You can't even buy downloads of most Beatles CD's. I'm not sure how great of a deal it is. However, it's good to see a black man have ownership in black history. Dr. Dre needs to buy this catalog!!! He is the MAIN reason for Death Row's success. Suge got shyt done bullying cats no doubt and Snoop, Pac and the Dogg Pound laid it down, but Dre was the glue that bonded that label and made it pop. Dre is worth over 100 million dollars, so he can afford it. He might not be worth 250 mill like 50 Cent, but if he can buy his own catalog for 7-8 million, he needs to do it. No one will cherish those songs like him, especially the early, classic Death Row stuff like The Chronic or Doggstyle. You'll also never go broke, as those songs will at least make you six figures in royalties every year. It's like owning an apartment building and collecting rent for the next 20 years, then cashing out when the value triples or quadruples. You have O.G pop stars like David Bowie and Sting who sold their catalogs for over 50 million dollars several years ago, long after their heyday. Rap is the premier music for marketing to young people and will be for years to come. Classic rap tunes will make mucho money, as the hip hop generation and their children gets older. This is a no brainer for 50 Cent, but I would prefer Dre own these rights. He's appreciate them more.
P.S: I thought 80's cocaine kingpin Michael Harris and his wife Lydia won some judgment against Suge Knight, since he was the money man that bankrolled Death Row from jail, during the early "Deep Cover" days. Suge and that scumbag lawyer David Kenner (who was originally Harris' defense attorney) took advantage of Michael Harris being incarcerated and cut him out of the picture. |
