: We're hearing some crazy talk coming out of Def Jam's offices this week. According to one of MediaTakeOut.com's trusted insiders, the top label is actually considering dropping Nas.
According to our insider, the trouble is over the naming of Nas' new album. You see, Nas is refusing to change the name of his new album (which is tentatively called, the N-Word) - and that has the label's top brass furious. The insider told MediaTakeOut.com, "There is no way that we can put out an album with that title. Many retailers have already told us - flat out - that they won't carry [an album with that title] ... Nas' last album [Hip Hop Is Dead] sold pretty well, but not well enough for the headache he's causing [the label]."
And there's more. Our insider claims that there should be an announcement coming from the label this week. The insider told MediaTakeOut.com, "If Nas doesn't change his mind, he'll be dropped. And he doesn't have to much time to come to that realization."
Check back guys. We should have more on this story later today...
Well I am confident that if this infact happens between Nas and Def Jam that he will find his place and home as a very talented and ecletic artist... at another label!
The persona I recieve from Nas is that he will remain in his class and will not be shook by some big wigs who's more focused on the money than the creative value of the artist.
Nas you've made your mark! and I'll always be a fan. :-)
I hope nobody is surprised by anything those people do to our artist. Jay-Z got played. They used him to sign up a whole bunch of new artist, then showed his black behind the door. We need our own record companies and cut the other man out and focus on the brother man. These people don't care what happens to our music.
@ jayyyyy I like that name better I Like NAS to but sometimes you have to want change in order for this thing to work (the death of the *** word) Why is he being so difficult and he will lose money in the end because a lot of stores like walmart Target or Best buy won't carry his album what about the small citys that only has one walmart then what? He's only hurting himself.
HES DUMB ONCE HE CANT SUCK JAYZ OFF HE GONNA BE AS WASHED AS THE REST 4 TRYNA NAME A ALBUM *** DONT HE KNO WE AT A POINT AND TYME WHERE EVERYONE DOESNT WANNA HEAR *** SO WHO WOULD BUY A ALBUM NAMED *** WHITES NOW HOW DOES THAT SOUND NAS UR A A-HOLE 4REAL WHAT EVA HAPPEN TO I AM OR ILL MATIC NOW ITS *** HE`S A CLOWN JUST PUT KELIS HUSBAND ON THE TITLE AN CALL IT A DAY......... www.myspace.com/dot171 www.myspace.com/dot171 www.myspace.com/dot171 www.myspace.com/dot171 www.myspace.com/dot171 www.myspace.com/dot171 www.myspace.com/dot171 www.myspace.com/dot171 www.myspace.com/dot171 www.myspace.com/dot171 www.myspace.com/dot171 www.myspace.com/dot171
I stand behind Nas but I see where the Label is coming from. I hope he changes the title. I was looking forward to that album. Come on Nas. This is a battle you are just not going to win. What label is going to put out an album that retail stores have warned they won't carry? Think about this one Nas!!
GOOD POST THIS MORNING MTO!! *** NAS WILL NOT SELL 1M COPIES AND HE WONT GET VERY MANY RINGTONES WITH A ALBUIM CALL N*GGER SO HE IS GOING TO GET DROPPED....
SAD THIS DAY HOW BOOTLEGING CD AND DUMB *** RING TONES HAS CHANGE RAP... *** I BET NAS CD WILL BE TIGHT .. BUT IF HE DONT HAVE A SONG CALL " CRANK DAT N*GGER, PROB WONT BREAK 700K COPIES...LOL
JUST KEEPING IT REAL .............
Hip Hop is not dead because of the bootleggers and down loading.
It's dead because of the QUALITY of the product.
People were making cassette tapes back in the day, sharing albums and taping songs off the radio. This is nothing new.
They just want to blame it on technology - when the real story is ---- ANYBODY - can make an album these days ---- the the stuff they are calling "hot", is just that a HOT MESS.
What happend to "show business"?
Now performers are working the stage in their street clothes. No showmanship, no style. The lyrics of the song - don't inspire you to fall in love or go out and enjoy your life.
Albums used to comeout and everything woulkd be a hit on the album. They had a hard time picking which one to play on the radio first. Now, you get the one (1), song and the rest is "filler". And that one song --- isn't even good.
It cost the record labels too much money, to keep this "throw it at the wall and see what sticks", marketing strategy.
antidumb...... Check out a WORLD RENOWNED SCHOLAR by the name of Francis Cress Welsing. She is one of the few african american psych scholars, and social historians. Very well respected although controversial. She has NUMEROUS research articles on the fear of the impotance of white men as it relates to black men and racism. She argues that alot of social hatred towards blackmen lies in the oppressors facination and fear of the black mans reproduction. Very interesting and has won critical acclaim for her work. OBVIOUSLY Nas is drawing from her countless books. Could it be that he reads the *** you dont and chooses to articulate it to a target audience you know *** about! know what you talking about before you are so quick to bump your gums. You make YOURSELF sound like a *** when trying to sound so important. Im just saying!
Nas ain't stupid. HE WANTS to get fired so he can do his own thing and not be obligated to something WACK. It's basically the same ISH that PRINCE did when wanting out of Warner Brothers. He started writing slave on his face and all. JUST when Nas leaves WATCH the banger that comes OUT.
He ain't DUMB. Now if DJ wanted to cut off their nose despite their face then DON'T drop him, LET him put it out with THAT title, DON'T promote it and nobody will carry it,therefore FURTHER ruining NAS' career.
If this is true, then it's such a shame. Nas is a purely genius writer, and I love all his work. He's very consciencious and tries to uplift his people, and bring light to the 'unpopular/not as commercially acceptable', but very true struggles that we have everyday.
Hopefully he won't let the man change him for a few dollars, and release his album independently.
Def Jam doesn't market too well anyway, so I don't see why he can't afford a few low budget videos and try to promote his sh!t himself.
Black people need to rise above the mentality that we have to work for the white man. Be our own bosses, and that's the only way we'll change people's perception about us. Otherwise, we have people like LA Reid, Bob Johnson, MTV, etc. showcasing our negative attributes through garbage shows like College Hill & Flavor of Love.
