: MediaTakeOut.com reported to you a few weeks ago that rapper Jay Z would be headlining at Britain’s Glastonbury Festival this summer. And now it's looking like he may not have been a good choice after all. According to the event's organizer Michael Eavis, the summer's hottest event in the UK is having trouble selling tickets.
And MediaTakeOut.com has learned that Eaves is blaming Jay Z for the low ticket sales. In a recent interview, Eavis claimed that his decision to assign Jay Z - an artist of "middle range" popularity to a headline spot - instead of festival crowd pleasers like Radiohead, Coldplay or Oasis was a mistake.
Eavis is quoted as saying, "There’s not as many [ticket buyers] as last year because we haven’t got the super, big, big, big sort of headlining act anymore. We’ve gone for something middle range, although Jay-Z is huge in America. But it’s not like Radiohead or a Muse or a Coldplay or an Oasis, is it? So we didn’t expect the demand to be quite as high."

The promoter is an idiot. Jay hasn't been a TRUE headliner in quite some time. He's known more for his business ventures these days than for selling records which is how mass appeal is determined.
Honestly, Jay had the misfortune of coming on the scene in the shadow of Pac and BIG. Then he was overshadowed by their deaths. Then he was overshadowed by Diddy's rise in the wake of BIG's death. Once that subsided he had a brief moment on top of the game but decided to take on Nas in a monumental blunder and was then quickly "ethered." Not long after that Eminem and then 50 came through and crushed the game sales wise. He's a helluva lyricist and he's def in my top 5 all time but his entire career he's pretty much been 2nd fiddle to someone or some event. That's the breaks.
And please don't recite any inflated stats or hype force fed to convince people he's hot. No one worth hundreds of millions goes to work for the likes of LA Reid. Jay's sales, wealth, and relevance is a lot of hype and this promoter either went for it or thought the people would still go for it.

Glastonbury Festival is a festival which is aimed at people who listen to Rock and Alternative music so it was a stupid idea to get Jay Z to headline it! I happen to know that he is just as popular in the UK as he has always been, but obviously he is not going to sell tickets if the people who are attending the festival are expecting to see Rock/Alternative bands!!! Imagine if Coldplay were headlining a Hiphop Festival-do you think they would sell tickets??? It wouldn't mean that they were flops-just that they did not appeal to the specfic audience who were buying the tickets, which is the same in the case of Jay Z. Its the organisers fault for booking an act whos genre of music is totally different from that of the festival!

Stop making excuses. It doesn't matter what type of music that festival is known for. If I'm a jayz fan, and i knew he was in town performing, i would go buy a ticket to that festival, no matter who normally performs at that concert. With Jayz headlining, what those poor ticket sales show is there is a lack of fan base for jayz's ass in the U.K., period. Fans don't give a [EXPLETIVE] where you gone be at, if there's a ticket to be bought, we are buying it to get to you. There's just not a demand for his ass over there cause they are not hype and dick riders like we are over here. i think there are a few things going on where tickets are not selling on the hip-hop side 1) ticket price come on 89.00 are the lowest tickets here in chicago, i paid $150 for mine that's to damn high for anyone people out here losing their houses who can afford those prices? 2) the artist don't connect with the people anymore, they act like they are scared to even be around the same fans that bought the Maybach, 3) Music is very garbage and materialistic now a days. The Glastonbury festival is the largest greenfield music and performing arts festival in the world. It is not a hip hop event - it is a predominantly rock event, and to broaden it's appeal they have a hip hop artist headlining for the first time in it's history but Cypress Hill, The Roots, Roots Manuva, Damian Marley, amongst others have all played Glastonbury before.
