As for Chris Brown, he's also right, a couple of hit songs doesn't make you legendary, so yeah let's wait 10 years and see how he's perceived then. In the 80's Morris Day and the Time where emulated, created dance moves that were done by everybody, like the walk and the bird. There hasn't been any other artist since that has captured American youth the way that band did. So yeah he can talk the talk because he's already walked the walk.

I blame just about every problem we have in the black community today on the breakdown of the black family and the lack of fathers. Including, our taste in music, or lack their of.
I have a very good knowledge and respect of music that was before my time. The reason is because I had a father who brought me up listening to different genres of music from different decades. It shows in me today, because I have such well rounded taste in music.
I love hip hop because thats the music of my generation. I like rock n roll because I grew up listening to Jimi Hendrix, Corlos Santana, and Eric Clapton. I like funk because I heard a lot of Goerge Clinton. I like the Blues because of BB King, and Bobby Blue Bland. I also grew up listening to James Brown, Herbie Hancock, The Temptations, Etta James, Aretha Franklin, KC and The Sunshine Band, Average White Band, Confunktion, Prince, Morris Day and The Time, Micheal Jackson, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Earth Wind and Fire and many, many more. These are all real musicians with real talent.

How come our parents arent encouraging our kids to pick up an instrument. Theres a middle school in my hometown that provides free piano lessons and they cannot get anyone to enroll. Playing and instrument is just like having a trade. My boss Dan brings home a few extra hundred bucks a week, because he plays Bass in some house band at a bar 3 nights a week. And he gets free drinks.
Think about how many black guitar players you know, and then think about how many rappers you know.
Its apparent by some of these post that we've lost our appreciation for REAL talent. Thats why we got to put up with Soilja Boy.

Every single White musician I know has a strong knowledge, appreciation, and respect of the legendary artist of the past. They WANT to hear their opinions on todays music. They want to learn from them. They read there biographys and watch their documentaries Even some of the lesser known ones. I dont think thats the case with many black kids today. Some people cant even take a small amount of criticism, like Morris Day calling Chris Brown "hyper" which is true about 70% of 19 year old boys out their, without getting offended.