When we we learn I ask.
p.s....*** mending race relations. what you want him to do hold hand with the klan and sing KUMBAYAH?? Dont push you agenda on others. What Nas is trying to do is wake street dudes up to say look why ya'll fighting with each other take a look at who the real enemy is. Take it or let it alone. If you don't agree with his approach thats ya business but stop trying to tell people how and what direction they should take as a artistand who they should talk to. If you wanna do the unity thing WRITE YOUR OWN *** BOOK OR SING YOUR OWN *** SONGS. If you don't like his don't buy the *** and STFU!
last comment at antidumb...as usual! speaks the truth...... YOU SPOKE THE TRUTH!!!!!!!!!! Folks big upping these record companies like they took a stand on the side of rightousness by dropping dude for the name of his album. They took a stand on the side of idolotry of MONEY! period. Like you said a artist can say NI$@$ 300X PER ALBUM but oh LAWD it's just too much to name the album that. WAKE THE *** UP BLACK PEOPLE!
sexy chocolate......to answer you question I don't know exactly WHAT nas is going to say on this last album but if PRECEDENT prevails he is a sociallly and politically CONSCIOUS artist so Im almost for certain he will be making a point. Besides he already said that he was in the interviews he's had so far.
He should be dropped. How arrogant of him to name an album the *** word. Too many black men and women died hearing that word as their last word. And because he feels it is relevant he can name an album that so he can make more money to spend and NOT reinvest in the Black Community. And I am a NAS fan.
And shame on my people for supporting him. This man is a multi-millionaire, most of us struggle just to pay all of our bills. And we support him by buying his album. We didn't choose our race or color, we were born this way, born into world that hates us for something none of us could choose.
MY PICTURE IS A WHITE PERSON, BUT I AM NOT WHITE (thank GOD),
cosign W/ truebahimian when will we learn?????? when we start to focus our energy and emotion on some REAL *** and stop caring so much about a word!
the truth....just a question (Im not disrespecting just asking) Do you ever think that there will NOT be racism? Not what should be, but realistically? With that do you think that the word spic, ***, cracka, honkey, ***, ***, ect will ever cease to exist? (especially if there will always be racist?) So why so much energy just on the word ni$%@a? Don't you think it's more logical to say as black people that it's just a WORD, a hatful, dispicable, racially charged but none the less WORD and treat it as such? Meaning when we cease to give it power by reacting over it it will cease to controll us!
I like Nas, but I cant agree with that title. I can only see that heading to disaster. Somehow I get feeling that he thinks hes making a statement. Its a real sad reality when we HELP our oppressors. Those who label themselves are treated as such. It gets no simpler than that. Whatever creative way hes trying to express himself will be lost to the masses. They will see him as what he calls himself A ***/I/G/G/A.
WAKEUP NAS IF YOU ARE SUPPOSED TO BE A REAL VOICE OF HIP HOP OR OF OUR PEOPLE YOU HAVE GOT TO DO BETTER THAN THAT. YOURE JUST MAKING IT OK TO VOICE HATE. IS OK FOR FOLKS TO CALL YOU THAT WHEN YOU PUT YOUR FACE ON A CD TITLED SO
sorry Nas cant ride with u on this one that shi.t aint deep
Yes it's true HIP HOP is dead. ans in my opinion it's dead for a numerous of reason and one is a radio. I don't have to buy an albulm because I can flip throught the stations and listen to the songs any time and anyday. I can learn the lyrics by just listening to the radio and TV advertised program. Yes, I said it and it's so true Hip Hop just doesn't sell like it once did. And naming an albulm is one way for it not to sell. I like Nas but I also thought that Nas was better than this. Ni#gger *** be a title of an albulm, regardless how many times you say it. Naming an albulm this really shows ignorance.
antidumb......last comment at you sweetie... MLK and a host of others tried the love your enemy stuff already! Stevie and Paul already recorded ebony and ivory. Frederick Douglass SAID ALL WE WANT IS PEACE AND A CHANCE....DID THAT STOP FOLKS FROM SWINGING HIS BROTHERS AND SISTERS FROM TREES? Point is Im all for the unity thing but I also know what we are dealing with. We as blacks need to unify with each other before we even need to think about holding hands with a white man who has historically played the part of satan to the world...period! Again...if peace and love is YOUR agenda do that and many blessings to you as you try. If nas wanna call devils out for being devils....many blessings to him as he tries!
Nas is obviously trying to pull off some thought provoking *** with this title of his. I don't think he should drop the title if he feels that strong about it but if it's gonna make him lose money I don't know. Money ain't everything especially if you already have it so I think if I were in Nas position I'd probably tell them to kiss my ***. I ain't changing ***. If you let them change the name of your album then hip hop is dead foreal.
@ Mssugahoneyicetea you stated "This man is a multi-millionaire, most of us struggle just to pay all of our bills. And we support him by buying his album" I have to agree with antidumb "They took a stand on the side of idolotry of MONEY! period. Like you said a artist can say NI$@$ 300X PER ALBUM but oh LAWD it's just too much to name the album that" What the difference if yur buying 50, Jigga or ay artist that use the word *** its the same song different tune
So you telling me that record stores and what not can carry 50 cents album saying "*** this" "kill that" "*** that n*gga up", but nas raises a good stance on using the word for his album and people take offense to it!!!
People Grow up, how are we goign to become numb to such a dumb *** word if we cannt express ourselevs to it. It would be a better solution to show white people, LOOK YT, this word doesnt hurt me....
Amen Crslex! That is what I don't understand, but we all know people like 50 is paid to bring our race down with garbage music, think about it, he is who he is because he got *** a whole bunch of times, lol, and people who are actually speaking about something, Mos Def, Ludacris (has stepped his game up tremondously), Talib, roots, etc they can't even get no where, I was so happy when Common finally made his mark!
oh my lmao at biglbackrob!!!

so on point!
So what NAS fell off anyway....Maybe this wil re-energize to put out quality music. last album was trash............NAS is confused. he does not know what he wants to be. one minute he is dropping knowledge. next he is a gangster, next he is a player......*** make up your mind first. or just get back to illmatic...the Def Jam move was stupid. how you going to join forces with the *** who slept with your baby Momma. that aint gangsta!!!!!!!!!!!sorry next...
