These photos are MISLEADING. There are other photos taken at the same time, where Gabriel's arm is around Halle--and they're smiling at each other.
I'm sure if someone snapped pics of "regular" people while they're at the airport (or doing anything normal for that matter)-- the expressions might be lacklulster as well.
Are there problems between Halle and Gabe? Who knows? But media attention like this is what rumor mills are made of.
Take a look at the other pics, and you'll see that this family looks like any other normal family at the airport.
I have never once seen these two look happy together. It is so obvious that he is nothing but a sperm donor to her, and its only a matter of time before he ends up like Carlos Leon (Madonna's sperm donor for her oldest kid) and gets thrown to the curb.
