: Essence Magazine did a recent interview with Terrence Howard that should appear of newsstands shortly. Here is an excerpt from that article:
[Howard] talks about breakup drama, celeb crushes ("I tried to talk to Halle for a bit. Didn't call me back. Tried to talk to Gabrielle Union. Didn't call me back, either."), the kind of woman he prefers ("I've heard it said that I only date White women. The only woman I really love is my wife, and she happens to be White. Who gives a damn? A lot of Black women get upset. You know, the fact is, we are human beings.").
But Terrence doesn't just talk the usual nonsense in the article. He also opens up about his personal life. Here's another excerpt:
"I stopped smoking," he says. Of course, anyone who has ever seen this man take a drag on film can tell it was hardly an act. Cigarettes read "cool," Howard's quintessential selling point. "The habit was a problem in my life," he says. "I always thought I was strong enough to battle it, but I guess I wasn't. I went to Dubai for a film festival recently and purchased a 7,000-pound stone lion that now sits outside my home. I put my very last cigarette underneath it." And what inspired this grand gesture? "See, people don't take advantage of the time given to them for their families."He pauses, clears his throat. It's cliched, Howard knows, but in his life right now it's also a critical truth. "My mom has to go through severe surgery, her third, for colon and intestinal cancer. She's at stage IV right now, so if it doesn't work on her, that's probably the end of it, you know? I just want to encourage people to make time for the people who are important in their lives." Pauses again. "I'm also asking for prayers," he says with massive humility.

It’s funny how Mr. Howard can make the comment that he doesn’t give a dam what Black women think about his marriage but he seems to give a dam about whether or not they are loving him on the scene I had a lot of respect for Mr. Howard but after reading his article I can’t say I feel the same way Mr. Howard we all don’t have a problem with whom ever you choose to fall in love with or marry because love has not color. But the fact that you stated you don’t give a dam what black women think well maybe we won’t give a dam about your dam movies like the new one you are about to come out with Pride after all we sisters have a lot of that “ Pride”

I read a article a few years back and he said his father got into a fight while in line with his mother. Some white man said to his father what is he doing with that *** and said his mother was of dark complexion and his dad could pass for being white.
His father got into a fight with the man that land him in prison. When his father came out he was not the same person he was when he enter he was more harsh and mean not the kind and gentle loving person her once knew.

I think that people are reading more into his comments , than they need to! I didnt hear the man say that he disliked black women. He said that he loved his wife, who happened to be white. The reason that he stated alot of black women seem angry that his wife is nonblack ,is because obviously thats who gives him the most flack about it. Yall know that *** is true. Alot of us (not all but alot) of us see a fine black brother , and find out hes married to a non black woman and right away we lose our mind, because we feel that he should be with "one of us"! What a shock, a few black women up in awe over a man that none of them even wanted to date, confessing to loving his white wife, who by the way was with him way before Oscar nominations and critical acclaim and most importantly, big paychecks. MTO of course tries to make the story even more appealing by misleading it's readers.
Terrance Howard is one of the finest actors of this generation and this black man is proud that we continue to make strides. Too bad some knowledge-deficient black men and women are more concerned with hate. Maybe it's because he's living a dream those hating are going to crappy jobs to take care of 4-5 kids when they shouldve stopped making babies after the first 1.

Black women are quick to get on a black man's case, as soon as a black man mentions some negative truths about black women, the yapping starts up. relax. First of all. He lies and he cheats over and over and over again. His wife has Married and Divorced him twice if not more, she broke up with him for 6 years,he begged her back and he still cheated. Now He's going for a third time marriage and begging her back. There is only a certain kind of man that announces what type of woman he dates, then tells a person of the oppostie race. Kharing is right in "Get Rich or Die Trying" Terrence's package was nearly invisible. I think that is the real reason he dates white women, but he might need to move on to Chinese women with a package that small. And as a black woman I would never want a black man whom like white women because that means that he do not like me so let that man try to get back with his wife, the person whom he love. And Essence did go to far with the airbrushing tool and patch tool. He looks unreal. But you do have to give him credit the brother got talent (acting).

I am reading this and cannot understand how some of you feel that the racist comments posted about this article is remotely okay. If white people wrote the same comments about a white celebrity dating/married to a black person---people would cry foul. ITS NOT RIGHT GUYS! We all should be better than that. As an African woman with a German husband, I could care less what his racial preference is. I think African American women need to stop acting so stupid over black (or half black) men being with white women. So what, if you want a white man go get one, I did and he's better to me than any black man could ever be.

afroman Im not saying that it is impossible for a black man to be good to a black woman. My dad was and still is a great husband to my mother (both Eritrean). What I meant by that statement was that I dated mostly black men and 2 Asians before I got married. The guys I dated did not suit me for many reasons: arogance, materialism, lying, issues, the list goes on... My husband and I met at an art show eight years ago and we've been together ever since.
The fact is, it's the individual. I individually fell in love with a German, I didn't seek him out or consider his hair and nose. He treated (and still treats) me with respect, loyalty and trust. These are things all women should want regardless of what color the package is (its irrelevant).