Big Mistake Def Jam, Nas is one of the best hip hop artists out there today without having his lyrical content being about big butts & "I get money" on every record...On second thought maybe he's better off without them, When one door closes a bigger & better one opens for the Clean Hearted.

speaksdatruth you hit it right on the head. All yall sound ignorant. These albums that come out cant go one song with out using the ***-word. Now u wanna stone Nas cause he wanna name his album the ***-word. Give me a break! U that if he is going to name his album that, there has got to be a message behind it. Nas is a deep brother in a time where music is so shallow. Not only that but half yall probably just got done sayin the ***-word. I cant go anywhere there are blacks and not hear that word. It doesnt matter where u are or what race is around u gonna hear some ignorant *** using that word. So to sit here and get on Nas because he's trying to use it to relay his message is totally wrong. Oh and pretty sure that if Def Jam do drop him it wont hurt him. People always think he puttin out albums cause he gotta eat. But see thats where u wrong about Nas. He do it to rep that real hiphop that only a few is still reppin. Dude already made his paper. Anybody can make ringtone rap. But everybody cant make real hiphop. Chew on that for a minute...
What is the world missing when it comes to the title of this album? The album is going to be of some value for us to understand. Why not pick "***" to be title, rappers use this through out songs anyway. That is stupid to pass judgement on other human being just because they have the *** to say what's on their mind. Maybe it's the people that are quiet and close mind that are the stupid one's. Love you for life NAS.
Yall actin like Nas created the ***-word. Fix these little ignorant brothers thats makin this brown paper bag, im so hood, *** first. They the ones putttin out all these black stereotypes. Everybody aint hood, and everybody aint a duffle bag SLAVE. This is what they play on the radio. But we dont have articles about it. They promote negative lifestyles for young black boys to follow and no one has a problem with it. But we want to jump all over Nas, and i'm sure he got a meaning behind his. Did not Tupac come out with an album yrs ago called Strictly for My ***!gg@s? People get real. I hope he put his album out. I aint went to the record store in yrs. But if he put it out I will go by 5 copies...
raythedamager: what do you want them to rap about? they are rapping about their life, they are hood, and if you can't relate then don't tune in, lol
everyone is a critic or a philosopher or expert on a topic, especially hood topics, it's always the ones who can't relate that has something to say or criticize
yall should listen to anti dumb, she knows what she is talking about. Iwill take her name off the negative bitter comment. Nas should stop using the Nicca word and lead by example. blacks sure suffer from a chronic case of self hatred. You all love to use the word nicca and when other people start using it you want to cry foul. What a double standard, you have been desensitized, and boy, are you guys behaving like ignorant ***.lol. I get paid to come on this site and every other site, i have to be on top of all the topics and by far this is the most biased and critical, and hypocritical.Especially amongst women.Yall cannot stand someone who looks better than yall and I hear you finding fault, like it matters.A negroe is a negroe in the eyes of the MAN. HA HA HA HA HA DRINK UP AND HUSH. truth hurts.
Nas has been whack for years now...Every since he started trying to be a positive role model with his lyrics instead of being the Kat that thrilled us with ILLMATIC!!!!....Don't get me wrong, LYRICALLY there are not to much better than Nas but his songs just don't carry that same UMPH that it used too....He is WHACK NOW!!!!!!!....
we can have this argument one thousand times but at the end of the day Nas will do what he wants even if Def Jam does drop him!!! I just hope that all of you that are against him naming his album *** I G G A, don't listen, support or buy any music in which *** I G G A is said in the lyrics bc then you would be a HYPOCRITE, right??
wait a minute, I thought the suits @ Def Jam had Nas' back on this album title? oh wait, that's when Jay was President.
everybody needs 2 stop ACTING offended, I'm sure by now that everybody is familiar with Nas & what he stands 4, do U really think this brother is gonna name an album the ***-Word & portray that mentality, I honestly believe Nas is trying 2 wake U ***!99as up 2 come out of that mindstate, I swear 85% of people who listen 2 this ***, because it ain't Hip Hop, must like being told 2 listen 2.
@ sosincere, ramsey09 & raythedamager,
Co-Sign 100%
P.S. Fcuk Def Jam, they used 2 be a REAL Hip Hop label
if NAS should stop using the Nicca word and lead by example then I think we should be pointing fingers at more the just NAS, MAKE sure you turn the finger at yourself. There are WAY WAY more things in this life than a *** word. WHAT about when our black brothers is calling black sisters ***$ and H0E$ then we sisters calling our black brothers dogg a$$ ***. Start with yourself and those around you to set an example and maybe the world will become a better place
I'm sorry but I have never been offended by ANYONE using the *** word even Cramer....lol....Because I don NOT consider myself a ***!!!!!.....But, at the same time I am a ignorant azz dude and this I know....So the TRUE meaning of the word is a ignorant person and that I am and can be but, the derogatory meaning that is suppose to be for Black people, I don't identify with....A white person can say ***, ***, *** all day but I would never be offended because I know they would NOT be talking to me....Now on the other hand, if you look me in my face and flat out CALL me a *** then we have problems because you would be DIRECTLY labeling me personally and for that I would break your *** jaw!!!!!!!!
NAS is a BIG enough artist who has and can gather ENOUGH support for him to go and get that INDEPENDENT money!!!!! *** these LABELS...who continues to keep us "labeled". NAS KNOWS he doesn't NEED the labels. Honestly, I'm starting to think ole dude is lazy and likes being fronted the dough...not having to grind so much anymore. STOP being so comfortable and GET TO IT...MR. JONES!!!!!!!!
@Micaii
No sweety that is not is not their life. These guys r millionares. They dont have to be in the street anymore. Nas is not the whole problem, and I will not pass judgment until I hear what point he's tryin to get across with this album. Sure he could make some ringtone rap like these other cats but whats the point. Hiphop is dead and ringtone rap took its place...
@HIPHOPFAN:
YOU ARE RIGHT HOWEVER I DONT THINK HE HAS THAT THIRST FOR MONEY AND *** LIKE THE REST OF THESE CLOWNS.. HE DOES THIS MUSIC THING BECAUSE ITS IN HIS HEART .. HE COULD BE DOING ANYTHING ELSE IN THE WORLD THAT HE WANTS LISTENING TO HIS MUSIC YOU CAN TELL HOW INCREDIBLY INTELLIGENT HE IS!!
