B-Mac was one of the funniest comedians of all times and he is really gonna be missed by all. I tape reruns of "The Bernie Mac Show" daily (cuz I got it on season pass), although the show ended a few years back, it's still one of the funniest things on television. This drug has serious side effects but may improve lung function in some people who aren't helped by corticosteroids. More research is needed.
Pentoxifylline. This drug is an immune system suppressant. Stomach and gastrointestinal side effects are common. Early studies show that it has helped some people who have sarcoidosis in their lungs reduce their doses of prednisone while taking it. More research is needed.
Tetracycline. Tetracycline antibiotics are used to treat Lyme Disease, some types of pneumonia, and acne. A few small studies suggest that they may help in treating sarcoidosis in the skin. Research is ongoing.
Thalidomide. This immune system suppressant can cause bad side effects. It is effective against other conditions that involve granulomas of the skin (e.g., leprosy, tuberculosis). Scientists are studying this drug to see if it can be used to treat sarcoidosis in the skin. More studies are needed. |

Sarcoidosis is an autoimmune disease, your body begins to attack itself it is common in the Black community. They were trying to suppress the disease process because when it is exacerbated these patients become extremely fragile. He happened to develop pneumonia which has multiple causes but I suspect his inactivity (not moving air effectively in the lungs allows bacteria to settle in th lungs and thus pneumonia formation)+ immunosupression(sarcoidosis)= Critical situation period.
God needed another solider, it was his time and I am so happy that he had his family at his side. |

From what his sister in law is describing, according to what I read, it appears bernie mac left this world with a struggle. He died and came back for an hour and then left for good?? Wowww!!! that brother was fighting hard. This is such a sad situation. And what makes it worst, the same medication that was suposed to prevent the remission of his condition, comprimised his immune system; therefore making him re exposed, to sarcoidosis. This is just too sad to digest. It just feels like his untimely death could have been avoided. What a terrible, lost and a tragic end to the life of a special person, a family member of many, a great friend to those who new him well, and a super star on and off the set, to those who knew, loved, and admired him, not only as an entertainer but as a person. Bernie mac kept it real. He did not concede to anyone in regards to watering down who he was and what he wanted to talk about. My deepest condolescences to the Mac family, Bernie was truly one of a kind.
Sarcoidosis is no joke! My dad passed away from the same the disease and it is a wear and tear on the body. My dad's last words "I'm tired and I'm ready to go home" so to see someone you love fade away is hard. But at least we know he's in a better place and he is no longer suffering. |

SO SAD.....My aunt worked for NorthWestMormorial Hospital where Bernie passed away and told me he had been there for weeks under an alias . She said he wasn't there anymore long before they even released he was sick. Then the report came out and said he was fighting this and that he was progressing,how sad! |

First of all I want to say that I'm still hurting over this whole situation, Bernie Mac was one of my favorite comedians, the reason why is #1 he wasn't afraid to tell the truth, #2 He was very family oriented, #3 he was one of the greatest comedians that we've ever had, and #4 he never sold out or changed when he went Hollywood!!!!!
He was a true black positive man that all of our men should look up to he stayed with his wife for 30 years that's real love!!!!!
I wish we had many black men like him in this world today, so that we as black women can feel good about, it seems like they don't make black men like they used too in the old days, so many broken homes so many children being raised without their fathers!!!!!

I don't believe in mourning ppl. Let the dead rest and remember them in their happier days. I don't want to hear the details about his death, and if I could know the details of mine, I would prefer not to know. He seemed to live a happy life and we shouldn't be sad because he was actually one to accomplish his goals. He was a successful comedian and I don't know if he had children, but he was a father to his nieces and nephews. :) |

@akan5: Bernie was immobile for weeks and this exacerbates pneumonia. His lungs were probably severely scarred after 20 yrs. We can learn a lot about this disease that strikes AA more often. I have relatives dealing with it now plus an aquaintance I know.
Awww, what great memories to have of him. A loving husband, father and a succesful and decent black man. His parents raised him well. There's no negative stories to print about him.
He wrote his bio just a few years ago. Who knew?
When a popular celeb dies suddenly like Bernie, I commend his family for speaking out about what happened because so many people adored Bernie that it would've left a void if nothing was said. He was a very ill man. Many times a celeb dies and the family privately buries him and that's the end of it, yet he was shared with the world.
Bernie was tired but what a fight he put up. The comic world is tight and I'm quite sure they're in mourning too.

It's amazing, Heath Ledger & Anna Nicole Smith die and their deaths are on TV and cable non-stop. Bernie and Isaac die and you only hear about it as part of the news. I guess you have to die with drugs up your nose or a needle in your vein to get some TV exposure.

I will be going home tonight to watch The Kings of Comedy so I can remember him as he would want to be remember...hilarious as hell.
Let's talk about his humor...my favorite part of Kings of Comedy is when he was talkin' about his sister's kids....especially the little boy asking for milk and cookies. Then how he talked about the little one sizing him up like he was short. Then he told her "bust a move"! LMAO!!!
Along with his TV show...that mofo was funny as shyt and that's how I want to remember him! I will be watching that shyt tonight!

They showed scenes of Bernie on his movie sets. He was wearing portable oxygen back in '04 and was getting over pneumonia then too; he was riding around the set in a golf cart. They said he was worse by the time the Bernie Mac show was in its last year and would have to lay down and use oxygen. He was still upbeat though. No wonder his family believed he would recover. He had been ill so many times before.
I guess this time around his soul was too tired. I'll bet his memorial on Saturday will be packed, which is an understatement. It's a testament to how much he meant to so many people.
