: MediaTakeOut.com told you a few weeks ago that Shaunie O'Neil, Shaq's estranged wife, was asking for an accounting of all of Shaq's expenses. Well, we got our hands on a list of a few of the NBA great's more extravagant expenses:
- $156,116 in mortgages on three homes (including his $20 million mansion on Miami Beach's Star Island), plus $31,299 in homeowners insurance; - $110,505 for vacations; - $26,500 a month for child care; - $24,300 for gas; - $17,220 for clothing; - $12,775 for food; - $10,065 for electricity; - $10,000 for temporary child support; - $10,000 for alimony; - $6,730 for dry cleaning; - $5,000 for car payments; - $3,345 for phone bills; - $2,305 for pets; - $1,610 for lawn and pool maintenance; - $1,495 for cable TVO.K. Call us crazy ... But how is this dude gonna pay $24,000 for gas and $5,000 for the dang cars themselves!!!!.
And what kind of cable does he have that costs $1,500. He probably watching a whole lotta the Spice channel....
That makes no sense, bet those numbers are fudged to hid the thousands and THOUSANDS he gives to his jump offs.... aint enough driving in the world to add up to $24,000 a month!! Even if a tank of gas was $100 bucks a tank he would have to fill up 8 times a day... [EXPLETIVE] aint right and you think the lawyers would be smarter than that
HE IS SHAQ DIESEL HE GOT IT LIKE THAT REMEMBER HE GOT LIKE 4 RINGS... www.myspace.com/dot171 www.myspace.com/dot171 www.myspace.com/dot171 www.myspace.com/dot171 www.myspace.com/dot171 www.myspace.com/dot171 www.myspace.com/dot171 www.myspace.com/dot171 www.myspace.com/dot171 www.myspace.com/dot171 www.myspace.com/dot171 www.myspace.com/dot171
I would say that his spending is high but not totally excessive. When you make millions of dollars on a yearly or even quarterly basis, your expenses are going to be high. Besides, this only helps his wife's case as it will show her cost of living was high and the kids and her should be maintained in the same manner once the divorce is completed. So technically speaking, those numbers could've really been higher.
This is more of an annual itemized list and not a monthly itemized list. If you add up the figures, it exceeds $500K per month, which would add up to $6 mil a year (if you say that he's paying this monthly) and he would be broke. He's rich but he's not that rich unless he and his wife is truly stupid. I found it ironic how you got ahold of this list (if it is actual yearly spending) since it is the beginning of a new year and it is tax season.
Shaq got over like a fat rat when he signed his last contract in 2005. Pat Riley signed him for 5 years and 100 million dollars which comes out to 20 mil a year. It was really obvious after 2003 that Shaq at 31 was losing his skills. The problem with most athletes and rappers for that matter is they make money but don't know how to let the money make money. I understand wanting the finer things in life but how much do you really need?
And you wonder how these athletes ala Mike Tyson who made over 200 million dollars during his career are now broke?

A couple of more points...
Now that Shaq has fallen off, I am thankful that there will be no more Shaq movies in our future or no Shaq rap CD's.
And MTO needs some more researchers...his last name is spelled O'Neal not O'Neil

I'm sure some of his cars are paid for Blank Brains... and that's his money...He'll NEVER be broke... so he made it, he should spend it however the hell he wants. The NBA has a hellafied retirement package too...so like I said HE'LL NEVER BE BROKE. Plus, most of yall spend money yall don't even have... let him spend the money he DO have.
I'm with you kholt1, it don't make that much sense..but some of them lease some of their cars cause they not interested in them when they get over 2 years old.. so that might be one or two of the cars he lease. I have a hometown friend that's in the league and he schooled me on some of the things I didn't understand about the way they spent their money
@kholt1 Those are probably vehicles he leases so that they can be written off as a business expense on his taxe return. Most high dollars people lease their vehicles NOT because they cannot afford to pay cash but because they tend to get to few & far in between tax breaks & they need them anyway they can get them! People please remember that in this list unless is specifically states MONTHLY then it is an annual expense. Oh yeah & mortgage insurance & interests points are tax deductible too so I am sure h accountant had him by the most house he could possibly afford to get that tax break. I agree that $110K for vacation is REALLY not that much at all. I DO have a question about the $26,500/month for childcare, I know they have like 5 or 6 kids but HTF do you spend that much a month on childcare when your wife does NOT work?
shaq was the third highest paid athlete last year 35million, the money on this list is peanuts the lakers gave him like 120million like a year before his trade to miami and this is just his latest contract not to mention when he first came in the league.shaq, iverson, garnett, bryant, duncan probably have grossed well over 100 million in there careers just from there nba contracts not including endorsements.and the money is guaranteed,so a few mill a year on expenses is nothing!!
HELL! IT'S HIS MONEY. SHAQ IS SO RICH HE PROBABLY SH!TS 100 DOLLAR BILLS. HE DESERVES TO SPEND HIS MONEY THE WAY HE WANTS TO. YEARS OF PLAYING BALL PUTS A HELL OF A STRAIN ON THE BODY. HE GOTTA SPEND ALL THOSE MILLIONS ON SOMETHING. I HOPE HE GIVES BACK TO THE COMMUNITY, BUT IF HE DOESN'T, OH WELL. (CAN YOU SAY- I'M RICH BIIIIIIOOOOOOYAAAAAA CHES)
This list might include the expenses of his entourage as well. In any case, he got enough money to spend it how ever the hell he pleases. What I think is being lossed in all of this is the fact that Shaq is lame. He is big, dumb and then has the nerve to be a cornball too. I could not care less about his divorce or his fiscal affairs.
Next story please!
This seems like a lot to the average working mofo but to Shaq that ain't shyt! His bills come out to $429,265 per month....that's $5.2 mil per year....Shaq makes 20 million dollars a season from the Heat alone!!!!...That's not including his endorsements! Even if he didn't have endorsements Shaq could pay his monthly bills in about 2 games and still have money left over to buy a Rolls Royce Phantom...EVERY MONTH!!!!! Now MTO you do the math!
I wonder if these spendthrift people realize a recession is coming? If people can't afford the high cost of gas, get laid off, etc., they surely won't be buying concert or sporting event tickets.
And Shaunie needs enough money to sustain the children and that's it. Shaq made all of that money thru his basketball skills. I'm tired of reading about these wives or girlfriends wanting 3/4.
Just imagine...if the NBA team owners can afford to pay their athletes $100-$200 mil contracts, think of what THEIR annual revenue is??? "Blacks" compose the majority of the NBA and surely the majority of the talent. I figure with such a monopoly on talent, "Blacks" should have MAJORITY ownership in at least half of the teams. As we speak, there are several ex-players that could pool their resources and purchase some teams. When will "Black" professional athletes and entertainers ever stop being chattel property (albeit wealthy) and become owners and controllers???
