Word is that she's been laying low and recovering from the surgery. And that, if all goes according to plans, she'll have her new physique in time for summer.

I really hope not, although if she did it was probably for health reasons. Mo'Nique was the poster child for confident big gals, not that I am one but my stepsister kept telling me how evil I was for being a skinny bytch. She did start talking about losing weight alittle while back though and said she was cool with it for health reasons, which is why I am inclined to believe that is the reason behind the surgery, if it infact happened.

Child please inside every big woman theirs a skinny woman dying to get out. But I think she should have gone with a more natural solution like dieting and exercising. That way she doesn't come out looking like Star Jones. Anyways with that type of procedure you lose weight so fast that your skin sags and you have to get another surgery done just to tighten the skin and look normal. Most people are depressed after they get this procedure.

We all command attention every time we are out, and while I am sure things have been said about my weight before- it hasn't been said to me. I work with what I have and I have no problem with my body or my self esteem. I will say that if health wise, my weight becomes a problem- I will lose SOME. But sugar my mom is a size 8 and she has high blood pressure sooooo.
Now as fas as MS.Monique. I really don't believe this for a few reasons-
#1- she is in Atlanta this weekend for a show with Steve Harvey.
#2- She has been all over the place the last few weeks.
#3- I just would like to believe that she is not that big of a hypocrite.
If it's for health reasons, I understand, but gastric bypass was not the way to go, she should have hit the gym. But according to her, her weight wasn't giving her any health problems. I dunno about this one ya'll.

This woman is very obese and her praising being fat is a horrible thing that celebrates a condition that is causing major problems in the black community. Our health as a people is nothing to laugh about and she has made far too much money praising being overweight and unhealthy.
As much as the gastric bypass is a good first step in her getting into shape and changing her obesity, she needs to do more....Without regular exercise and a change in diet/lifestyle it wont make any difference.

dont know if this is true or not, but wish she wouldnt go the surgery way. Gastric bypass is for life and has some serious effects. You have to eat small moist portions the rest of your life and look at Carnie Wilson. She had it done and is gaining weight constantly. star jones looks horrible to me. Randy jackson on American idol had it done and he looks like he gained some back. Al Roker had it done. Its just too much of a life altering surgery. I think the old fashioned way is best, diet and exercise
Just because you are thin doesn't mean u r healthy, and just because u r big doesn't mean u r unhealthy, I know several plus size women and they work out at the gym 4 -5 times a week, they eat pretty normal amount of foods, but they will never be a size 2 hell they won't be a size 12...lol.. but they are healthy, they are not sick and they have more enegry then I do, and truth be told the plus size women I know, doesn't have a problem with getting a man, as a matter of fact they get more attention from me then the thin girls

I do believe that ALL big people are unhappy with themselves. They say there’re happy to the public. There is no way happiness includes you not being able to breathe correctly, not being able to bend over without moaning and groaning, high blood pressure, diabetes, high cholesterol, and the list goes on.
If you are happy I think you need to reconsider your happiness! Dresses well and getting your nails done has nothing to do with the illnesses you will soon suffer from if you’re not already suffering from disease associated with obesity. Studies indicate that by the year 2025 over 65% of Americans will be overweight. That percentage is astonishing and doesn’t have to be. I’m not sure what percentage of that number is African Americans but I willing to bet that it will be more than ½ because African Americans eating habits are so unhealthy. I apologize if I’ve offended you. But I erg you to get into a daily exercise routine because being overweight is not attractive or healthy. You may carry it well but it’s to much for your heart to carry.
Also no ones implying that if you’re skinny or in shape that you are free from health problems, but as you know being overweight greatly increases your chances of health problems.

I am happy for several reasons, I have a sexy, hard working husband that worships me and spoils me to death. I have some crazy ass friends that I know are real. My family is all the way on point. I have a good job, I can buy nice things, I have a relationship with God, and although I was told all my life that I would be a "statistic" (living in the ghetto, too many kids, too many baby daddies, and on welfare) by too many haters- that's not me. The fact that I keep my hair and nails on point, and I dress nice just add to my allure as the sexxi woman that I am. my life makes me happy- and a part of my life is my size and I am cool with that too.
I feel what you are saying, but I have been within 1-2 pounds of the EXACT same weight since I was 19 years old. I am almost 28. I am a firm believer living so I make sure I have things checked out- my good and bad cholesterol are at the right levels, so are my triglycerides, my thyroid, my blood pressure, my hemoglobin A1C, and various other things. I have no ketones in my urine, I can walk and jog ( I do walk everyday ), I play tennis, I have no problem bending over (ask my husband), or breathing for that matter. I don't even snore. I take my vitamins, my heart is healthy, and I DON'T eat any and everything. I hate cake, cookies, or anything with a bunch of added sugar or salt. I don't fry anything ( except for the occasional fish) and I prefer wheat over white any day. I eat MEGA amounts of fruits and vegetables, and legumes also. I have never been on a diet and my black, female, size 4 GP says I don't need to worry with one. All of my doctors are fierce black women and trust me- I would have been read by now if they thought it was a problem. I have been seeing them both for 16 years. My doctor says that I am fine and no mare at risk than anyone else because of my LIFESTYLE.
No, I am not offended- I just feel like you are not authorized to decide that ALL big people are unhappy or that we want to be something else because some of us don't. This subject always amuses me. I don't think the issue should ever be about envying someone because of their smaller size. It is not healthy to be overweight - period - and no one should be 'proud' to be unhealthy. I am a size 4 and have always been thin - took after my dad's family The most I've ever weighed was 165 and that was my top weight in my last pregnancy - and believe me it was hard to carry that weight (and in the summer!) so I know that being generally overweight can't be fun. I never believed that Monique was cool with her size - I always felt that she joked about it because she has seemingly struggled with weight loss issues - hence gastric bypass surgery instead of the good ole' fashioned eat healthy and less caloric foods and exercise. I do hope that she strikes a balance afterward and adopts a generally healthy lifestyle.
If she's doing it for health reason then fine but if she isn't she would be the biggest hypocrite on the planet.

