I watched the episode where they showed her listening party and I heard the several snippets they played and... I don't know... It sounds like very smart producers tried to make an R&B chick crossover...But will it work? That "Make me Over" song was done, done, done by Fantasia on her last "hood rock" type album, the sound was, Tina Turner meats Hip Hop, and it really didn't fly. And you know Keyshia's voice can't touch Fantasia's.. I don't even know why they gave Keyshia such a song... More than anything, though, her LOOK this time around is RIDICULOUS. I have all three albums and this one is different from the rest. She did mention a different me so I had to catagorize this album from the others. The other albums I prety muck listen to them all the way through. But the new album I find myself jumping through songs. It is an album that you would have to get use to because it is not like the others. I like number 5, 9, 10, the song with Tupac and maybe 2-3 other songs I really like. I'm not saying that the album is not good but some albums have to grow on me and this is one. I like Keyshia but this one is not what I'm use to hearing from her. Now Keyshia that #5 is off the hook. You need to make that song your next single. |

I can appreciate "A New Me", but from my experience in the music business - you can't make two albums and then 'all of a sudden' there is a 'new me'. I know the changes she has been going through -and I am sure this is her attempt to include those challenges in her music, but Keisha has established herself with her fans as being real, down to earth and gritty. This album has been over-produced. There is not enough grit and hurt being reflected. In addition, we need to see more of Ms Cole on the circuit! The sad thing is - she is not so good live. She needs to work on her stage performance and really MANUP and get out there and make that paper. Quit bringing up mom and sis on stage - we know that's her family - but like the Pastor told her - they need to get their own wings and she can't hold them on hers and expect to fly very high.
Personally, I think she has too much 'weight' and those are the 'issues' that are holding her back and down. The girl can sing - but her first album is ALWAYS going to be the best in my opinion - |

I could do without the BimboWinehouse guy...he's just a little too much for me, but I agree with him. Her music was lot more relatable when she was depressed and goin through. I understand that she wants to evolve from that person but I think that we haven't seen it so we can't really understand it or feel it through her new music. Even on her show, she's portrayed as this saint with a crazy family and she's the only civilized normal one. I think theres a facade to her , she's being what she thinks is appropriate at this time in her life and not who she really is. I disagree with the Mary J. Blige comment though. The difference between Mary and Keisha[ and I'm not comparing the m musically , just in terms of their evolution as artist] is that we saw Mary go thru and we saw her evolve into the happy person when she sang songs like "no more drama" and "dance for me" and so forth, so we knew she was evolving and we embraced it as her fans. We want to know Keisha that way through her music as well or else we feel somewhat deceived and abandoned if we don't. It's like we were depressed and she was cool with us , got her some money and didn't help us get out of our funk. |

To Follow Up on Keisha Cole's Style this time around..
I hear you guys on her changing up her music style and not having the heart break, heart ache songs that unfortunately many of us can relate to..
Yes when were going through stuff its nice to hear a song that puts into words exactly what your going thru or have gone thru before or just hear someone else's pain.. BUT its not good to harp on those songs because its really not Good Energy to keep around..
Im about to get a little New Age.. But our world is heading into a new conciousness.. we are entering the "Age of Aquarius" and what that means is that we are realizing as human beings that we really do have power to make positive and good changes in our lives. Our thoughts are really powerful and if we are constantly listening and thriving off of "depressing" music, guess what are lives will be like!
Its good to listen to upbeat and inspiring or postive songs, because it can help to manifest what you really want in life and I feel that might have also been Keisha's thought process now as she's matured, shes really been through alot and she really wants to be happy in all aspects of her life, all of us do!
Well thats of my little enlightment for today and I also recommend the book "Power of the Subconconcious Mind" by Joseph Murphy..
