: MediaTakeOut.com got its hands on pics of Brad and Angelina visiting New Orleans Lower Ninth Ward. They're trying to make sure that the media doesn't forget about the plight of the residents.
Did we tell you how much we love these two...
Angelina reminds me of a modern day Josephine Baker with this save the children act!
But, seems to me that she thinks black people are 2nd class citizens...why are they subconsciously catering to them? And WHY...
you know, it's cool to help out. But, this doesn't look right. idk...maybe it's just me...
she's a beautiful woman however ;-)
@antidumb I hear what you are saying but you really cannot hate on them. Until 50, Jay-z, or whatever else in the "black celebrity community" reaches out to our people as much as these 2 do, I can't help but to give them credit. They adopted a black child, which many of us black folks cannot say. And they LOVE HER. It shows. These 2 have a genuine passion for the humanitarian work that they do. There are a handful of us that are doing it to (including myself and probably you) but we are not celebrities and therefore will not get the issue brought into the public's eye like they can. I too am very frustrated that more black celebrities are not reaching out and following in the footsteps of Oprah, Wyclef, Alicia Keys etc. If they would stop buying million dollar chains and all that other bull maybe they could start saving some lives. Or maybe bottom line they just don't care. And it's really more than just making a one time donation. Use your celebrity to draw your attention to the issue to compel others to reach out...
thats great that they are still helping..a lot of people forgot about this disaster and its not really in the news anymore..so Im glad theyre still involved..its always a little weird to me when celebs are humanitarians yet spend so much money on material and trivial things..its kind of like a hypocrisy..I admire them for donating millions to the cause, but its a little weird that they spent $200,000 a week staying at the Four Seassons Hotel when they were in NYC for a month..but hey, theyre doing a lot more for our people than a lot of these damn rappers and R&B singers..they wanna brag that theyre from Ghettos but never wanna help and get down with the nitty gritty..thats sad
What's up Lala Homie??....LOL I am a native of New Orleans as well...@ Antidumb, I'm always scrolling through just to see your opinion on some of these topics because you're usually on point with your comments (Sort of like a tough love mother) but I have to admit I partially agree with you on this topic. You're basically saying that they're are no genuinely kind, considerate white people in existence and I refuse to believe that....That's like them saying we don't have no honest, educated black people and we all know that's not true.....
@antidumb, I see where u are coming from but I will give them credit because both of them are well known already and I do not think they need the camera around them all the time to sell their movies.I do respect ur take on this cos we have seen this a lot of time where all these so called stars take advantage of tragedy to promote the dying star status. I do not think blacks here need help because blacks here have more opportunities than most blacks anywhere else, the problem is that we have lost focus and there is absolutely no family values. A friend of mine idea of giving his child what he never had is dressing him in gucci brand from head 2 toe and I asked him if he has college fund and his answer was "No ain't worried about that he is going to figure it out" keep in mind he never attended college but he felt like the best thing for his son is designer clothings, I can understand you run into things like that at discount store but if u are paying $500 for a 4 year old shoes and u are trying to make ends meet well, something is wrong. The truth to the matter is that you have a lot of us that have raised their level of conciousness and are trying their best to plan for their kids and those are the ones that need help in my opinion.I stopped making excuses a while ago and the future is looking good. Like great BOB MARLEY said " EMANCIPATE YOURSELVES FROM MENTAL SLAVERY NONE BUT OURSELVES CAN FREE OUR MINDS".
Please! If I were Angelina I would be in charity overdrive too. Especially considering how she did interviews completely denying that she and Brad were anything more than co-stars. How she went on and on about how offended she was that someone would accuse her of sleeping with someone elses husband. She would never do something like that and then giving birth to his child less than a year later. Yeah if I were on the verge of being nominated as homewrecker of the century I would want to clean up my image too. Especially when already holding the title of druggie, slut, psycho, incestor, etc. But then again maybe its just completely out of the goodness of their heart. But one cannot ignore the need to create a better image since they both looked pretty bad after that whole incident with Brad and Jen. NOT to be negative but lets not ignore the facts.
I don't care for Liberal Whites that much, they don't look into a situation they are simply a bandage over a bruise. They mean well, but they rarely solve any problems. Sometimes they cuddle our race and make things worst, like sending a message of "poor baby, it's not your fault". We don't need that. -------------------------------
@Antidumb
I'm with you today!
They should have both been in New Orleans "before" Katrina!!!
Right now, I'm at the point where everything is all about money and politics. Who knows what they are getting out of this. I'm sure the attention and publicity is enough...b/c some celebrities get a rise out of that over money!
And how do we know who's doing what in what community. If I wouldn't have popped up on MTO, I would have never know these two actually made it to New Orleans! I think they mentioned it on TV. But, that's besides the point. There is a countless number of black people who give to their people. But, you probably just didn't get that memo b/c who cares about two black people coming together and helping one another. Just like white on black crime, there is no coverage unless it has something to do with Al Sharpton coming out of the woodworks. Regardless of the situation, we are always coming off as the needy, unfortunate ones at the end of the day! And that is s[SPAM] not the truth!