I'm not fat but I was about 20lbs overweight about 15 years ago I felt so sluggish. It really gives you a boost of energy when you don't carry so much weight.

WOW...I should have posted this morning. Well, what i can say is, Monique helped alot of thick chicks feel good about being what they are, feeling good in your skin. I have always been big a size 18 and have never felt like i needed to be skinny or thin. Like a poster said above its about your attitude, you can be slim and not be happy in your skin, its a mental thing. Now, as much as i walk around feeling good, and sexy with my big self my doctor did inform me that i need to loose weight for health reasons. So i have been trying to and i get the same thing as many of you have said (oh, i thought u were proud to be big) well, for my health, i'll have to learn to be proud being much smaller. This may be the case with Monique, i am from bmore ma self and have known of Monique since she was doing local standup here at home. This is not a gimmick to get attention her loving herself the way she is. This is who she has always been. Sometimes you get to a point and say, i have to love me as i am, if i dont, who the hell will. This is a health reason if you asked me, i cant see it any other way. And she is a big girl. Anyway, thats my take on it....

YES, actually all of those sizes exist depending on which designer you are buying. I am not a liar AT ALL. Who are you to lie to sugar? My size is what it is, a 16 on bottom and because I am a 48dd, an 18 in tops. No reason to lie about that hun. You have made your point, and TRUST I get it. I think thin and plus size people are great- you obviously don't- that's cool baby! But what you don't get is that I have no health problems what so ever (excuse me I AM anemic and I do have the sickle cell trait) and no it's not a good idea to wait until the good doc says you are at risk, but since my doctor (whom I will trust over you until you have a phd), says that I have nothing to worry about IF I MAINTAIN my lifestyle (the way I cook and eat) the fact that I am active (walking and tennis) and the fact that I keep my life as stress free as possible- i will continue to live as I have for the last 7 1/2 years. Now I agree- I could afford to lose weight IF I wanted to be a size 12, or 10 or whatever, but it's not my style and it's not me. I hate the way I look UNDER a size 14, ya know. When I was 17- I had a really bad case of appendicitis and I was in the hospital for a few weeks. I couldn't eat and even though they were feeding me through an iv, I dropped from 175 to almost 130. I looked sickly- especially with a thin face and my inherited wide shoulders and huge tatas. And my bp was too low. Once I gained that weight back- I was happy with my looks again. So see- that thin thing is not for everyone.

AND people need to stop exaggerating about being a "size 2". if you a size 2 and you 4"11, that's healthy, but if you a size 2 and u 6"0 like me, that's a problem so I'm about right at a size 10-12. but it's not healthy to be a size 20 if you only 5"5.

Sad to say that it does not suprize me. I kinda thought she was a fraud because of the way she behavied on "Charm School". Now that we got that out the way...
Alot of obese ppl go the "easy" route of surgery because it's not fun having ppl judge you before you open your mouth. It's easier than being called a fat pig or being told "oh just back up from the table".
Personally, I'm glad that I got a chance to be in this body, because I know how to empathize with ppl, develop tolerance, and be humble. We are all God's children and anyone without faults please cast the first stone.
Excuse me while I go into the corner and curl up and die for being so hideous, unworthy and a nasty waste of space.
Side note... I wish ppl got passionate about real world issues like they do about obesity. I mean they'll jump on that I just want fat ppl to be healthy cause in a heartbeat.

I honestly believe that some of these women who make rude comments about being big, was either bullied by a big girl or a big girl took her man...the men that make rude comments just don't like big women, and hey that's your perog...but I mean what will it do in the long run? Are you helping the cause? Generalizations are just as bad when Monique (jokingly) says ALL skinny women are evil. NOT All fat people desire to be skinny... what's so hard to believe about that. I personally DO NOT rep all obese ppl but I do want to be in skinny body if only for one day to see if the grass is greener or if it's just that easter grass you find in baskets.
But i bet even if skinny when i'm walking in the mall another woman will always have something negative to say about me whether it be hair, shoes, outfit, looks.... that's how we are... Well being obese is not fun, she has a problem with thin women and its obvious... I figuring If you can beat 'em join em, long time big girl Queen Latifah is even trying to become smaller. I am speaking as a "big girl", I was a 24-26 once upon a time and I am an 18 and trying to reach a 12 or 14.... I feel alot healthier and energetic, however it has taken almost 2 years doing it the "right way".

Second, Who are you to judge anyone on this site that said their happy being overweight. I'm sure you have some type of imperfection,(no ones perfect)so what if someone tells you that you should be unhappy with you being you. Really how do you think that would make you feel?