DEF JAM OR NOT I WILL CONTINUE TO SUPPORT HIM BECAUSE HE IS MY FAVORITE RAPPER OF ALL TIME..I REALLY WISH HE WOULD HAVE A CONCERT AT RADIO CITY OR THE GARDEN OR SOMETHING.. JUST HIM NO GUEST APPEARENCES!
Whatever,
Def Jhaham doesnt pay anyway. I was with Def Jhaham for 4 years and they kept promising me to let me headline shows, but always backed out on their promise. And it all got worse when the Camel didnt know his place.
You are better off without them. And when your gold diggin Kellis disappears.. I'll still be here. Must be nice.
oh and just to let people know, there is reason why black men have bigger penises. Black men typically have bigger penises because black women have deeper vaginas. *** that sounds stupid LOL but its true. This is true for all races.. white men have smaller ***' because white women aren't typically as deep. Asians have the smallest penises because asian women are more shallow.... Watch Discovery Channel people!
According to our insider, the trouble is over the naming of Nas' new album. Are they crazy?? It's NAS tho. He's a vet. Nobody is making the numbers they used to, hell it's the digital computer age. People download...and if not hell, people had blank cassettes to record an album or another cassette...the ***-word is everywhere
@ SaraEffBaby Ingnorance will never die, just like the ***-word. We as humans will never let it. I have never been offended by people using it. Its where they use it and how they use it that offends me.Its bieng taught to young black kids as well as other races. Also its kinda hard for me to get mad about this. Because for yrs record companies have been makin their pockets fat off artists lacing their albums with profanity and the ***-word. So now you expect me to be upset and offended to see anther person name their album the ***-word(Tupac was first). Def Jam dont care about him using the word if they can make money off it. Only reason their upset is because all these stores are saying they wont carry the album. Think about it now. If these stores took the time to listen to whats on these albums that are already in these stores they probably wouldnt carry any of them. So I guess out of sight out of mind. HUNH?
Unfortunately Ray, you speak the truth. However, I think that maybe Def Jam realized that what he was doing is ignorant, regardless of what his intentions may be. The fact of the matter is a lot of people will never listen to the album because of the title and his reason will be lost. Others will use this as an opportunity to slander african americans even more. I am sure there is some white punk out there waiting for the day he can walk into a CD store and ask for "I am looking for N*****." Or something equally grotesque...
There is no such thing as race relations. Black men will forever be the *** of racism!
I personally wanted to make a song about the fear of the black man's dyck!
These white folks that "try" don't stand up for our cause out of fear of being black balled! Nas and the rest of real black men are tired of being objects of this sick racism ***!
Whites are supposed tio be superior in intelligence but can't figure out that we're all humans.
sosincere, been waitin 4 u 2 return, u always have interestin point of views keep it rollin. In regards to the word ***@gga, we have been using it so long now I just do not see the problem with it. I do not see why so many people are still offended by the word. When you consider that females call each other b@tches in endearment (hey go figure) why such a fuss about a black man using a term that over the years have come to be just another slang word in Urban society. Of course many are not going to agree, but i don't care because its my opinion and the word used by a black person do not offend me.....
It's time to embarrass white men with a song called fear of the black man's dyck, they've been embarrasing us for years.
They point out all of our faults and glorify their good qualities, as if they're perfect! I's all part of theur brainwashing.
I can't wait to see how red their faces turn when that song comes out!!
darealwifey; you make a good argument however, a person like Nas is intelligent, and proud. For him to compromise will be saying that he can't be him, and thats what make him a lyrical genius to speak his thoughts and feelings with the beauty of urban poetry, jazz inspired rhythm in its purity. Moreover, I feel more artists, actors included should all take a stand and stop compromising themselves for the sake of the mighty dollar. Too many individuals water themselves down and in the end offend and lose the mass who supported them from the beginning when they were more raw and fresh.
Just another sign that the all mighty dollar rules music, not artistic integrity. Pretty soon it's going to be Fergie, stupid down south one-hit wonders and American Idol winners being all you hear on the radio. Don't blame Def Jam, blame yourselves for buying the *** instead of supporting talented artists. Black folks too concerned with what makes them shake their arses in the club then expanding mind and please don't give me this Jay-Z talk, Jay changed his lyrics to sell with these no names, Jay from 99 wouldn't sell now. I applaud Nas for having something Jay lost when he became Joey Corporate: integrity. This isn't just about Nas, it's about your God Jay-Z blowing the Def Jam budget on his albums. Def Jam wouldn't care about the *** word if the profits were where they should be.
Antidumb; my feeling is that sometimes you have to take a chance and just put it out there. This is what obviously Richard Pryor did. I'm sure there were those who were telling him to tone it down your jokes will offend people, and for some they did. On the other hand, those who used an open mind came to realize that not only were his jokes true, but funny as hell. Nas obviously have something to say, with an open mind lets get passed the title and hear him. He might speak truths, or if nothing else he will definitely get heads boppin with his nice beats.
I love Nas. I think that he is one of the most talented artists out there. However, I hate that he wants to name his album the "***" word. I have not heard an argument justifying it's use that makes any sense to me. We are the only people in the world that would take one of the most derogatory terms used against them and adopt it for ourselves. I would never buy his album if he insists on keeping it's title and would encourage others to take a pass too.
That is just pure ignorance...IMHO of course.
They will drop him cuz Nas is just one artist and he does not make "Def Jam". Yes, he is a great artist but at the end of the day if stores wont purchase his cd, then how is Def Jam going to make any money?
Do I like the idea of him naming his album the *** Word? No, it has to many negative stigmas to it, but I see where he is coming from but I also see where Def Jam is coming from also.
If they drop him, he will go to another label, I thought he had his own label anyway?
If all of you really think this is about the *** word, you're crazy.
Do you honestly think after years of calling black women bytches on their records that Def Jam is doing the "right thing"?
