: MediaTakeOut.com just caught wind that NY newspaper The Village Voice is attempting to out director Tyler Perry as GAY. In a recent article, the paper suggests that Tyler is living “on the downlow” and that he needs to come out the closet.

Tyler Perry is very GAY...I can honestly say I know this for a FACT...I'm a hairstylist in Atlanta and her used to date one of my close friends. Stop it. Sista made a good point that was a stark departure from the "Its all the Black man's fault" type stuff I often see on here. And I think I have on plenty of occasions stated that both black men AND women are at fault for issues in the community. I just point out that its not all on Black men...They are community problems that all of us own. Can't a brotha just give credit where its due? There has never been a positive image of black men since America has been in existence here in America. We were powerless in our woman's eyes, and major respect was lost for us.
He controlled the laws, he had money, so he was a MAN to our women. Black women saw her man get called boy, and saw him get whipped like one.
White men hated us (even though we were the slaves, go figure), and put out negative stereotypes about us, and repeated them over and over again until some of it rubbed off on our women.
He still has the masterplan to keep us unemployed and broke today which keeps respect for us by our women low. We've never been in a good light from the beginning of our time here in America.
This might not be the only reason, but it's a very powerful one.
Just because Tyler Perry plays Madea in his films does not mean that he is gay. He is definitely not gay. He is a true christian. Honestly, I don't know...But the one thing I try to be as much as possible is fair, and I know that I don't like it the whole notion of judging each other more harshly. I think we all can get defensive and lash back in certain circumstances, but its not a healthy thing. Perhaps it's because as black people we are closer to one another we feel more comfortable being harder on one another. Or as Poppin says, the system has sowed seeds that still divided us. All I do know is that this practice of being so hard on one another does nothing but create divisiveness within out community. Every human being, deep down, wants to be treated fairly. I think that is something fundamental. So anytime someone feels like they are being judged more harshly than others for the same things, or that they are being just judged without credit being given to their positives, it is going to create resentment. Really, no matter how much back and forth finger pointing goes on, none of it changes the fact that in order for the black community to improve, BOTH black men and women have to do work to clean our back yards. This us vs. them stuff doesn't help at all.

However I do disagree with you on Tyler. I absolutely hate the whole notion of black men who have the power to put images on the big screen resorting to the "drag" crap. I really do feel it undermines black masculinity and feminity (making black men look soft and black women look rough) in one swoop, at the same time. Personally, I just can't support that. I know people say that the role wouldn't be the same with a female playing the role, but there have been plenty of black movies that featured strong maternal figures that didn't involve men in women's clothes for me to believe otherwise.

I am not the biggest Tyler Perry fan but the man is talented. His talent should speak for itself. If he is a homosexual that is his business. If he chooses to remain “in the closet”, that is his business. It isn't so much that his career would be over if he “came out” or that homosexuality is not embraced in the "black" community, that is the lie of all lies! I said that there is no comparison. Ahmad married a single woman. Kelly was alleged to be acting inappropriate (I agree probably untrue) with a married man. No comparison. They may have both been there for money, but one involved (alleged) adultery. She is too good to be caught up in something like that.
Stop acting like I go around attacking black women and that I don't defend them as well. You know better than that. I have no problems calling out a black man who is in the wrong. I have no problem defending a black woman (E. Badu, C. Iman, etc.) who is being attacked. In some situations where its clear that there are fools on both sides (Jason Caffey) i'm going to call that like it is too. Things don't always have to end up in a big "who is more at fault, black man vs. black woman" battle royale.
Now as a woman, of course, I think it is in a woman's nature to like and respect strength in a man. I just think that both black men and women are at times guilty of drinking the kool-aid and focusing so much on what we aren't doing that we over look those that are out there on their hustle and handling their business. It's unfortunate that the biggest fools in our community are also the flashiest and draw the most attention. Doesn't change the fact that there are plenty of regular everyday brothers (and sisters) handling their business.
