If the biological mother is black, and the father is white but the child looks black I can't imagine that child telling people he or she is "white" just because one parent is, that would be like denying part of their DNA. The problem here is that some people claim mixed even though both of their parents are black. To go back and look in your family tree and then claim mixed because you can find non black relativs from 1865 is not the same thing as being mixed.

The problem is that some african americans will go way back in their family tree and claim mixed because they can find people who aren't african american. 99.9% of african american have some type of mix anyway so then should all of us call us mixed in the future instead of black? My son's grandmother (father side) always talked about her grandmother being british and marrying a jamaican man. Always showed pictures of her mother who looked white, but married a BLACK man. I'm not hating it's good to be proud of your ancestry, but don't diminish your African heritage. This thinking has been passed on to her children and now to my son. I'm 3/4 West African and 1/4 German. I identify as black because I lived in West Africa and now the US. I still appreciate my German ancestry but it just makes no difference in the places I have lived. Now if I was to live in Germany I would probably more than likely feel more connected and emphasize it a bit more. Afro-Cubans, Dominicans, Haitians, Jamaicans, African Americans are all black people who were migrated into various countries. There is a good chance you may just have ancestors who were migrated into other countries outside of America and Africa. It doesn't mean you are mix though. |

Personally I don't believe every black person born outside of Africa is mixed. Maybe some but not all. Africans are a diverse people and not all Africans look alike. African people can look biracial without being mixed. Africans can be light skinned, dark skinned, have different features, hair texture, etc without being mixed. African people have phenotype which can create various traits. |

The SLAVE mentality is an existence that is ENGRAINED in blacks. It's somewhat offensive to even use that term. It suggest that any memory or acknowledgment of slavery is "exaggerated" or not welcome.
Again, blacks have varying degrees of sensitivity to this issue BECAUSE of slavery. We were taught and KNOW by fact that our ancestors were raped and enslaved by whites. With that said, the notion to show PRIDE in your blackness is common place, not slave mentality.
If mixed people want to ALSO acknowledge their other50 percent, then that's fine. But for the most part...facts suggest that MOST mixed blacks identify simply as BLACK...when the chips fall. You CANNOT used the economic, employment and judicial system using 4 different races. Basic common sense suggest that you choose ONE race...so that you will appear normal, and not confused.
Why? You would be laughed at if trying to identify as white or hispanic. Depending on your pigment..it's almost never a matter of choice..but rather a force. |

I am reading these posts and thinking how stupid some people are. THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS 100% black. If you are .10% black, you are black. There is no percentage of blackness. Black by simple virtue IS mixed. The only 100% black people are full blooded Negroid people. If they have ancestors of different races They ARE mixed and they are still black. They never said they were not black They are just giving their individual genetic makeup. None of us in the US are full blooded negroid so we are indeed MIXED. Black means multi racial people with African Negroid ancestry. |
