I understand what you are saying. I di realize we are a different generation but does honestly you get what you put out there. There are many women who desire to be married, but they either give the guy to much to soon, or start popping out babies so the men take the easy route and never marry them. There are many couples that have better relationships that married people have, that's an individual thing. Is it safe to assume that becasue we are a different generation we should lower our standards? The thing is this is not so much about the fact that people are havign babies out of wedlock for whatever reason and being fine with it. This has everything to do with sistahs who are selling themselves short. Like I said if you have no desire to be married then that's up to you but that's not the the case most of the time. |

itiswhatitis my question to you why do you think a person is selling themselves short by not getting married? I really don't know the statistics about who wants to get married and who doesn't, my question to you is why do people feel marriage makes the relationship better? people should get married because they truly want to, my thing is I feel me and my hubby could have stayed bf/gf and it would have made no difference, I just don't see how marriage secures the deal or make things better, the only thing in my opinon about marriage is that it secures financial only making the couple one person in the government eyes...
However I'm not knocking marriage by any means, if I can do it all I again I will, my thing is I just never understand how people can knock others who have babies out of wedlock etc. AT least its they are still a healthy loving couple is what should really matter.. but that is my opinion, I feel what you are saying... but I dont' feel like my generation is lowering our standards because we choose otherwise... our generation today is raised by parents who is teaching their young women and men to be independent, not find a man who will marry you, and that's just real so if you are going to blame anyone then it would have to be the parents of the children of this generation, and I will be to blame in the future as well because when I am blessed with kids I will be teaching them about independence as well, and love someone for who they are not if they will marry u or what they can do for you... but to each its own... a major generation gap...

it's a hobby. It's important to committed, AND married -- the children are affected and hurt most by some of yall's thinking, even though it might not show up right away and clearly, it will manifest itself in other ways, trust and believe.

What up strongblackwoman, yesterday I was listening to the motor mouth Wendy Williams and she announced that Eddie Murphy was the father. I don't know where she got her info from, but that's what I was riding off of. I don't see it on any other site and I'm sure MTO would of put that as headline news instead of Pharell and his girlfriend. lol
As far as this whole marriage issue, most couples prefer to keep it just as a long term relationship, whether a child is being raised by a single parent or both parents that child is gone grow up with it's own choices in life. They may develop great values but that can be learned from single parenting. Some children are raised with both parents and they child still grow up to be murderers, drug/alcohol abusers, child molesters and the whole nine.
Me personally, I prefer not to be married based on my past relationships where I've been cheated on twice and that was enough to convince me that being married was not part of my agenda. I know they say don't let one apple spoil the whole bunch but hey that was enough for me. Because I figure if I was married and I got cheated on then I would of been in a whole 'nother predictament. Having a child with your husband is an honor. All children are blessings. See the problem is that we have so many women being reared in household without daddy's that they can not phathom the idea of what it would be like to have a dad in the household. Now that's sad. This is not meant to put anyone down. I feel like I can speak(type)freely because I am a bastard child just like they say Jesus was. My mom and dad just went and did they thang but its all good I am not mad at them I have just learned to make some different choices in my life. A child needs needs both parents. Its so unfair for a mother to rear her children alone just like its unfair for father to do it all by himself. The child wasn't created by one. It was created by 2 so why not 2 share in the continual growth and development of the child.

A report burning up the net claims that superproducer Pharrell Williams is going to be a daddy with his "girlfriend of nearly 5 years," Vashtie Kola, who's pregnant with their kid.
But Pharrell tells [SPAM] that the news is "100% not true," and we're told by a source close to Williams that he hasn't even seen her in over a year.
MediaTakeOut.com reported the "news," claiming that the couple are trying to keep the pregnancy "under wraps," but our source says that Kola actually has a new boyfriend, and that no one is even certain that she's pregnant. We're told that Pharrell is "not sure why this is coming out now."

Great conversation going- i wish i hadn't gotten into it so late. But let's be real - most of the times its really the MAN who doesn't want to marry the WOMAN who is pregnant with his kid.
The woman may act as though it's no big deal- but really- I think most of the time she would ...esp. after having the child and really seeing how hard it is to be a single mom.
Men who have "girlfriends" with kids by them- CHEAT. Sorry- but it's true. A man not being "ready" is his way of letting the woman know he still wants to mess with other women---or in the back of his mind he's thinking there is still something better out there that he might find- and he doesnt want the legal tie down.
All the young ladies saying marriage isn't important- are probably still young. But young ladies listen- as you get older you're minds will probably change!!!! You do eventually get tired of clubbing 4 nights a week- and the stuff that was important isn't....when a woman (and most men) get older they want to have a "life partner" ...not saying you have to be married- but honestly- men can be the biggest dawgs -most still but "wifey" in a special category in their minds!
I understand what @itiswhatitis has been sayinng all along. Women have to stop "settling" and convincing ourselves it's o.k. Until we start being really honest with what it is we want in our relationships and not only demanding it---

she is a beautiful girl and looking at her, you would think that pahrell wouldn't mind having a bazillion babies w/ her.
BUT, who knows how this lady carries herself as a woman, friend, daughter, or potential mother. what's behind that smile??? just b/c she's pretty doesn't mean that she's wife material and we shouldn't point the finger at these rich celebrities and blame them for not wanting to marry these women they get pregant or date for waaaaay too long! we think that men aren't as serious about marriage...WRONG! they are pickier than women.

I dont think they have been together for 5 years..he was dating Jade Jagger and I dont think that was more than 5 years ago..I have to agree with Zebrahead and TMarti30..the people who are saying its no big deal for them to be together that long and still not be married especially now that shes pregnant are either young, or are babies mommas..women who say they dont care about marriage are programmed into believing this after their man constantly tells them hes not trying to marry them..she has to force herself to believe that..or she keeps dating losers who wont commit so she gives up and thinks it will never happen for her..so she makes herself believe that marriage is no big deal..these women that get with rappers and celebs dont always have the best character or judgment and just because Pharell is never in the center of controversy and isnt a thug, doesnt mean hes the best candidate to have a child with..we dont know anything personal about this man-and being filthy rich isnt a good enough reason to have a baby with him..black and latino people have to stop bringing kids into this world out of wedlock and into borken homes or potentially disasterous conditions-Example-Jay-Z and his bastard son..hes tucked away in some remote island, getting denied left and right..what kind of life is that for a child? how is his self worth going to be knowing his daddy isnt proud to introduce his son to the world? these babies mommas situations with celebs end up with the couple splitting up, the father paying a ridiculous amount in child support, and the mother not caring if the father and child have a relationship, as long as the checks are rolling in.. |