You can only buy so many tubes of toothpaste and bags of groceries for needy families. Help them go to college! Help them get a job, but STOP passifying and accepting black plight. It's not cute!!!!!!!! And I know Angie and her husband mean well, but I'm afraid this is pastime for them. Until I hear about something other than hand-outs, then um, I won't be impressed! Money is not the cure for everything!
SORRY*
And the Brangelina comments let's me further know who's in the box and who isn't!!!!
how can yall [EXPLETIVE] here and ridicule a couple who is trying to help out. yes there didn't live in no but they live there now. not for sympathy but because they wanna help. who cares that they don't COMPLETELY understand the ''black plight''. half of us don't understand it. no one is looking for the white savior but where are the wealthy black ppl at? they aren't walking around no helping and saving OUR children. who cares if their reason for doing this is because of the media exposure. at the end of the day the residents of no will be spending brad and angs money helping the city. everything is not about black in white. instead of harassing genuine ppl trying to do genuine things lets talk about OUR brothers and sisters who are killing each other on a daily basis. how no resident lil wayne threated to kill babies. why african american women have the highest number of new cases of hiv. we need to encourage our ppl to help as well
@sio07050, Is this ur pic for real? cos u do not seem old but it looks like u are completely aware. U made a very good point on the issue of black celebs, we all know NBA PLAYER DIKEMBE MUTOMBO from Congo. He built a $45,000,000 hospital in his country, half of the money was his but he started off taking some NBA players to his country every off season just for them to see what is going on and after a while he went to all of them and told them what he was planing to do and he raised money from there. So the question remains why the black celebs are still reluctant to take charge in a situation like this? they will donate their money but will not take charge, what Brad and the wife are doing is taking charge and whether or not they are doing it for something else is inconsequential at this point. All these so-called rappers like that retard lil wimp always yaping about he is from new orleans but he is living comfortabily in Miami or Atl somwhere. Like i said before, blacks in America do not need help, we just need to separate NEED from WANT and that is ECONOMICS 101. @plug, that was funny.
IT GOOD TO SEE THEM FINALLY DOING SOMETHING FOR THE U.S. BUT IT'S ASHAME THAT ALL THESE BLACK MILLIONAIRE ATHLETES AND RAPPERS BUYING UP ALL THIS BLING AND CARS OH AND LETS NOT FOR GET HOW THAT BUY THE BAR OUT AT CLUBS BUT GETTING BACK TO MY COMMENT...IT'S ASHAME THAT THEY ALL CAN'T GET TOGETHER AND DO SOMETHING...BUT THEN AGAING HALF OF THEY SORRY A*S*S CAN'T EVEN PAY THEIR CHILD SUPPORT!!! SAD!!!
To all the people with the negative comments about these two what are you doing for the cause? C'mon now...Brad and Angelina don't have to do shyt but they choose to...and thank God that at least 1man is doing the work of a so called government. Props to Oprah as well and all that she has done. Man...folks just like crucifying folk. Everbody got something to say but no one is doing nothing.
I understand everyones point..I think some people are frustrated that our own people arent really trying to dig deep in their pockets, and other people are annoyed that our people who have been helping dont get news coverage for it, so it seems like we're not doing anything for our own when in fact, we're just not getting credit for it..Brad and Angelina want to get press for it because they are Hollywood stars and at the end of the day, no matter how much they care, they have egos..so they want the world to know about their good deeds and they want it recorded..their people make sure there are cameras and journalists present to record everything and to report it..its sad that every day people like social workers, law enforcement, the fire department and volunteers dont get the praise and news coverage of their generous efforts..its nice that Brad and Angelina want to help, but I think they also do it for vanity reasons..next week theyre going to be in Pakistan giving to the refugees there..so you have to wonder how much is genuine and how much is for image
plus lets not forget, Angelina wants to maintain a humanitarian image to help her adopt more children in the future..she made it clear that she wants to adopt more kids..shes not married, shes an actress, she was a homewrecker and had past issues with drugs and psychological problems, her past is very shady and she doesnt seem like the best candidate for adopting kids..so she wants to portray this Mother Theresa image so that no adoption agency would want to reject her..thats just my opinion
I have nothing but good things to say about them because they have put forth an effort to give back where it's needed most & I have yet to see any black celebrities other than Oprah, Alicia Keys & Wyclef give back in such a positive way. It's not just a white/black thing, but if you have enough $$$ to have these $50,000 chains & grills then you should be giving back to support your own because once that $$$ & fame is gone, all you'll be remembered for is material things
I just luv Brad Pitt & Angelina Jolie. I like what they are doing for the less fortunate. And the fact that they are sincere, and not doing it as a hollywood fad or for publicity. They both seem to really care about people not just in this country but all over the world. And they pour alot of their resources into countries were the typical white person with money & fame would never go, let alone help. I want to commend them for that. They both are single handedly putting our goverment to shame with the whole Katrina-New Orleans situation, just my opinion.
