Brown sought in alleged beating

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Los Angeles police say they're investigating an alleged domestic violence felony battery report involving Chris Brown.
The police department says in a release the 19-year-old R&B singer and a woman were in a vehicle in the Hancock Park neighborhood early Sunday when they began arguing. Police say Brown and the woman got out of the car and the argument escalated.
Police say the woman identified Brown as her attacker. Officers say Brown wasn't at the scene. A message left for Brown's representative seeking comment wasn't immediately returned.
Meanwhile, Entertainment Tonight has confirmed that Brown's girlfriend, pop singer Rihanna was involved in a car accident this morning and will not be performing at tonight's 51st Annual Grammy Awards.
A Grammy representative told ET that the singer's face is slightly bruised from the accident and no announcement has been made as to who will be taking her place on stage.
On Saturday night, both Brown and Rihanna attended the Recording Academy and Clive Davis' pre-Grammy party in Beverly Hills. |

According to L.A. news sources, the 19-year-old R&B singer and a woman were in a vehicle in the Hancock Park neighborhood early Sunday when they began arguing.
Police say Brown and the woman got out of the car and the argument escalated. The woman identified Brown as her attacker and had visible injuries when officers officers arrived. Officers say Brown wasn't at the scene.
The "Superhuman" singer was spotted at a party honoring music mogul Clive Davis with his longtime girlfriend Rihanna before the reported incident.
Sources close to the Grammys have reported that both Chris Brown and Rihanna have canceled their performances and have not showed up for pre-planned red carpet interviews.
While authorities have not confirmed that Rihanna was involved, sources believe Rihanna was the 'woman' in the car.

R&B singer Chris Brown is being investigated for an assault on a woman this morning (February 8) in Los Angeles, according to reports.
Police said they received a 911 call from an unidentified female earlier today and when they arrived, they found a woman with injuries.
The woman, believed to be Brown’s girlfriend Rihanna, identified Brown as her alleged attacked.
Police are seeking to question Brown, who had left the scene by the time police arrived.
While representatives for Rihanna told [SPAM].com that singer was ok, a rep from The Recording Academy confirmed that neither Rihanna, nor Brown will be attending tonight’s Grammy ceremonies.

Details were sketchy at press time, but EW.com is reporting that Rihanna and Chris Brown have canceled their performances at tonight's Grammy Awards after being involved in a car accident, citing "sources backstage." The site also said that Al Green will perform in their place. It was confirmed on "E!" before the Grammys Sunday evening that neither Rihanna nor Brown will appear on the show.

R&B singer Chris Brown is being sought by Los Angeles cops for allegedly beating up a woman, not long after he left a party with girlfriend Rihanna, police said.
The Los Angle Police Department would not identify the woman who was attacked early Sunday, citing confidentiality.
But sexy superstar Rihanna, 20, scrapped her planned performance at the Grammys just before the award show kicked off Sunday night, fueling speculation that she was the victim.
Brown, 19, also became a Grammys no-show at the last minute.
Rihanna's publicist, Amanda Silverman, claimed the "Umbrella" singer was involved in a traffic mishap but "is fine."
Cops said they want to talk to the sweet-faced "Run It!" singer who is now subject to arrest.
"[Brown] is a person of interest in the incident," said LAPD spokeswoman April Harding. "We are looking for him."
Police said the domestic violence and battery incident took place around 12:30 a.m. Sunday in the affluent neighborhood of Hancock Park.
"Brown and the woman were inside of a vehicle," Harding said. "According to the victim they became involved in an argument...The argument escalated into an altercation."
The couple got out of the car and continued to argue.
By the time cops responded to the scene following a 911 call, Brown was gone.
His victim, "suffered visible injuries and identified Mr. Brown as her attacker," Harding said.
Brown and Rihanna were seen earlier Saturday night at a pre-Grammy gala hosted by music mogul Clive Davis in Beverly Hills.
The two posed for pictures and were spotted kissing before they hopped into a waiting silver Lamborghini.
The pop world's power couple have been dating for over a year and rumors have swirled that they were engaged.
Yet there were rumblings in recent days about troubles in their relationship. Singer Colby O'Donis had claimed they broke up while other sources described the Barbados-born beauty as a clingy girlfriend who can't bear to have Brown out of her sights.
Rihanna was nominated for Grammys in three categories this year, including Best Dance Recording for "Disturbia." Brown received two nods, including Best Male R&B Vocal Performance for "Take You Down."
Ken Erlich, a producer of the award show, told the Grammys audiance, "You're going to see a lot of surprises today. A couple of the surprises even surprised us."
Brown's planned performance as the evenings's second musical number was replaced by Justin Timberlake and Al Green.

