The story D.C. police are telling is that Stanton was approached by 19-year-old Terrence Jones while she was sitting outside her home eating a hamburger. In an apparent attempt to flirt with her, Jones asked Stanton to make him a burger. When both she and her mother refused to cook him food, Jones left, then returned with a gun and shot up the house. Stanton and her mother were both shot; Stanton died, while her mother was shot in the foot and is expected to make a full recovery. The Post's story plays up the weird hamburger aspect of the shooting, but WJLA's video report makes the important point that this was really about a young man who was aggressively engaging in street harassment. They control what a man does on a date, how far the date goes, and what kind of conversation topics to discuss during the date! they can control sexual behaviors in men and in many cases other women! they are dominant in so many arenas, yet in many cases like this one, they end up a "victim"... Wow!!! This video brings back childhood memories and also the things I attempt to avoid now. I feel ol' girl that says when she sees a group she crosses the street. Here is a prime example of leveraging the white power of a good BF.My current BF told me to gain weight to get more acting roles. Now on the other hand my mother and friends can't understand that logic and wrongfully advised against it. They don't understand the business. There are a lot of good brothers out there who are married to BW. But I think their is more to some of these women's mother's than they let on. To me, going for a interracial relationship back in the day was a little like suicide, it was not a good idea, so their would be strain on the relationship. ManSeminole, I know quite a few of BM today who have produced kids with White women and left. This isn't just a back in the day thing. These are men who want to hang out on the street, sell drugs, sleep around, locked up etc. My point is, if the man isn't worth a damn, a White woman cannot/will not change that. If your argument only concerns how black men approach black women in the streets, then the solution is simple. Get with you girlfriends, and make a documentary on how black men should approach black women, or create a nonprofit organization design to re-educate black men on proper courting behavior. Keep in mind, black women will need to be re-educated as well. Can you imagine a sophisticated black man courting a hoodrat, she would laugh at him. Or, the next time a black man makes a rude advance, simply stop him and re-educate him in the manner you wish to be addressed. It may not register with every young black man, but it will register with some.
However, if your argument is that you don’t want to be approach by black men…then, the solution isn’t so clear. I don’t know what to tell you. Cultures everywhere have men chasing after a piece of a/ss. If you do not want black men to approach, perhaps you should move into an area or frequent places that very few black men attend. The truth of the matter is, we (black women) raise these men. So as black women, we have no one to blame for their behavior but ourselves. Choose better fathers for them. If daddy is not around, choose his male role models well. If you go crazy over the thug types, you are sending the message to your sons that this is the way to be. Quit treating them like little princes. Set standards for them the same as you would your daughters. Make them get up and give a lady their seat on the bus. Make them stand up and pull out your chair when you leave the dinner table. Teach them to treat women properly. It starts at home, with you. Watch what you say and do in front of them. Watch what you let them listen to, who you let them look up to. We are guilty in this too. At the end of the day, if the guys who try to approach women in such a disrespectful way never got any play, they would soon abandon this approach anyway. Many women put their bodies on display in such a bold and outrageous manner that you can hardly tell who's a streetwalker and who is not. A lot of these women have sons. You look at the avatars and user posted pics on this and any other website and black women (women in general) are showing off their "assets" as if that is all we have to offer the world. Its funny that so many of the comments were centered around looks. Why did some of the people commenting on this feel like they had to clarify that they were "nice looking"? Our sons pick up on our obsession with looks, and they carry it into the streets with them. I think we as women teach men how to treat us. We want them to respect us and value us as beings, but we don't want to date anyone that can't buy us anything. We put prices on our attention upfront (a picnic or a walk for a first date won't do), so why is it a surprise that when they buy us dinner they are expecting more from us like they would a common whore? We turn our noses up at their cars if they are not hot and flashy. For them to be employed is not enough. We run after the thugs that treat us like garbage. The issue in this documentary is the fact Black women feel unsafe around their own men because they choose to take part in disrespectful and degrading and sometimes violent behavior of Black women. I knew years before now that we were leaving the industrial age and entering the information age. Which means, we were leaving the job era and entering the sell information era. What do you see? Jobs are drying up left and right, and a well read guy like me from the hood is thriving and growing in my career!

This video has good points and bad points, I honestly think that some of the women in the video were a little extreme and overly sensitive because if a girl has a fat azz is it really disrespectful that I can't look at that azz. For the last several years, I've noticed that sisters don't speak. Many, many of my sane friends have said the same thing, over time. I am in L.A., and this is everywhere I go. I know that harassment is part of the reason, cause I see it and am disgusted by brothers' lack of respect. I remember being at the gym one day and making a point to a brother who is a major harasser(everytime he sees a woman he's attracted to, he follows them around). Why do people think that something has to happen in an extreme form in order for it to be acknowledged? A coward who throws a brick at a woman's head because she does not want to speak to him and a man who curses her out, are the same. Yes, one was more extreme but that mentality is common. You both carry a sense of entitlement and believe that you have the RIGHT to respond negatively when you do not get your way.
I live in NYC (the greatest city on earth) and people here can be QUITE rude! If I ask someone for directions and they ignore me, I simply ask someone else.