I respect all your opinions regarding the "***" word, but please don't hurt yourself patting Def Jam on the back. Check the balance ***, Joe Camel blew the budgets on himself two years in a row with lackluster efforts. That's why Nas is in danger, Hip Hop is Dead sold well, so why would the artist be in trouble? Follow the money and you will always find the answer.
antidumb....do it matter where the stores PLACE THE ALBUM? pUT THE *** ON DISPLAY WITH A BIG *** SIGN RIGHT BY THE CHECK OUT FOR ALL iM CONCERNED. What is the difference between a outward sign and internal *** lyrics? Lil wayne may be alot less offensive on the cover but GAURENTEE doing more damage with that brown paper bag ***!!!! The bottom line is why do you CONSTANTLY want to judge this mans character ...when it;s a known proven fact that he leans more to the side of the socially conscious before you hear one single lyric. Thats like Bills argument with "airing our dirty laundry". Folks *** cause Nas is "airing" it (but you know he is going to really attack it) but keeping quiet about the cute covers but hoe, bytch, ***, dope boy laced other ***! All Im saying is give dude a chance with his LYRICS and his INTENT before you chalk up his message!
badboy....why would ANYONE get mad cause a white boy goes into a store and asks for a album called ***@$@$a if it's called ***$#%@A? tHATS THE TYPE OF OVEREMOTIONAL BAGGAGE THAT WE NEED TO DO AWAY WITH. So what if a white college student walked into a book store and asked for a book by *** Gregory called ***%##a? Should I punch him in face? What if a white boy asked for a book called From *** to Gods? Should I roll my eyes? GAURENTEE Nas's content is going to be along the same lines of those two publications. Hell antidumb just told ya'll he got a song on his album DOGGING WHITE MENS FEAR OF THE BLACK MANS REPRODUCTIVE AND CREATION ABILITIES...CALLING WHITE MEN SUB STANDARD TO BLACK MEN. So if a white boy wanna be silly and get kicks outta calling for the album by NAME then I definately WILL GET KICKS WHEN HE REALIZE nAS' PRETTY MUCH THINKS THEY ARE DEVILS! (And they just put money in his pockets!)
focus; I hear you on that. However, I was not just speaking on his use of the "***" word, but his whole act and some of the things he joked on. My point was that he took a risk in putting out what many sneered at and actually helped revolutionized a whole black genre of comedy that is accepted not only among black people but, but people period
When stores sell playboy or other raunchy magazines they put something over the titties or assez... so you're telling me that they can't do the same with his title?

“What you keep in the dark comes to light,” a statement in which we’ve all heard and probably have used once or multiple times. However, when we’re actually in a situation in which the truth is distorted or hidden, is it really better to know? Or should we follow the proposal of Mario Winans of not wanting to know?
In a previous and highly controversial note “Power of the P-U-S-S-Y” I stated that both men and women cheat, however, I went on to elaborate on the different reasons leading to their infidelities. Women, I said, cheat for a legitimate reason; because we are in search of fulfillment when things in our relationship are continuously neglected. Meanwhile, men cheat because they fall victim of a woman’s ultimate power… Her ***.
Within this past week, I’ve held several conversations with a male individual who states and stands by the statement, “it is in a man’s nature to be with more than one woman.” Scratching my head in utter confusion and divergence, I ask him to elaborate. He then goes on to tell me:
“There is no such thing as a loyal or faithful man. A man controls his actions [infidelities] when he feels he has something he doesn’t want to compromise or jeopardize in compensation for his actions; may it be a wife, his family, etc. Although a man may choose to control his infidelities, it doesn’t affect the fact that it’s in his nature to be with more than one woman, thus, any man who isn’t *** or is in his right mind are not exempt and will at some point think about it [another woman].”
Still a little thrown off and curious to get a second man’s opinion, I write my good friend Latavious asking him his perspective on this statement. His response, “It's human nature to indulge in carnal desires. It's human nature to be selfish, and to lust and want something that doesn't belong to them. So in that sense yes, I agree. But it's in a woman's nature also.”
Is it really in a woman’s nature to be with more than one man? Using Latavious’ perspective to challenge that of Man X, I get the following response; “If *** was in a woman’s nature, this place [the world] would be chaotic. If women loved *** and thought about *** as much as men, there’d hardly be any relationships. Women are negative, men are positive, and the two opposites attract. To love *** and think about it a lot is not in a woman’s nature.”
Again I scratch my head. I know a few women who love *** and think about it a lot [I plead the fifth lol]. So why is it too not in a woman’s nature? Of course Man X has an answer for this as well.
“Women have *** because they feel like it or are in the mood. Women have *** to satisfy their man or have a reason to do it.” On the contrary, “it’s automatic for men. Men don’t have to know the girl or her name. It’s simply in a man’s nature. Being emotional is a woman’s nature; being sensitive, wanting affection, and nurturing. Women are natural nurturers.”
So here I am now sitting at my laptop, my mind swarming with questions, thoughts, and utter confusion. I now second guess the views discussed and argued in my previous note “Power of the P-U-S-S-Y.” Do men cheat because they are weak and fall victim to a woman’s ***? Or do men cheat simply because it is in their nature?
Is it a fact that because we cannot think like men, understand and interpret like men, or relate to men completely [because we are women] that we don’t believe it is a man’s nature to be with more than one woman? If you know your history, you know we’ve all derived from Africa, the Mother Land. You know that polygamy is and has always been practiced here. Have we fallen victim to western world teachings declaring one man to one woman is right and anything different is wrong?
Who am I to say? I’m just one woman and I’ll be damned if my man is running around creeping with another woman. And that’s why I say:
“If it is a man’s nature to be with more than one woman, then leave me in the dark before a crime comes to light!”
Just Kidding
focus..... how well are you tolerating the Plies, and Lil waynes, and Fat joes, and countless other one hit wonder artists? HOW ABOUT THIS......instead of big uppn Def Jam (who don't give a *** about black folks uplift..just $) for dropping Nas (a socially conscious rapper with a controversial cover) and we DEMAND that they drop ALL the artist who degrade women, blacks, and community PERIOD whether on a *** cover or in a song. I call myself a beautiful black queen everyday, I dont need no one telling me that I am beautiful, call me what you want whether its a postive or negative name but its not going to change how I feel about myself, that starts when you are a child, I was taught how to love myself, some people are not taught that, they were called bit#@( and ***(! at a young age so they dont see anything wrong with it.
