oprah sends her. It was also reported that she racked up excessive bills back then too.
Enough of this. Why must Oprah be obligated to pay this woman's bills?
Just because someone gave birth to you does not make them your mother. A mother raises her child in love. Oprah's done enough by even sending her a monthly allowance. I wouldn't have even done that! Does it sound like this woman ever bonded with Oprah? Hell no.
@conscious1: That blew me away when I read Vernon Winfrey was writing a tell all book about Oprah. The nerve of him! She's spoken nothing but love about him in every interview I've ever seen. She sounds eternally grateful for that man taking her in and raising her to be who she is. She bought him and his wife a nice home in Nashville. Where do we get family members like this?
To this day, if a family member wants to get ignorant with me, I cut them off. I refuse to put up with fools that just share my lineage. Would you allow a stranger to mistreat you?
Oprah wasn't raised by her "mother." Oprah was raised by her grandmother and father. This woman is trifling. Oprah should let her deal with it herself out of her allowance. Family members don't have the right to drag down successful relatives over stupid decisions.
If this woman was a man who abandoned his now rich child ya'll wouldn't give this a second thought.
