: Is there trouble in paradise? MediaTakeOut.com got its hands on a recent interview given by Janet Jackson where she subtly criticizes Jermaine Dupri for not helping her with her album. Here's what she said:
Interviewer:You’ve moved to Island Records and you’re working on your new album with your boyfriend, Jermaine Dupri. Since you and Jermaine live together and work together, is it difficult?Jermaine, you better watch your girl. She may be laughing on the outside, but on the inside....Janet Jackson:No, from my perspective it’s not. But you’d have to ask him for his perspective, if I’m difficult [laughs] – I don’t think I am! I think there’s such a thing as being a team player with whatever it is you’re doing, and granted it’s your career, so you should have a final say, but still it’s about a team effort and you could never do it alone.
But if there is something that we both feel differently about, it just should really be talked about and that’s the way we’ve always done it. Except this time around I see Usher and Mariah [Carey] coming out of the studio and I say, “Okay, wait, aren’t you supposed to be working on my stuff? We’re supposed to be doing our stuff together.” And he goes, “Well yeah,” and I’m like, “Why are they here, don’t I come before them when it’s time for the album to be released?”
Not because I’m his girlfriend [laughs], but for the release of the album. Mine has to be released first, so doesn’t it make sense to get me out of the way first? But it’s all good.
Wow #3, Not bad The reality is they all probably have material and have been in the lab prior to her. Usher is goinhg to be of some intrest because of all the controversy. Mariah had a hot last album. Janet will take it in stride, but her material and her show needs to mature at this point. She need to take a nother direction and have something hot but a departure from her norm.
usher can sing AND dance and mimi can sing and had the best album in 2006. jermaine resurected her carrer from the dead so EVERYBODY is waiting to see if lightning strikes twice with her and jermaine collaborating.
on the other hand EVERYBODY knows what a disaster janet's album with jermaine was and is in NO HURRY to hear anything else they collaborate on. they need to get married and she should just RETIRE. she been working since she was 5.
Mariah has more marketability than janet right now. Janet came out with that 20yrs old garbage so she has to wait. Mariah is gonna sell hellas in the first week because she has been keeping people waiting. Janet saw what he did to her last CD----> totally garbage. She needs to go back to the basics (Terry Lewis & Jimmy Jam). Also, keep her personal life hidden. She lost alot of respect when we found out she was involved with JD. That just went to show that she was just a rich-hood bytch, nothing special at all (no more fantasizing). But then again, JD grew up rich also. Don't let the tattoos fool ya'.
The reason why Jermaine is pushing they albums first (if this is true) is because they can sing. Janet's last good album was the velvet rope and that was 99 years ago. She just needs to accept the fact that in the end, talent will always win. When you get old and haggard and can no longer rely on your looks to sell an album that's pretty much what happens. She needs to stop being a cry baby. I love Janet but she can't sing and her albums have been bad lately. Maybe she should try somethng else

Her last cd was fire you hating bitches. Some of you guys are bandwagon jumpers, probably didn't even hear but 1 or 2 songs off the cd but calling it garbage. Janet is and always will be a legend. When you pass and leave this earth, who's gonna remember you, probably nobody.
Work relationships like this usually don't work. Janet needs to be independent of him. His style is way different than hers. Be boyfriend/girlfriend and leave that career stuff separate. Janet is talented and needs to go back with the people she had before. She can be another legend like Aretha, Patti & Gladys but you must keep a good team of producers. Beyonce is headed toward legend land too due to her father.
I heard Janet on the radio the other day saying she loves "baby making" songs. Aren't we tired of hearing a 40+ year old woman talking about wanting a baby? Either you put that first at your age or it's not going to happen. It almost seems like a farce now.
Jermaine loves Janet, I'm sure, but he ain't crazy. He didn't get where he is today making bad business decisions.
Janet's my girl, but sub-par sales from her 3 previously released albums may have effected Jermaine putting her on the back burner, especially since he was partly responsible for that last project not doing so well.

I think Janet needs to go back to Jimmy & Terry and let them create a more mature album for her. Those are the best producers in the game! Legends. They were with her from the start of her career. Mariah and Usher have brought Jermain the most success. He meshes well with them. No matter if a few of Mariah's past albums didn't sell up to standards, the songs that they did together on those records were still great. They've been working together since 1994.
Or Jermain needs to give Janet more mature songs. Take it back to the Janet album or the "I Get So Lonely," Janet. Go back to doing some real R&B. But that's when she was with Jimmy & Terry. But he can do that for her to. He's a good writer.
But I don't think that she would say all of that in a interview. She seems a bit too private to be saying all of that in an interview. I've read some of hers before and I haven't seen anything that forthcoming. She's not an attention seeker, she doesn't have to be. People will always be curious about her. So I'm not sure if I believe that one.

Where is this "interview"? The last interview I heard from Janet was the one where she said that Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis would be doing her ENTIRE ALBUM. Also that the only capacity JD would be working in, is as label head.

Although I'm sure you've taken an actual interview and "filled in" what might have been otherwise inferred, I do believe Janet wants him to get to work on her album because she knows how much work it's going to take WHEN HER RECORDS HAVE TO BE ESSENTIALLY PIECED TOGETHER, WIRED AS ONE MIGHT SOME DOORBELL. He works best with Usher and Mariah because THEY CAN SING. You need to work on mine a little harder and once I'm out the way, move to the next one and then the next. He needs to give Usher and Mariah 25% and Janet 75% until her project is through. Next, Mariah or Usher should get 25% of his time and the next in line to be relased 75% of his time to ensure everyone was given the same production consideration. Yea Janet is a legend and most of us love her...but no one is really checkin for her anymore...it's evident in record sales for her last few albums. If this situation is accurate, Jermaine is strictly doing business. He knows that no one is checkin for Janet and everyone is checkin for a new Usher and Mariah album right now. So it makes absolute sense to work on them right now, get their music out and work with Janet. He will have the time and the money to work with Janet