@Antidumb Jay uses the ***-word quite frequently. You cant promote an album when the presedent of the label uses all the funds to promote his own and no one elses. Black stations dont want to touch him cause he doesnt make mainstream music. Or as I call it ringtone rap. This generation now dont care about hiphop they wanna hear illiterate ringtone rap. Which degrades women and makes everyone think that blacks are primative minded. As far as the album goes, in the past I have seen several albums that had covers that were deemed as offensive, have another cover to cover it up in the stores. Do you really think that this title is the reason for every thing wrong in our community? I think lack of education & drugs are the problem. Its entertainment just like movies are. Wether they be offensive or not, they always have a message. Do you really beleive that Nas would do this without a meaning? Well I dont...
All yall talkin *** about Nas using nicca but I bet you all have used or had thoughts of using the word to refer to someone else at some point in the day.
Since in a lot of cases the debate may be about the use of the "***" word, I think many of you would be interested in looking up the word on Wikepedia; some very fascinating reading on the origin, variations, and usage of the word throughout history, and around the world. This is by no means a way to change people's minds, but to enlighten ourselves on the history of the word both negative and surprisingly positive.Type in the word ***.. i.. g.. g.. a.. or ***... i... g...g...e...r... and the wikepedia will come up
iluvyellaboys- Nas better take what he can get, he's old and ain't no one checking for his music anymore....sorry!
Now last time I checked 33 wasnt old. How old are u? I think your probably too young to know what real hiphop is. It aint about dance steps. Thats for yall young thundercats. We old people call that rap not hiphop.
He can name his album whatever he wants, but I dont know how many albums he will actually sell if he puts that word on the album, maybe alot maybe a little, who knows. I personally know I wont be buying his album, he is a good artist but I think he is doing us an injuductice by using that word that so many whites has used it towards us in a negative way.
Sorry but I dont think the stores that dont carry his album will lose out, Nas is not that strong enough now that missing out on his album will make or break a store.
I think the bigger picture is how many of us will buy the album and if so why? Are you buying it becuase he is a good artist or are you buying it because its the talk of the town becuase of the title? I think if Jay did the same thing, it would be blown up 1000% larger than what it is now because of who he is.
A word can't oppress anybody, only a mentality can do that. White folks can start calling themselves [EXPLETIVE] and won't be oppressed because they have a unity mentality!
No album or anything else for that matter can uplift the self opposed oppression, but if you've given up or don't care to be part of the solution then *** up!
What an album can do is bring awareness to what America wants to conceal and sweep under the rug!
Hip hop is worldwide and people all over need to learn part of the reason we are in this mess!
We should take some of the blame for hating on each other but discrimination and being targets of hatred need to be finally explained worldwide!
Antidumb not one of these rappers can. All Im saying is stop coming down on Nas like he is the blame for the stae of the black community. Its starts at home with the parents. What kind of values are they teaching their kids? I know growing up I never took rappers like NWA serious its all entertainment. When I watched movies they were entertainment. I knew better than to take to heart what these people were saying and doing...
I HOPE HE LEAVE THAT WASH UP EAST COAST BIAS LABLE.JIGGAZ THE ONLY ONE GETTIN PROMOTED AND HE ABOUT TO LEAVE.NAS SHOULD HAVE NEVER SIGNED WITH HIS ARCH ENEMY ANYWAY,HE SHOULDA WENT INDEPENDENT FROM THE GET GO.THEN HE COULD NAME HIS ALBUM WHUT EVA.THATS HOW WE DO IN THE BAY AREA.WE MIGHT NOT BE ON THE RADIO AND FAKE *** T.V. SHOWS BUT WE EATIN OUT HERE MANE-YADDADMEEN.NOWADAYS I WONDERIN WHUT IS A REAL NI--A ANYWAY,ITS SO COMMERIAL EVERYONES A NI--A.NI--A PLEEZ
antidumb....I addressed where they should place the album a while ago.(even though you were not talking to me) They should place it right where they place the rap with the *** lyrics. WHATS THE DIFFERENCE?
nOW YOU ANSWER A ?. How are you soooo *** QUICK to big up Jay when he has put more *** out than a lil bit? What because you "define" him as a success cause he had a president by his name. *** that Rockafella was a DEVIL who gave alot to charity after he poisoned the world! But on a rare occasion I do agree with you on the diversity in hip hop thing. Just cause it's not mainstream don't make it whack. But to use your OWN words....
"You can't push your IDEALS onto someone else creating an industry of "staleness" with no diversity"..... then PLEASE STOP trying to push your ideas on nas! Let him do him! If you don't like it Dont buy it. And you always talking about "what would Dr. King think...or say"...well what do you think he would say to YOU calling us a WEAK race. My people are by NO MEANS weak. Misguided, apathetic but not WEAK. You so up on language and it's use and the power behind it....be careful what you say ya *** slf. Calling WEAK to your sista or brother is NO DIFFERENT than calling them a ni@$@%a.
@sosincere.....you are on point, I can't add nothing to what you said, everything you are saying is 100% correct. Like you said if you dont like the album dont buy it, plain and simple.
I think these rappers are looked at as role models becuase these kids dont have role models at home and they believe everything that comes out of their mouths as if it was gospel.
If Nas was using the "***" word to degrade someone or or a group of people as a whole I could understand different ones view of the word. It has become accepted as a way of expression. The word in it's purist form is derived from the word *** which simply means black or dark shade of color. While it is true many may use the word to offend or stir up contention, but even in its use during slavery time and up to the 20th century that word was used as describing us as a people much how we may call a person of Jewish descent a Jew. It's our sensitivity to the word because of the reminders of what black people experienced when we were known as the "***" word that people still continue to use the word to defame black people. If we educate ourselves on the history on the word, use it to empower you, not allow it to be a successful tool to keep us as a group shackled.
princessof_la we sold ourselves out a long time ago...
Antidumb I did address the album situation. But I will say it again. Since its so offensive put a black cover over the cover. Its been done before. Give it its own stand in the front, labeled Nas. He has the right to sell his album. This is a free country. We do have rights. I beleive alot of people will buy it just to see what he's talkin about...
