If this is true, then it's such a shame. Nas is a purely genius writer, and I love all his work. He's very consciencious and tries to uplift his people, and bring light to the 'unpopular/not as commercially acceptable', but very true struggles that we have everyday.
Hopefully he won't let the man change him for a few dollars, and release his album independently.
Def Jam doesn't market too well anyway, so I don't see why he can't afford a few low budget videos and try to promote his sh!t himself.
Black people need to rise above the mentality that we have to work for the white man. Be our own bosses, and that's the only way we'll change people's perception about us. People were making cassette tapes back in the day, sharing albums and taping songs off the radio. This is nothing new.
They just want to blame it on technology - when the real story is ---- ANYBODY - can make an album these days ---- the the stuff they are calling "hot", is just that a HOT MESS.
What happend to "show business"?
Now performers are working the stage in their street clothes. No showmanship, no style.
The lyrics of the song - don't inspire you to fall in love or go out and enjoy your life.
Albums used to comeout and everything woulkd be a hit on the album. They had a hard time picking which one to play on the radio first. Now, you get the one (1), song and the rest is "filler". And that one song --- isn't even good.
It cost the record labels too much money, to keep this "throw it at the wall and see what sticks", marketing strategy.

Partly true, except downloading is easy and convenient, back in the days somebody had to buy the album then maybe you would copy it or you had to BUY bootleg.
How many albums can you borrow??
Now the songs are immediately online you don't have to seek an outside source.
I'm using Imeem.com right now and feel so guilty, because if I didn't want to I never would have to buy another album again ever, and it's free.
Luckily I am a conscious consumer, who will later support the artist I choose to.
No longer do people havce to purchase an WHOLE album when they only like one song.

What is the world missing when it comes to the title of this album? The album is going to be of some value for us to understand.
