There's hip hop, there's ignorant hip-hop, and there's rap music.
Hip-hop brings a message, ignorant hip-hop glorifies a life of crime, and rap music simply makes you nod ya head, dance, etc.
Soulja Boy in no way is tryna deliver some type of message to hip-hop. He is simply "havin fun". There's more to the little dude than just his songs, he has plenty of youtube videos that show him just being silly and talking about life, etc. He finished school and is wanting to further his education. He's only 18, what is he SUPPOSE to rap about? Killin, drug dealin, etc.?
Just like back in the day when we had breakdancing, Soulja Boy is simply actin silly. He even has a song titled "Get Silly". I'd rather my children try to learn a dance than listen to some of these washed up azz 30 year olds braggin about how they killin, dealin, robbin, etc. "Shootout"??? IT'S A DANCE. Not ONE of his shows has had any violence to my knowledge, the kids are there havin a ball. The most they can gather from this cat is Ok, let's dance, let's look fly, and more than anything else, let's make-up a dance, put it on youtube and get rich! THAT'S not negative to me. I don't think he's tryna be a lyrical genius at all, so he doesn't expect people to think he's one. Before I get on the I hate Soulja Boy train, I'd rather get at the older cats who haven't even given our youth anything to look up to, feel me?