BADBOY.... O.*** UNCLE TOM....usually defined as one who sells out thier own in the hope for advancement withinn white society. How again is making social and political music selling out ya own? And who is profitting? He loosing money and got dropped by his label all so he can remain true to his *** self! What seems Tom'ish is tearing down this brother while snaping ya fingers to ANYTHING on BET! But when it's all said and done...it's all about perception. You got yours, I got mine and live and let live. PEACE.
iluvyellaboys......literally how old are you? 16? A for real question? Im with ya...but do me a favor check out some of that throw back music every then and again. Listen to the words and not just the beat. Im not saying you got to put it on ya ringtone or nothing but you may be surprised how HOT some of that stuff really is.
*** Jagman, you taught me something new... I always thought the true meaning of the word was "an ignorant person". as for DJ, you said you are from the bay area? I heard a group called frontline and I have been looking for this song by them for a long time and i have no idea where to look! Are you familiar?
ILUVYELLABOYS.... you ever listen to any pac (I can't believe he is considered throwback....I am sooo grown lol) Or Rakim, or Nas. They are all fire...still. Plus I gaurentee you will realize just how much these younger dudes have flat out stolen from them. I mean literal verses. But just try it and see.
@sosincere
my dad used to play all them "old heads" back in the and don't get me wrong, it was cool but I was a younger kid......the music that is made for us is nothing like back then, I don't really think today's music is hot like it was back in the day, but that's what sells, it's almost like we are programmed "big behinds, big money and lots of partying" that's all music talks about today....but Tupac and Biggie was my favorites.
some have commented that it is ignorance to use the "***" word. Well it is only ignorant if you do not know what the word means. Seriously, if we have a problem with someone using the "***" word, you might want to have a problem being known as black because when you look that word up in the dictionary; the definitions are much more harsh than *** with a double g could ever be. If you are ever confronted with someone calling u "the word" in a defamatory way, help them to appreciate the word is pronounced and spelled *** which means black, and yes proud to be so because of our diverse and rich history and my personal contributions to my black culture.
@Jag...thats a good way to look at it, if it works for you, but thats easier said than done. Some people are not going to look at it that way, its all a thing of personal opinions. I will never understand the good in the "***" word, off topic, I guess becuase I was raised by my grandmother and greatgrandmother and they were from the south and if I ever used the word I would get hit upside the head, I only used it once when I was a kid and I paid for it dearly.
But todays youth looks at the word as a sign of endearment and it is not, not at all. I dont care how you look at it, personally I think we are doing ourselves more harm when we use the word to describe ourselves. Yes we have a rich and diverse history but its not becuase of the "***" word, its becuase of our ancestors and the struggles they had to go through being called that word and I will never embrase it nor will I find any good in it.
ILUVYELLABOYS.... i AM JUST EXTREMELY HAPPY THAT AS A YOUNG SISTA YOU RECOGNIZE WHAT YOU SAID!!!! Real talk! I probably got you by over 10 years but you would be surprised to know how many of your peers don't see that they are being "programmed". Whether you know it or not you just said some very PROFOUND stuff. Being programmed is NOT whats up. You and your friends are more than big booty hoes and your lil brothas that you will be choosing to marry one day better strive to be more (and are more) than thugs! It is truely when YA'LL realize this that things will change. Peace to you for your observation (sounds like a leader)....now please tell your friends...lol!
YOU SELF RIGHTEOUS MUH-FU@KAS ARE SOMETHING ELSE.
NAS DIDNT NAME HIS ALBUM THAT TITLE BECAUSE HE LIKES THE WORD. HE NAMED IT THAT AS A BACKDROP TO WHAT MANY "WHITES... AS WELL AS SOME YUPPY NEGROES CONSIDER US.
SOMETIMES ITS BETTER TO THINK OUTSIDE THE BOX.
RATHER THAN ADOPT A FINGER POINTING. (YOU *** DO THAT) MENTALITY. ;-)
GO READ A BOOK. LoL
SaraEffBaby; nice to hear, especially from a white person. However, whether we're black or white, we need to continue to educate ourselves on the origin of things in order to understand their true meaning. Its very easy to like or dislike something because someone tell us to, but by examining for ourselves the origin we can determine for ourselves whats good or not good. if ever i was to say something negative about our black society is we do not do enough in depth research into matters, and that is what hurts us most in the long run, myself included.
iluvyellaboys.... Nas is still HOT in the streets. If you are like 19 and under and a princess type sista then he gets no luv...lol. But Nas really don't make music for the demographic that also likes chris brown. He is pretty much talking to older dope boys (25 and up), conscious brothers and sistas, and white america. And you are right it's ya'lls age group that buys the music so YA'LL controll to a large extent what ya'll want to be labled as. Remember that.
215girl; I agree it is opinion and a matter of how you look at it according to your upbringing. On the other hand, as a people we have been programmed to look at this word as being something negative, hell our very existence as black people have been programmed into us as being negative. In the movie; "The Great Debaters", Denzel made a profound statement when he said one of the most effective ways black slaves were kept in check was by taking their minds and just leaving strong bodies. We are still in a process of gaining our minds back after having lost it so long ago. in order for us to do so however is by stepping out of our own comfort zones having an open mind and look at things not from the perspective others have drawn for us, but through our own eyes of perception. Again not trying to change a person's viewpoint but just giving food for thought based on my own observations, experiences, and personal research.

Def Jam is all up in arms because Nas want to call his album ***!gg@r. First of all, the owners of def jam probably sit back and smile to themselves everyday while thinking about how much money ***!gg@s signed to their label has made for them. Some people are going to always think of blacks as ***!gg@rs, whether an album is titled that or not. Black folks across the United States call each other ***!gg@s 24/7-365 days a year with a coke and a smile. Def Jam is just scared of not getting the type of money off of Nas project as they want. People hear the word ***!gg@r said at every turn, but now they decide to get all defensive about it being used as an album title. ***!gga pleeeeeeeeaaase!
