: NEW YORK (AP) -- Corrections officials report a New York City man who wounded six police officers in a 1986 gunfight that led to a nationwide manhunt was killed in an upstate prison.
A New York State Department of Correctional Services spokesman said Larry Davis was stabbed to death at about 7 p.m. Wednesday while on recreation break at a yard at Shawangunk Correctional Facility in Ulster County.
The spokesman said they are questioning another inmate in his death. Spokesman Erik Kriss said Davis was fatally stabbed with a 12 by 1 1/2-inch homemade metal shank in the arms, head, back, upper thigh and chest.
Davis was serving 25 years to life in prison after being convicted on murder and other charges.

What you and most people don't understand about larry davis is the fact that, yes he was a troubled young man growing up in the Bronx but the NYPD used that to make him push the drugs in the community. They threatened him and his brother that they would kill him and his family members if he didn't do it. Larry eventually did start selling drugs in the community with the backing of these same crooked cops. the drugs was the police and they were his enforcers. Larry wanted to get out of the drug business and was planning on leaving, but the police wasn't hearing none of that because he had too much evidence on them. It was the cops who hunted him down, claiming that they were looking for him for a Murder that he commited on a Drug dealer. Witnesses clearly stated that Larry had nothing to do with the murder. larry was being set up. The Police came to his sister's house to kill him plain and simple...their(NYPD) intentions was not to arrest the man at all. they came shooting up the apartment that had women and children in their. Larry had to do what he had to do to survive and he shot it out with the cops. Larry escaped the mayhem and was arrested a couple of days later. Larry was not convicted for shooting the police. he was convicted of killing a drug dealer. larry got off for shooting the police because of self defense... The prison guards beat him up within the first two years of his prison sentence and paralyzed the brother.. He was in a wheel chair. he converted into Islam in prison....It is a known fact that the drugs in our community is pushed in their by our government...see the CIA report at the library of congress.. the Police are the Biggest drug dealers out there...And yes we have choices as a people not to get involved, but for those who live the street life these are the consequences that they face....They show you in the movies how these things go down...check out the Movie SuperFly....to get a better illustration of what Larry Davis went through...

Years ago I was at a party and a guy I knew from high school was there. He had a drug history. He pulled out a huge bag of drugs. When I realized what it was, I got the hell out of there. That man has been in and out of jail his entire life over drugs. Just because someone's pushing doesn't mean you have to take it.
Obviously there are lots of people who are getting their info from rappers and street DVD's. Larry Davis was not a hero. He worked for crooked cops. He robbed and killed young black men at their instruction. That was his defense not something someone else said. He claimed the police forced him to do these things and were coming to kill him because he knew too much. How much of that is true we'll never know but how did he ever get to hero status is beyond me.
He faked paralysis as well. His life was one scheme after another. On Riker's Island he was in a wheel chair until another inmate stabbed him at which point he jumped up and hauled ass to the "bubble" screaming C-O!
It's sad reading these blogs because most people are passionate about things they're clueless about. Larry was worse than a rat. He got the opportunity to shoot those cops and getaway because he had the type of relationship with them that would afford him the chance. They were all relaxed in the presence of each other.
His sister's boyfriend turned him him for a measely 25k. All of these people are scum and bottom feeders with no sense of loyalty or principle. I'm appalled to hear him getting any praise.

i think u got it right nimrod but it's sad to see alot of ppl saying karma is a b itch w/o knowing the story of larry davis. on one hand those are likely ppl who are not from nyc or are just young cats, but on tha other hand the ones who are bigging up larry d are tha ones who fully believe the 'urban legend' from their boys and/or everything from the DVD's. i still don't think we'll know tha full story 100%. u can't fully believe a street dude like davis AND u DEFINITELY can't believe the nypd 100% so us on here will never know tha real deal....only so much we can be sure of. but either way RIP larry D. i can bet his name will be in even more raps now.