Grammy day was supposed to be a glittery affair for R&B's reigning It couple, Chris Brown and Rihanna. But things have gone horribly amiss.
Los Angeles police have confirmed Brown, 19, is being investigated for felony domestic battery. Sources tell E! News that the alleged victim was Rihanna, 20, and that she had visible bruises on her face. Both bailed on their scheduled Grammy performances.
A spokeswoman for Brown's label declined comment. Rihanna's publicist, Amanda Silverman, would only tell E! News that the 20-year-old "Disturbia" singer was involved in a traffic mishap and "is fine."
Per department policy, police are declining to identify the alleged victim. Investigators are attempting to track down Brown.
"When we can find him we will take him into custody for questioning," says Officer Karen Smith, an LAPD spokeswoman. "If there is probable cause for an arrest, then he will be arrested."
The incident occurred around 12:30 a.m. Sunday in the Hancock Park area of Los Angeles. Earlier in the evening Brown and Rihanna were all smiles while attending Clive Davis' annual pre-Grammy bash together.
In a statement, police say Brown and his companion "became involved in an argument. After stopping his car, Brown and the woman got out and the argument escalated. The woman suffered visible injuries and identified Brown as her attacker."
By the time officers arrived on the scene, Brown had split.
Rihanna, whose full name is Robyn Rihanna Fenty, decided against singing a medley of "Disturbia" and "Live Your Life" at tonight's awards. Likewise, Brown scrapped his scheduled performance of "Forever."
"We're sorry she is unable to join us this evening," said the Recording Academy. A virtually identical statement was issued for Brown's absence.

Los Angeles police said they plan to detain R&B singer Chris Brown for questioning in connection with an alleged domestic violence assault against his girlfriend, pop singer Rihanna, according to sources familiar with the investigation.
[Updated 8 p.m.] Brown arrived at the Wilshire Division station about 7:15 p.m., accompanied by his attorney Mark Geragos and Geragos' investigator Scott Ross. The pair drove into a parking lot behind the station on Venice Boulevard, east of La Brea Avenue, in a black Escalade. Brown and the man entered through a back door where a posted sign stated for “authorized personnel only.” Police are expected to release a statement later this evening
Brown and Rihanna canceled their performances at tonight's Grammy Awards.
The incident is being investigated as a felony domestic violence case, police said. It was reported about 12:30 a.m. Sunday in Hancock Park.
Brown and Rihanna, whose full name is Robyn Rihanna Fenty, were apparently in a car together and got into an argument on North June Street, according to a Los Angeles Police Department statement. Brown stopped the car, the two got out, and the argument escalated, according to police.
A witness called 911, but Brown was gone when officers arrived at the scene. The woman suffered visible injuries and identified Brown as her attacker, according to police. |

@ Antidumb: I agree, however, I think it;'s good for women who have been in the same situation to share their experiences, almost like a support group.
The reason why so many women stay in those type of relationships and ALLOW it to continue is because they are embarassed, humiliated, and they feel as if they are the ONLY ones going through it. Sometimes it takes other women who have gone through it, to say: "I've been there, I've done that, I've left and I've learned" to give them that extra boost to leave.
Even with Rihanna, as Ive said, its no secret that her and Chris have been "boxing" each other for a while. Why they stayed together to let it continue to this extent is beyond me, but maybe Rihanna, seeing that other women who have endured this crap support her nonetheless, and they recognize it as wrong too, just MAYBE she'll finally get the hint that with Chris is NOT where "she needs to be."
It's sad to say, but so many women still think that this type of treatment is "the norm" and that its okay. It's never okay. It never WAS okay and it never CAN be okay.
With that said, I think all women should share their stories, especially if theyve been abused and being able to finally triumph through it. You never know who might be reading this, and hearing how other women have had the strength, courage and the fight to get up and leave...may just give them the valor to do the same.
But I don't condone the domestic violence at all. I have fought a few men, but I will admit, I should never have HAD to fight them. |

Los Angeles police said earlier they planned to detain Brown for questioning on an alleged domestic violence assault. In an updated statement tonight, police said, additional charges may be filed against Brown when the case is presented to the Los Angeles County district attorney's office. Brown listed his residence as Washington, Va.
[Updated 7:25 p.m.] Brown arrived at the Wilshire Division police station before 7:15 p.m., accompanied by his attorney Mark Geragos and Geragos' investigator, Scott Ross. The pair drove into a parking lot behind the police station on Venice Boulevard just east of La Brea Avenue in a black Cadillac Escalade. They entered through a back door where a posted sign read “authorized personnel only.” Police are expected to release a statement later this evening

The alleged incident was reported about 12:30 a.m. Sunday in Hancock Park.