Maybe this was the purpose of naming his album n*gger. to point out the hypocrisy of the industry's use of the word and also deliver a powerful message. these major retail stores have a problem with putting this album on their shelves because of it's title but has no problem if the word is constantly used in the album
NAS has got to learn to pick and choose his battles wisely.
The title of the album is not going to make it sell, and he doesnt have the kind of power at Def Jam to be making demands.
Sometimes you just gotta play ball. The content of the album is the most important thing. Changing the name of the album isnt going to change whatever message he's trying convey. NAS is just being hard-headed, and he is to old for that.

It's funny how things come full circle, I remember listening to hip hop from the early 80's through the 90's and our older ones then were saying the same thing to us what some of you are saying about this generation of hip hop.Back then, it was all about the lyrics with a smooth beat. heck even the beefs were handled different. for example; Kool Moe Dee vs. LL Cool J classic of all time. These cats just went back and forth with lyrics. Nowadays, someone's liable to get physically hurt during beefs between artists. No matter how much hip hop changes, or don't change all can agree that with its commercial success, hip hop is here to stay.(off subject)

A lot of people judge Tupac on his music later in his career, but Pac was deep from the jump with songs like Violent, I don't give a ***, Words of Wisdom etc.
I applaud Nas for getting back to shocking this country, and opening more eyes to the ills of society as well as bring his perspective to an on going problem with this word!
What other way to talk about it but to address it head on!
*** out to all our white guests what up my *** (LOL). Naw seriously though, I agree wit jagman, we need to educate ourselves on the *** word i looked on wikipedia under the word under discussion and found some interesting facts about where the word came from and how different cultures view and use it. thanx j-man u alrite wit me bro (by the way i'm white) hope dat don't upset anybody.
@JAGMAN TRUE INDEED.
ALSO WE ARE TALKIN ABOUT 2 DIFFERENT GENRES.
MOMS WOULD ALWAYS HIP ME TO THE OOOOOLE' SCHOOL. LOL
CIRCA 1970S TYPE ***...STILL LOVE IT THOUGH.
BUT NOTICE HOW WE CONSIDER OLDER GANGSTA RAP FROM 93' HIP HOP NOW?
I DOUBT WE WILL BE DOIN' THE SAME FOR SOME OF THE "COONIN" ACTS OF THE LATER PART OF THIS DECADE.
AND DON'T BLAME IT ON THE SOUTH. THEY JUST AS HIPHOP AS THE EAST OR WEST.
BLAME IT ON THE EXECS.
First of all Def Jam dont give a *** about Nas or any of their other hoos that arent profitable. This is a *** ho game and the artist plays the ho and the better the ho the more they get paid. Nas if he used he conscious eye would see this as a blessin get away from the *** and do yo own thang uncensored if you see fit. The problem is a lot of these dudes cant survive without pimps. They scared they would get they punk azz kicked and lose that f@ggoty @zz lifestyle, but time will tell, if this story is even true. But what about this name yo next album Black Bit@# and follow that with Dumb *** F*@kas and finish wit We All Dying because thats whats happenin. The words themselves have no power but at some point we must move forward and begin thinking and communicating on a higher plain especially brothas or sistas that consider themselves somewhat enlightened or educated. The bafoonery is no longer needed everybody sees and understands b.s. somebody betta step up and raise the levels of communication. As a man thinketh in his heart so is he. Nas you name yo album Ni@@a brotha you betta bring it none of that half and half ish you been releasin.
nas will be ok his talent can go anywhere def jam been falling off for a minute now when rocafella broke up(dame,jay-z&biggs) that was the beggining of the end they prolly shudda hired irv gotti to run it nas need to put together a supergroup nas, talib queli, mos def, common, kanye west&lupe fiasco that is some real mofon hip hop right thurr --------------------------------------------- i'm so chi you thought i was bashful!!!! i come from a zone where the homes all beat up the folks, stones and unknowns all meet up!!!
people who are mad that Nas wanted to name is album N*gger obviously dont know much about Nas as an artist and dont really listen to his songs and his rhymes..Nas is an intelligent MC who is socially conscious and doesnt intend to disrespect the black race by doing this..and why are you hypocrites mad at him for naming his album N*gger, yet you bump songs in your car and shake your *** to songs by these rappers and R&B artists that use that word in their songs?..dont act like you havent done that..if your mad about Nas using this word, get mad at ALL of the other artists that use this word in their lyrics..dont buy their albums, dont download their songs, and dont bump their songs in your car.. if you were a true hip hop head, or actually listened to his lyrics, you wouldnt be in an uproar about this or insulting him..Nas has covered every range of topic you could think of..hes a philosopher..its sad that Nas isnt selling albums, yet idiots out there are making Soulja Boys song the most downloaded song of the year..what the f*ck? hip hop is garbage these days and if Nas disappears, then the state of hip hop will truly be in a decline
I agree with staypoppin01. I am sooo tired of hearing this so called "music" today. Nas has have some nice songs as well as others but back when.... the entire albulm was nice. I can't even let my teen listen to one song because of all the b's and ***'s and poppin' booty and gun issues in the song. what my child listens to in my home is up to me. if she hears it outside then so be it but she will not say my mom allowed me to listen to xyz. parents have to take control BUT THEN AGAIN THE CHILDREN ARE HAVING CHILDREN.
The majority of hip-hop products are bought by non-blacks. In the words of Langston Hughes,"The word *** to colored people of high and low degree is like a red rag to a ***. Used rightly or wrongly, ironically or seriously, of necessity for the sake or realism, or impishly for the sake of comedy [,] it doesn't matter. Negroes do not like it in any book or play whatsoever, be the book or play every ever so sympathetic in its treatment of the basic problems of the race. The word ***, you see, sums up for us who are colored all the bitter years of insult and struggle in America." Riddle me this, WHEN AND WHY HAVE OUR FEELINGS CHANGED ABOUT THIS WORD? WHAT'S YOUR EXCUSE? Chow for now. B. Shug
The majority of hip-hop consumers are non-black. The gov't isn't trying to hear it. Imagine the album flying off the shelves into their hands. Then it would seem that the ****** have taken over their minds. Imagine that-----AN UP-RISING! Can someone say Martin Luther King Jr. version 2.0? Chow for now. B. Shug
