And here's exactly what he had to say about it:

Well, his actual birthname IS Sean John Combs! Maybe that's what he meant by saying, "It's where he is right now..." He's almost 40, fathered several children and has nevered married. He wants to grow up now.
This is no different that when the "Fresh Prince" decided to become Will Smith, LL Cool J uses his birthname more and so does Ludacris.

I don't know what is wrong with this brother, where the hell does he come from that they change names every 18 months. I think he will do anything to try to keep his name out there. problem is that he sucks if not for Biggie. puffy would have been a nobody. even now, how many artis has he come out with in the last 10 years that has had more than one successful cd? danity kane, da band, black rob, dream, b5, loon? take my advice. get real. I have never been a fan of his because i dont think he has any talent. whether it is rapping singing or producing. he paid for all of his hits, either they were written by someone else( alot of you dont know this but alot of music is bought be a producer for a few thousand and then that producer owns that song and puts his name on it as the writer then collects 10 times as much in royalties ) or it was a sample from another song that already was a hit 20-30 years prior.
with that said. i think that he is an amazing businessman. to make 18 millionlast year doing a whole lot of nothing is breat business since. hate the man but a love his hustle.

It's not always about the artist, but the fact that the music industry itself has elvolved, and that's not necessarily a good thing.
"Sean", whether ppl wanna give him his props or not, is a successful, hardworking man FIRST! He has the work ethics and sacrific of a man with longevity in anything he chooses to pursue, and was always going to be successful.
He only had 2 more years of college to finish at Howard, so he was ALWAYS gonna make it one way or the other. Oh, and DEFINATELY expect someone like Sean to do an auto-biography eventually at some point in his life.

By the time most men are comfortable in their own skin, usually in their 30's, some brothas are still lookinf for validation. Alot of brothas don't become comfortable in their skin UNTIL they reach around 40.
By then, he no longer thinks you gotta be flashy, or act like a pimp to earn respect. This is evident in most of the celebrities men around his age now.

neptunes have been in the business for 15 years. dr dre for over 20 Jermaine dupree for about 15 years. clive Davis has ben in the business since puffy was in diapers. every one you said is a PRODUCER. some just so happen to be artist. but their success was not due to Puffy. Damon Dash did not make his money with Puffy at all. 50 cents either.
so tell me who has puffy signed in the last ten years that is worth mentioning, WHILE they are on the badboy label. not before or after
