I myself was born in wedlock but I decided since I was very young that I didn't believe in marriage for myself. My parents have never even argued b/c my mom is such a subdued woman. So, it's not like I had bad family experience and they are still married. I just don't believe in marriage b/c it's my choice not to.
I do find it funny however that Angelina Jolie has never been referred to as a "baby mama" not in black or white media. But Shar Jackson gets referred to as a baby mama. Is it my imagination or are people really coming around and agreeing that marriage should come first? This is the first time I have seen so many "pro-marriage" posts! Yayyyy! It's about time. Sure there are people who don't think marriage is for them, but I don't think it should be the acceptable "norm" especially for black folk. We are NOT Angelina Jolie, nor can we afford to be. I agree. Not everyone needs or wants to get married. I for one do not want to. I have my son, his dad and I are together, we discussed marriage and it is not for us right now.. Maybe in a couple of years but not now. He and I have been together 6 years, longer then most marriages, My parents have been together for 33 longer then many marriages and they have not gotten married.
For the person who called a child born out of wedlock a bastard, maybe yours is, but mine isn't regardless of my marital status.

MOST of the time, people are not PLANNING to have a baby first then get married, but in our culture, it's just the way it seems to happen.