To Lockstress, I totally agree. Neither one has to do anything, they choose to. Both had money & fame before this, so them using it for publicity doesn't mean anything. They already had that long before they got together. Now as far as how she got Brad, we don;t know what went on behind closed doors. But I highly doubt if jennifer aniston would be doing anything for people that are less fortunate. As a matter of fact I know she wouldn't. She is the typiocal upper class who probably would give 2 fuks about people of color, or people who are impoverished. That my belief. Angelina has a past, but she has made it clear that she wanted her life to mean something, and that was one of the reasons her a Billy Bob broke up, because she wanted to take on a new meaniful path for her life, he didn't want that. Now I don't agree with the circumstances surrounding how they got together, but like I said we don't know the details, we only go on what the media puts out there, truth or not.
Sometimes we are so hypocritical. We mad about Jena and then we hating cause white folks taking their money, time and energy and putting it into a community that other than just moving down there, they have no real ties to. What's with that? How about doing more than just making a song about it and putting it on a CD for "us" to buy to fatten your pockets and album sells? I'm not mad at them in the slightest but sometimes we need to step back and look at how racist we are before we get heated at things like Jena. Real talk...
I love Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. They put their money where their mouth is. Neither has anything to gain from helping people in the 9th war but they do it anyway. They were already famous they had nothing to gain from adopting any children but they did anyway. So they have my respect. How can you be mad about their efforts? I guess its easier to start schools in Africa but when your people in America are suffering. Its always easier to clean up others backyard then your own. I am happy Brad decided to do something. While everybody is talking about it he is using his celebrity for good at home. The 9th ward needs schools and books and attention and at least someone is giving it to them. Since Black Hollywood loves to copy white Hollywood maybe they will get a lot more involved for people in America.
what up people....
uh let's see...I didn't read where these 2 "gave back" monetarily...looks like a mere photo op If you ask me, Angelina wants to be black with her fake ass lips...so all you silly negroes who thinks she so damn beautiful have inferiority complexes...
hip-hop artists like David Banner and Master P did a lot for Katrina and THAT means more to me than some "aaaww let's go see what the little [EXPLETIVE]' plight is in NO photo op day [EXPLETIVE]"
They just get more coverage than rappers....hell I'm in Cali and sent clothes and shoes down there for Katrina just like a lot of regular people did...so somebody post where they wrote a check and I'll humbly correct myself..If not you silly negro-minded slaves up here getting warm fuzzies are pathetic!
OK granted Angelina's "image" has been tarnished over the years, but may I ask this? Yes I may. Why is that we are so obsessed with how celebs Images are!? Just because people see her as a home wrecker that means we can't accept her when she does charity work!? Nobody is perfect NOBODY and if you were all in the public eye I'm sure there are SOME THINGS you have done that the "PUBLIC" would not approve of but I would think you would want to be appreciated for the work you do and not the mistakes you made as a human being. Like it has been said before they dont have to do a damn thing but sit on they ass and enjoy their riches like the rest of these damn celebs but you always see them out either helping people or spending time with their kids. Not like SOME FOLKS constantly on vacation on they yachts or out shopping not thinking about the TRULY NEEDY. WHTIE OR BLACK they are helping and I think it's sincere. You can have your opinions but you should be happy someone is trying to help out down there. If I had the money I would but hell I can barely help my self some days!
LOL DO you people read first or Do you just make comments to try to sound intelligent.
Brad Pitt donated $5 million and brought in Architects because he choose to do something and not live in unrealistic theories. Its still a lot more that needs to be done so all the people on here posting all that nonsense what are you doing? What are you contributing? My community sponsored four families from the disaster areas and helped students go to school at our local colleges. What did you do? OH nothing probably just typing on the computer about what black people should be doing? All talk & no action. These threads are so sad, full of empty headed opinions and people too busy putting up pathetic and desperate looking photos. If thats any representation (which I hope not) of the majority of the black community then no wonder why its in the state its in. I am happy somebody is doing something.
He just want people to think he is so nice and forget about what a dog he was for leaving Jen for Angelina. Now he is a Saint! He can give his money all he wants...He is still slime!!!! Angelina been screwed up for the longest time...Stealing countless men...Kissing her own bother like her man (who knows what they do off the camara). Both of them make me sick!
I would feel different if they never did anything that could be referenced to as "charitable" work. But, they do. Angelina definitely has not cared what people said about her and takes stands on trying to help out where she can. Even if she and Brad gave up every dime they had, it wouldn't be enough to combat the needs of this world. I feel they are doing a pretty good job of giving back. They are not all dressed up and acting like they are better than the people they help. The small amount of footage they have gotten in New Orleans shows them talking witht he residents, spending time with them, rocking babies to sleep, reading to them, feeding them and the list goes on and on. The biggest thing they are doing is showing that they CARE!!! Honestly, more celebrities of all races need to follow their lead. Somebody had to step out there after all the coverage had faded. As long as our people are getting help, I am all for it. This is not a publicity stunt for them...they actually live this and that's the DIFFERENCE!