I heard about Larry Davis from my big brothers and uncles, who might I say have glorified Larry Davis. I lived in Harlem until I was 17, when all of this jumped down my uncles and brother was doing their thing on Lennox so they looked up to dude and I guess b/c of them so did I. You have to be a youngster or just naive to believe that police are not corupt at all... I remeber the larry davis situation very well. I just read stymelove post and he hit it right on the nail. yes larry was what we will call a thug back then but so was many of the people who lived in the hood in those areas. it is a known fact that the police target people with criminal backgrounds to do their bidding, because they know that it is less of a risk for them. how do you think drugs get into our community. we don't have boats or planes. that cia report that stymelove was talking about is absolutely true. Maxine waters the representative from california had a hearing in congress regarding the cia funneling drugs into the black community...they even showed a documentary about it with this guy from california named Rick Ross, who they used as the supplier to the streets. I think that it is naive for people to think that the police are good guys and there is no coruption at all. You see it everyday on the news of people getting caught up in scandals so that answers your question about why the police will risk their carreers for that... answer this question: why would the police risk their carreers in making 5 young teenagers in Harlem confess to raping the central park jogger? They spent over 10 years in prison for a crime they did not commit..... and also you mentioned that you wouldn't be forced to do anything that you don't want to do and that you would have wrote letters to the media and everywhere..Now that is being really ridiculous...First of all he was a young thug at the time in his teenage years when these crooked cops approached him...who in their right mind is going to listen to a young thug from the Bronx with a juvenile record over the police...I mean come on now people get real. Hearing the news of his passing saddens me, BUT it saddens me more to see all of this bickering and banter over a dude who basically did ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to better his community. It's clear you did read the whole thread, because if you did you would have saw that it was Antidumb who was the one who attacked people who disagreed with his/her/it's assesment... all people were saying is that the facts that Antidumb had was incorrect.. If read Antidumb's post all he/she/it is talking about is what he/she/it believes... it is not about what you believe Antidumb... deal with the facts.

Larry Davis wasn’t no tough guy. Larry Davis was a bully. He and his whole family were naturally big and husky. The only people that feared him were the young dudes under him or the ones who he would bully. When I say young, I mean 13 –16. He wasn’t trying that [EXPLETIVE] on people his own age, let alone his own size…

People have been standing up against police ever since the police department was formed in this country (the first being NYC in 1845 or so). Learn your history. At any rate this is the ONLY thing I respect the man for is shooting when he had to.
Larry Davis was a snitch. Now I know most people here don’t care about snitching, but if we are going to make him sort of legend or some nonsense, that has to be examined. I know some one he personally snitched on. Brought the pigs to his door. Crying. This is BEFORE he was selling drugs. Now, working FOR the police? Strong arming for them, telling on other people for them, hustling for them…all that proof positive of not karma, but JUSTICE. He wasn’t tricked into a God damned thing.
Most people who sensationalize his story are not from that neighborhood. Most aren’t even from the city. And most aint old enough to understand. Build with people who KNEW him and were older than he was, or his age. It’s a different story then people who stand to PROFIT (financially and Socially) from being associated with this so called “hero”.
Let me tell you about Heroes…Fred Hampton was a Hero. Sojourner Truth was a hero. Larry Davis wasn’t shooting cops to free nobody. He was shooting cops to raise money for the hood. He was a selfish dude who shot cops cuz he didn’t wanna die.

As far as the DVD? I cant say its one sided, but obviously it is sympathetic to the idea that this dude was a hero. The hood hated him. I know two people (who are still alive) that was HUNTING for him that same week. Yea, the police wasn’t the only ones. Larry davis did business in a grimey, unclassy way..which is why he and the PIGS got along. He is RUMORED (cuz I don’t know ) to be snitching in prison also. But for a FACT. He was snitching on the streets.
In closing..i’m WELL aware that the whole drug game isa master plot and the war on drugs is really war on US. (chemical warfare), but don’t make this dude to be a [EXPLETIVE] MARTYR or POLITICAL PRISONER. Cuz he’s not.
