I think it's about time that Latino's formed their own culture. They identify with being white, but they swagger jack our style constantly. When I moved, people aways had jokes about my area...But I look at it as a place that made me stronger and made me grow to become the woman that I am now...A lot of people I grew up with got trapped there and do not strive to want or do better...I'm thankful I had a different mindset and wanted more instead of just settling...

Yeah, I was born and raised in the hood, I haven't lived there in years but I still consider myself hood because when I grew up there it wasn't as violent as it is now. I have very fond memories from my childhood because it's not what TV makes it out to be. It can be months before something violent goes down at 2 in the morning when most people are sleep anyway. But when you learn better you do better.
Why whould blacks change how we use a word? We took a vicious slur and changed it's meaning entirely. We use it within our culture and we should not have to change so other people can be put at ease.

The same sh!t that happens down there can and will happen up North. In defense of latins, for a p.r. woman to act white at work then jenny from the block outside of work is a good thing more blacks should act this way. I would'nt go as far as to call it acting white, maybe acting professional or caring about oneself with respect and dignity. And as soon as blacks relize that they have to leave that ignorant hood ebonics crap outside of the working world, the better off they will become as a race. As much as I get mad and won't spend my money any where that mexicans work. I am not black but I see nothing wrong with it because no one was complaining before. I am a huge fan of Fat Joe obviously because he's Puerto Rican like me and I enjoy his music. He is not white or criticizing African-Americans in anyway.

I have two kids and my husband is black we don't use that word in our house I don't want my kids to grow up hearing it. My husband is from the Bx he's been living here all his life and I've never heard him or his friends he grew up with use that word so whoever saying its from the projects that its OK its not and I don't say it myself cuz I think its very disrespectful and no one should say it. Well, it is time for me to get on my soapbox, I obviously need to educate people what the word [EXPLETIVE] really means. I'll paraphrase my father. He said that [EXPLETIVE] is a term that white slave owners used to belittle and control the slaves. (p.s. BLACK slaves in early American history) But, just like chitterlings, fatback and greens, we (black folk) tend to take the leftovers, and all the other [EXPLETIVE] that white people through us and turn into a delicacy or flip it and make it mean or be whatever WE (black folk) want it to be. Guess what? I'm black. I am not hispanic or spanish or latin. I have inherited my last name from my family's slave owners hundreds of years ago. They gave us names. We didnt chose our names. Ever seen that movie ROOTS? Those people were African slaves. Ever seen the movie AMISTAD? I don't remember any latino slaves in that movie. Matter of fact I don't know any Latin people who don't have a rich history they can reminence about. My family history is blank. Since you (Latinos) want to be the same as black people, can you tell me your family history? I bet you can.
We (Black people) do not know where we come from. Yeah, we know we come from Africa. But that's it! We don't know what country, what city, what tribe, what language, what people. Nothing. Nada.
My family doesnt know any history before my great grandfather about 3 generations back. And GUESS WHAT ELSE? They were white. My ancestors were white slave owners. Are yours? They raped our black African women and lynched our black African men. The white people hated us (jealous) and called us n*gger as a reminder that we were presumably inferior people or subhuman. And so you Latinos wish to be black too? Why, so you can freely use the word n*gga? Give me a break. None of your people died over that word. But we did.
We were called colored, black, African American, mulatto, negro, n*gger, porch monkeys, brownie, buffie, ape, darky, crow, inkface, jiggaboo, jungle bunny, negroid, kaffir boy, sooty, tar baby and more. We were robbed of our heritage by the white man. We were bought over here in slave ships in chains. You (Latino) people were not bought to America in slave ships. You chose to come to America. We did not chose. We cannot just take a cruise ride back to Africa... because we DON'T KNOW WHERE WE BELONG! You have your Latin heros and conquistadors all the way back thousands of years ago. We don't.
We were stripped of our African heritage and forced to take the caucasian (white) heritage. We had to adapt or die. My entire lineage speaks English! Not spanish! Not African! We (black people) have no identity we can touch. Latinos, you do! You know where you come from. You know what language your people speak. You were not subject to slavery in white America and lost your native tongue in the process. My family knows nothing about where we come from. Yes, I'm sure there are DNA tests out there that can tell you what country in Africa my family is from, but until that DNA test is free or advertised on TV, all of us BLACK PEOPLE will still be wondering: where are we from? Who are we? What tribe did great great grand daddy come from? My last name, where did it come from?
I could care less if you grew up in the hood with all of us black folk. You are still not black. I'm proud of my black race. I grew up in a spanish speaking hood in H-Town (Houston TX for those who dont know) and I dont walk around speaking Spanish and saying "I'm Mexican just like you."
That is very ignorant. This is not the movie Tarzan, this is real life. Just cuz you was raised in the jungle with the wolves doesnt make you a wolf. It feels sad to see our Black culture and heritage (which was stolen before) get taken advantage of AGAIN and misrepresented by ignorant people who dont even understand history.
