Well the 'At The Movies' gave The Soloist a 'skip It' review. And we all know nowadays teeny boopers are the primary movie goers, so I don't think the Cyrus situation had anything to do with this movie having bad numbers.
As far as 'Obsessed' goes, Bey didn't even release this movie to be reviewed by critics, because she know they would dog the schitt out of it.
And even if it did make 28 mill this past weekend, so what? Compared to the opening weekends of 'Monsters vs Aliens' and 'Fast and Furious': Those movies left this one in the dust!

Didn't see Obsessed (waiting until it comes on Netflix) but The Soloist was terrific (Jamie's performance was Oscar-worthy). It doesn't take a genius to know that Bey's movie was going to do better than Jamie's in box-office terms. Bey has a broader fan base. Simple as that. I seriously doubt it had much to do with Jamie's Miley Cyrus comments. And even though $28 mil is great in the first week (especially for a movie with a solid black cast), let's see what the numbers look like in the upcoming weeks. Just sayin'... |

Some films are designed for boxofffice gold. This film is designed for oscar gold. As long it's critically acclaimed then a film is never a flop. I chose to see FAST AND THE furious and my sis saw obsessed. She came into my theater when she finished with her film and when fast and the furious was over then we could not stop talking about it. She never once mentioned "obsessed" and she's a bey fan and the type to talk about something on end when she really likes something. Wow, "Obsessed" is really forgettable as I knew it would be. Fatal Attraction is the film to beat. |

"Fighting" and "Soloist" did about the same at roughly 11 million. They didn't do heavvy marketing for that film but it looks good I'm going to see that and "Observe and Report" as well as the soloist when I get time. Most young people got suckered into seeing "Obsessed" and when it was over they wished they hadn't. even though I like Idris from his previous work "unborn", "Daddy's little girls" and many other films as well as ALi Larter (Heroes, Final Destinatiom and many others) I stayed way from this film obsessed because the storyline was recycled and the actors are not as great as the actors for Fatal Attraction. Many people complained about the storyline lol. That ending for fast and furious was FIERCE. I LOVED IT!! I might watch it again. Vin Diesel and 2 others produced it and made bank. That film brought in 73 million in it's first week. That's legendary for this type of film. Vin is sitting pretty right now. Cha Ching. |

I went to the movies this weekend and Obsessed was playing on 4 screens, while The Soloist was only playing on 1. I do not think it has anything to do with the comments that Jamie made, it is just that this movie is not backed by a major studio, so it is getting less exposure. 9m is good when you consider that only it has 1/4 of the viewings of Obsessed. |

The truth is that "obessed" had better promotion
than "the soloist." Jamie Foxx has delicated so
much of his time lately doing music, it almost
seem odd that he did that type of acting role.I
know about the oscar and all but Jamie need to
remember he is a comedian first and an actor
second.
And the comments he made about Miley Cyrus was
wrong inregards to what she is doing he is a
grown man with a daughter a couple years younger

OK let's take time to examine this...1st off "Obsessed" was advertised to death on tv and in the magazines, it's a wonder that it did'nt make more than 28 million(cause the ads COST $$ to put on tv). Teenagers are still watching "17 Again". "The Soloist" is one of those heavy duty films that should have been released in the fall/winter especially for Oscar consideration. As far as a backlash to Miley Cyrus, if that was the case radio would have stop playing "Blame It". Where did he say that he would use his daugther to apologize to Miley? I don't care what race or nationality Miley Cyrus is, you don't say those horrible things about kids. I know he was p*ssed because Miley made some statements about Radiohead, but all kids have false senses of entitlement. Her acting like a spoiled brat is normal for a teenage. What is not normal or acceptable (for an adult) is saying you want a young girl to develop a drug habit and make a sex tape.

It cost 60 mill to make and barely made 10 mill. Obsessed made a profit in a week and Soloist is deep in the hole. Everyone will be taken a back seat to Wolverines origin on May 1st. So, based on numbers, Obsessed did its thing. If Obsession did 10 million every one would have called it a flop, yet The Soloist's budget was twice and much to make, yet its no considered a flop.
