I grew up in bedstuy brooklyn, and my parent took me out of there because of the ghetto mentality that some people have. I made it out. I am successful. I did not sell drug because I made the choice. I will not be a millionaire in my field. but I am comfortable because I work hard to get where i am. I worked as a bagger at the grocery store, blockbuster and hollywood video. I was a soldier, a security guard and maintenance man, and I am only 28 years old. I chose to be a man, and make the system work for me. That came from good parenting by my mother and father.
I have only had one job that i have not been promoted within 6 months. I dont believe in reparations because It did not happen to me, my father or grandfather. I do not deserve it. we as black people need to stop blaming the past and build toward our future.
It cost on average of about $40 a day to house an inmate. how is that slavery my good man, how much do you think they are manufacturing to cover the cost to the tax payer.
Yes I know that the sell of narcotics are being given alot of time. and I know that enron executive stole many many millions and cost tens of thousands of people jobs and they should have been given more time because in the end they hurt more people than our neighborhood pusher.
trust me though, some of these fools need to be in jail. many of these violent offenders need to spend the rest of their life inside for killing, raping and other violent crimes. in those cases, I am very happy the system keeps them locked up so that they wont hurt anyone else. |

Also, the education system in the inner city is bad but i think that it has more to do with the attitude of the children and parents and the overpopulation of those schools. more so than money. the good teachers leave to less populated areas where the students are better behaved and the money may be a little better (but all school teachers are underpaid)
i went to too high schools in atlanta. one was in dekalb county (a black part of town) and the other was in north fulton ( a white part of town). the way that the teachers and administrators treated you differed greatly. the attitude of the students differed greatly. both schools were in suburban areas though.
I think the inner cities have money for projects because property taxes are higher. not because of the property value but because the owner of the property ( in the inner city most people do not own the property that they live in) pays a higher tax rate because that person does not live in the property that he/she owns.
if you own the house you live in, you file for homestead exemption and pay between 30 and 40 percent less in property taxes. I am not sure if that is the same everywhere but it is in georgia.
what i am saying is that the suburban areas where people mostly own their own homes take in less in tax dollars per person. |

mightyc42...I don't know. I don't have the answer to that. But just a opinion is that there has to be some viable econnomic growth and oppertunity withinn these communities. Its not a black thing. Its a poor thing. When you have a economically depressed enviornment flat out crime goes up. So if there are drugs in the hood to be sold among poor folks then they are going to sell them. Then you get addicts who dont take care of kids, then you get kids having kids, then you get generations of backwards ass people. Hard to find a solution when the economy is f'd up. But as far as crime there HAS to hand down has to be stiffer gun laws....period. I know tha is gonna get alot of brothers put in jail but after a few tougher punishments I think they will learn. Of those forty dollars only a small portion goes to house and feed the inmate the other portion goes to staff and infrastructure and reinvestment--in the case of private prisons. Privatized prisons make their money off of those bodies that "40 bucks" you mentioned that they reinvest or build relationships with other companies like Victoria secrets or Boeing jet where they use prison labor to produce the goods at a negligible costs--and then resale it to us at 300% costs. So it is in these corporations as well as the local, state, and federal govt who not only are relieved of the burden of housing prisoners but are also being paid in terms of rental of land--by these private prisons--so what's the conspiracy? We need bodies to fill these prisons to function as non-wage laborers also termed as slaves. Also when slavery was rendered illegal by the I believe the 13th amendment--the one provision stated slavery was illegal EXCEPT IN PRISON--also large scale prisons did not pop up until post-emancipation and reconstruction.
As a capitalist nation it is important that labor expenses are left at a minimum. That is how America made its money and built its infrastructure. With the rising labor costs, less immigrant laborers to exploit, slavery abolished and America losing its competitive edge prison labor gets more and more important for the survival of a capitalist nation. So the “ghetto” is designed to force people into crimes of necessity (legal term) through limited work opportunities and poor educational system, and then are imprisoned for non violent crimes---it’s too much to go into but the educational system is so apparent by your posts it’s sad

I dont think that tougher gun laws are going to make these young brothers learn. as you and i agree that these tough drug sentencing are not making them learn. I say again that i believe half way houses may be the wasy to go.
for those who do not know, halfway houses are generally judicial department controlled facilities, usually owned by a apartment home, where inmate with early release live. It provides a few parole or prison officers. the inmate must hold a job, are not aloud to use alchohol have sex or use drugs, they may not be aloud to drive. have ramdom drug and alchohol screenings, and a curfew. but they have a apartment and a controlled environment and are aloud to leave for work or to shop, visit some friends ect. If the inmate break any rules, they are subject to go back to prison and serve the rest of their sentence. It cost a lot less than putting them in prison.

When the trivial fraction of Israelites were left, they were not the only people So when the Romans came to town, the population dispersed from Palestine. It then became a composite of many nations and the Israelites were only a trivial fraction... while the masses of Israelites remained scattered through out Africa and the Arab nations. Meaning these European Jews are NOT amongst the tribes scatterd because if you believe in the BIBLE the tribes are still scatterd throughout the middle east and mainly AFRICA!

i agree with you about jew not only being white but also black. but it also sounds to me that you and vuitton don are both only taking what you want out of history. (him more than you) if you want to get the facts, you have to study both sides of that same story( and sometimes three or four sides). i bet i can find another educated scolar to say something opposite. I think that we have to research all that we can and use our own knowledge and common since to figure it out.

I read that King James did what he wanted, and I believe that because I understand that power corrupts adn absolute power corupts absolutely. but then again, maybe he had integrity and the persons responsible for the rewrite did the changes. it is over four hundred years old. king james is not the one who translated but the one that was told by teh church that the bible needed retranslation. what happened exactly, will will never know for sure.
I say that because two people can have the same memory of an event that happened a year ago but both memories will be a little different.

I still think that the man suing him has no case and no right. is he going to split the money with all descendents of slaves if he wins. most of us will by something that wont appreciate and in 25 years will be in the same prodicament.
some one said yesterday that they should use the monies to fund schools and black college grants. good idea but then the coleges would just raise the tuition after a couple of years. look at how expensive college is now compared to 20 years ago. (including inflation) so we wouldnt get as much as we wantd anyway.
