To all of the people commenting about Rachel Roy being a golddigger:
1. How can you be a golddigger when there is no gold to dig?
2. How can a woman be a golddigger when she has her own lucrative career and has made a large contribution to her husband's success?
3. Why is it that when a woman divorces her husband, the first title that is placed on her is that she is a golddigger (especially by other women)? Did anyone stop to think that Damon Dash has been an infidel? He may have been physically, mentally or emotionally abusive towards his wife, especially considering his present financial woes. Would you remain in that situation?
4. Rachel has two daughters to look after. The fact that she's NOT seeking monetary compensation from Damon (at least in the span of alimony, because he should be ordered to pay child support for his children) implies that Rachel is self-sufficient and does not need to rely upon anyone but God and herself.
Just because you are unfamiliar with a person's background doesn't mean that they haven't accomplished anything. Rachel has always been the behind-the-scenes party in the Dash/Roy marriage and Damon was always the mouthpiece. I'd put my money on Rachel that she may end up having to cut Dame a check before it's over with.

Rachel's line was briefly sold (in L.A.) in Neiman Marcus Beverly Hills. The manner in which it was displayed and the department it was displayed in really was not complimentary to her line. I never recall there being a trunk show for her line or an in-store to promote her line, and you're correct, it fizzled. Her style is a lot more mature than most 25-35-year-olds, which I believe is her target demographic (don't quote me on that). They aren't clothes that you would wear to work, and in many cases, since we are a jeans and t-shirts city, they are really overstated for evening. Her style is definitely New York style, but her clothes were nice. |

It was his money that made her the success that she is because investors weren't exactly lining up to finance her art project. What a list celebs are lining up to wear her clothes on the red carpet . . .silence . . . crickets . . . Her line does moderate sales at best. She's not on par with Tory Burch, whose wears Oprah and the Lily Pulitzer crowd really do cop to wearing. Rachel sold half of her company to Jones New York for the same reason that Narcisso Rodriguez sold his company to Liz Claiborne, both were massively in debt and needed cash.
She had one appearance on Oprah as did Kimora, Stevie Wonder's wife Kai Mila, and a slew of others. Getting your wares on Oprah wouldn't have even been that hard to do for her given the fact that Damon was a rich, well connected entertainment exec, and Rachel was making cameos on the NYC charity circuit with well connected people, paying for tickets at benefits that she wouldn't have been able to afford without . . . you guessed it . . . Dame's money. Saying that Rachel got to be on Oprah because of her design talent is like saying that Jessica Seinfeld got to plug her book on Oprah because she's a fantastic author (LOL) and not Jerry Seinfeld's wife. Some of yall need to wake up for real!
Damon was her first husband. She was married to NBA player Yinka Dare before Damon Dash. Damon was her second husband, and everybody knows that it took Aaliyah's plane crash for Dame to go back to her. So yes, she is indeed a paper chaser, and the timing of her impending divorce is suspicious. So lets not get it twisted. Let's see what sucker is going to pick up her tab next. If that's the case, since Jay-Z bought Damon out of the clothing line and sold Roc-A-Fella Records for $10 million (split 3 ways between Dame, Jay and Biggs Burke), where did Damon have money to bankroll Rachel's line? Rachel's line was purchased by Jones New York within the past 2 years, which is when the production stages took off.
Dame had a $2.1 or $2.2 million home in L.A. that he was trying to unload about 3 years ago. I'm not sure that it was sold. The Tribeca apartments are in arrears with their association, which is why a lien was placed on the properties, and the mortgages were reportedly in arrears as well. Boogie was taken out of private school (in high school, of all times) and placed in public school and Damon is behind on his child support payments to Boogie's mom.

Rachel Roy wasn't the only clothing line that Dame had a stake in. Samantha Ronson's line "S.Ronson" is/was funded by Damon Dash. Damon may or may not have had hundreds of millions, but when his partnership with Jay ended he had upper eight figure money. Jay sold Roccawear to Iconex for over 200 million,not 10 milliosn, and you're not including the money that he and Dame made off of the line at the height of the urban clothing craze, the money Dame made off royalties and salaries from Rockafella records, and whatever else Dame was into before his financial troubles. |

Ronson and what is going on with her line? Her father was in Foreigner (Mick Jones) so I doubt she "needed" Dame's money. The Mark, Samantha and Charlotte Ronson trifecta = marketing. Damon's production of Posh Spice songs for her solo album = marketing. He needed greater visibility in the UK. I have no clue as to how "profitable" the aforementioned ventures are.
Also, I said specifically that Roc-A-Fella Records sold for $10 million, split 3 ways. I never stated how much Damon received from the clothing company because I'm not sure how much of a stake he had in Roc-A-Wear. I have it on good authority, however, that he didn't receive as much as some would think despite the profitability of Roc-A-Wear at one point.
With millions of dollars in profits and earnings from sales of companies or buyouts comes millions in taxes. Take 50% of what Damon earned and send it to the IRS. He was deeply in debt DESPITE the fact that 2 of "his" companies were earning money. Damon made some bad investments and he's clearly lived above his means. If he earned Jay-Z money, why isn't Jay-Z in Damon's predicament?

It doesn't take a genius to figure out why Jay isn't in the same predicament. Dame only got a cut of what Jay made. For starters, unlike Dame, we know for certain that Jay has hundreds of millions. So if Armandale vodka or whatever isn't getting a foothold in the market, then Jay is better able to absorb the shock. Secondly, I think Damon sunk his money into ventures that he didn't necessarily know how to make work. He wanted to get his own conglomerate going, but that's easier said than done. You can own Pro-keds, but how do you increase Pro-keds market share? How do you make the brand as relevant as it was before you bought it? Now, Dame has a pretty good hustle and obviously an eye for talent if she signed both Jay and Kanye and Cam, etc., but running Rockafella with Jay on the roster is like Phil Jackson getting the lion share of the credit for the six championships with Michael Jordan on the team. I would assume that when Dame was partnered with Jay he had more money rolling in than he does without Jay.
As for S. Ronson, I stand corrected then, C. Ronson, and my bad, if you were talking about the record label not the clothing line. I actually think Dame and Jay sold Rockafella records to Def Jam for a lot less than ten million. The sale of that company was not where either made the bulk of their money,but that's really besides the point because you're POV is that Dame had no money to finance these ventures, when the reality is, Dame had the funds to bankroll quite a few, C. Ronson and Rachel Roy among them.
And You damn right, she wasn't broke. When she wasn't spending the NBA money she got off of Yinka Dare, she was probably spending Dame's child support checks that she got for their eldest daughter Ava.
Fendi, Being broke and having enough collateral to finance a clothing line like that are two things entirely. Kimora wasn't broke when she started dating Russell either, but she certainly didn't have the clout or the infrastructure to launch Babyphat on her own, and neither did Rachel Roy, and she most likely wouldn't have had the opportunity if not for Dame, period.
What reason do you have to believe that she could have gotten her line off of the ground without Dame?