Terrence's mother is black and his father is white....he has just as much reason to date a white woman as he would a black woman. Truth be told, he doesn't have to date either, he could date a Asian, Hispanic or Indian if he chose to. We all have our preferences and Terrence has his. It just so happens that he prefers white woman, if I'm not mistaken he grew up in Minnesota, so that doesn't make it surprising.

I'm glad you admitted that you have prejudices. You see, I am not prejudice. I could never hate black people, my family is black. I cant hate white people because of my husband and so many others. You must not have all your screws tight, cause Prejudice is not hate and anger. Prejudice is a part of everyday life. If you only like scrambled eggs, that doesn't mean you are angry at sunny side up, it just means you don't like them. Some people only prefer red cars, that doesn not mean they hate black cars, it's just a preference. Do your homework. Prejudice is preference, not racism or hate. Some acts of prejudice may lead to hate, but I'm not out killing brothas or sistas who date white people.
and how do you speak on someone's happiness without knowing them? I'm very content with who I am and I love myself and Yahweh blesses me every step of the way. Prejudice and Racism is not the same thing.

It's not unreasonable on only want to date black men; it's wrong to think that black men who date white women do so for any other reason than that's what he has chosen to do.

People, be with who you want! If you want someone in your race, be with them. If you want someone outside your race, be with them. The world is only going to continue in the cycle downhill if everyone keeps seeing color and not people. If he wants to be with a white woman, let him, who cares? If he wants to be with her because he loves her, let him, who cares? I certainly don't. In the end of the day, we all choose who we want to sleep with, so get over it! PLEASE!!!

Afroman, Sometimes we say things out of frustration. Everyone has done it. I apologize to anyone who read my first post and was offended. I didn't intentionally mean to do it. Sometimes you have to look at a situation from the other side of the picture. I'm a good person and i'm only being with the person I love, yet for that, I get crucified on a daily basis by people. Life is TOO *** TO DO THINGS JUST TO SATISFY OTHERS when it comes to certain things, love is one of them.
I KNOW there are good black men in the world AND bad white men. To be honest, I was in a relationship with a good black man but it didn't work out for *** out of our control. If I ever get a divorce for any reason, I will not rule out black men. I know my heritage and I do love it; at the same time I know I am of the HUMAN race.
Racism, prejudice, preference, whatever! If people just learn to except that if two people are together that's there business. I don't frown on anyones relationship so I wish people would stop frowning upon mine.
first of all i did read all of the posts and what she "initially" said was that she prefers Black men, cause she doesn't trust the white man's perception of her, based on historical matters. then she said that she doesn't care who Terrance Howard is married to cause she'll still support him cause he's a phenomenal actor and musician. Then Miss "what's her name" called her ignorant. Then "ole girl" snapped back because of what she said about "the German treating her better than any Black man could". then "what's her name" tried to brush her own comments to the side saying she didn't mean to say that, which I feel she did.
I'm a Black woman and I have that same complex issue about how white men look at us and I can't and won't date them for those reasons, among others. She didn't say white women didn't have anything in common with black men until after "what's her name" came at her.

actually, that is not what prejudice is. there has been a big debate about webster's definition for the last 40-50 years.
based on sociology and other behaviorial studies, prejudice has been defined as "preference based on like experiences or perceptions." For instance if all you have been robbed by are white 17 year old boys, you become prejudiced towards them because you perceive them all to be that way, therefore you will not feel threatened when in the presence of other 17 year old boys. Prejudice is also a complex, but not so much as hatred, it is a dislike based on experience. Now if you start segregating societies based on your perceptions of particular groups then it's racist, and only the government and the wealthy have the power to do that.
This is probably why the_realist said what she said. Throughout history Black men have dated white women because of a slave mentality and white women have been seen as weak, and for slavery reasons, most Black women won't date a white man because of the complex history of slavery and what was done to so many sistas during that time.

I read the article and was totally confused. It was all over the place. One minute it talked about his mother, then his wife, then his father, then the movies then back to his wife. It was extremely hard to follow. Just when he started talking about something worth while, it jumped to another subject. I have to rate the article a '0'.
