Hey everyone...I just wanted to provide everyone with sum of her bio from her MySpace Page...enjoy
Heavy Vee was born Vanessa Asbury in New Jersey. As a child, Vanessa expressed her talent whenever she could, either at local talent shows, or just at home, clowning in front of family members. Perhaps her comical side came from her father, comedian Willie Asbury. After a move to Newark, New Jersey, her mother worked two jobs and struggled to raise two daughters as a single parent. Little Vanessa didn’t let the family’s lack of money stop her from performing. She spent most of her time in her room either practicing dance moves with her sister Valinda, or coming up with rhymes to express her daily emotions. She was inspired by Hip Hop artists that “kept it real” like Lil’ Kim, Missy Elliot, Biggie Smalls, Tupac, and Salt n Pepa. When Vanessa turned 15, she gained the confidence to share her own songs with others and booked her first ever live performance at a local steak house in Jersey. From these humble beginnings, Heavy Vee was born!
Heavy Vee would like to thank God, her sister Valinda who has always helped with her dance moves and keeping her on track, her close friends for always encouraging her to keep writing and especially, her Mom for always being there for support and transportation! Heavy Vee aka Nessa Ness plans to make a big impact towards the hip hop game and music industry with her lyrics and her poppin’ dance skills. She says “The number one thing on my list is to bring back real hip hop music to the industry!!”
Larger than life with a talent to match, Heavy Vee wants to represent for the big girls as well as boys worldwide and wants them to know that if they dream it, they can do it! Like Mo’nique says, “Big is now IN.”
This might have been fresh it is was a junior high school talent contest, but the simple fact that anyone can become a star by setting up a Myspace page or post their video on You Tube, speaks volumes to the state of hip hop. Music speaks about nothing of substance anymore, and it makes me wonder how long it will continue. I'm not trying to knock her hustle, because she could be doing worse or nothing at all; but I miss true hip hop. I don't need a hook is definitely not going to "bring back real hip hop."
Seems like everyone under 30 wants to bring 'REAL' hiphop back. Just a word of advice to the up and coming artists, find you a guy(or lady)in his late 30's to mid 40's who lived thru the 'REAL' hiphop era and sit and LISTEN to what went on, what was hot, what was worn, watch some youtube videos and when all this is done, sit down in a quiet room and start writing(not a song, but a story), you might just suprise youself!
ACTUALLY THE SONG ISN'T BAD.BEAT IS NICE. IT'S JUST GONE BE ROUGH FOR HER TO BREAK INTO THE GAME CUZ FIRST OF ALL FEMALE RAPPERS DON'T ENJOY MUCH SUCESS THESE DAYS...THINK ABOUT IT. HOW MANY U SEE OUT THERE DOIN' IT BIG? HOW MANY ON YOUR MTV/BET COUNTDOWN? "ZERO". PLUS THE FACT THAT SHE IS OBESE WILL NOT HELP EITHER. BUT WHO KNOWS..
Yeah she's big...so what?! The song is off the chain and that's the point. Since when did "being attractive" become synonomous with being a talented rapper/singer/actress/musician.
It's attitudes like most of the immature ignoramous on this site, that keep artist like Rhianna, Ashanti, Maya and a few others in business because they have the "look" and not the talent.
I for one like the song, and I dont give a crap what this young lady looks like, i'll rock this on my ipod!
Sometimes I'm so disgusted with how some of the people in our community act towards one another. I certainly would like to see how many of you behind the computer screen are so "attractive" that you can judge others.
And to that fool (Popsson) saying "Fat Girls Sit Down", you go take a seat w/ them boo cause you certainly aint got it going on w/ that fake Chris Brown want be pic you got up...you look more like Chirs Clown!
Yo its all about the song who cares how she looks. And to be honest I dont like female rappers besides Missy because they all suck. Missy and Queen Latifah thats it. Everyone else is trash especially since Remy is gone. And out of female rappers young or old she is aight. The hook and beat is on point. Her flow aint bad. EVE take lessons and leave the acting alone. Unless babershop 3 is coming out.
She don't need a hook...but she does need a neck...lol
Seriously @ rarestgem, I agree....It sounds like something put together for a high school talent show...which is fine...but not exactly bringing back the real hip-hop. If she keeps working at it, grows, and comes up with some real lyrical content, perhaps she can make it.
@LukeCaged43...you took my first thoughts right outta my head...
Do you ma...can't knock you for taking steps to follow your dreams...One person can make a difference!!! I'll be lookin for ya in the future!!
@Jizzle...real talk!!
@gagryl...not even as much negativity...calling someone fat or whatever is the easiest flaw for people to capitalize on...smh
@esotericdredz I always look forward to reading your profound thoughts on the real issues. It is good to know that there are still intelligent brothers out there who are not willing to be swayed with the popular position, but are willing to stand by their beliefs and express their opinions. I know that I can always count on you to keep it real and acknowledge genuine beauty. You most certainly make me and our race proud. By the way, I love your hair. I'm jealous, because mine isn't that long yet. Anyway, thank you for the props. Have a wonderful weekend.
@esotericdredz FYI, the Katt Williams quote is from Wild 'N Out Episode 17 (season 2 episode 7). Spanky was trying to go hard at Katt about his hair, and then Katt got him as only he could. "You don't like my hair, I can wear a hat for that. But you broke and you fat -- there ain't no 'hat' for that." In history of the show, it tops the list of the funniest. His quick wit made him the best on the show and in the current game.
THank You Otis.... See thats the problem people who are so stuck image think small... She have some talent but for those are just looking at her size will only make silly remarks.. America want people o look like Deelishes and have no talent cause that what you are trained to like.. Dummies quit leetin the media tell you whats hot and whats not... Stop being a hater ol girl is going for her dream what about you?
I like this song!! I can definitely see this song being hot in the club. It has a nice beat, she has a nice flow, AND she's not talking about some of the nasty things that other female rappers talk about! Being big has nothing to do with it, several celebrities have made it to the top being big. She just needs a stylist becuase her clothes are too tight
she's doing her so it's whateva!! and why comment on her weight?? we know she's big, we all saw the video!
@HARDCORE... are you trying to say that people under 30 don't know what REAL HIP HOP is??.. if so i'd beg to differ. I'm 19 and I know all about the Hip Hop from the 80's... you don't need to research that far to realize what hip hop was about in it's early stages... if i was a rapper i'd wanna bring REAL Hip-Hop back too. Is there a problem with that??
.......The media got ya'll bitches screwed up in the mind. It's a shame when someone can't go for they're dream all because she's a big girl? SO and? Point? What's the point you're trying to make? " She need to sit her fatass down." or " She need to do something with herself and stop embarassing herself like that." Ok....The girl is doing what you are afraid to do. Get in front of people like ya'll and do what she likes. Stop hating and congratulate some damn time. Not everyone is made the same, dumbasses.
B4 I even read one comment I just knew the negativity would abound on this post...but obviously Ms. Vee could not care less. I would never knock someone down for doing something positive. Is the song going to be #1 on Billboard..probably not, but she's having fun doing something she enjoys and that's good enough for me. More power to her and all the other young people defying the odds.
*LL-Cool-Jizzle* That was 2 official pa. Much luv.
-Besos-
Not so sure about the song, its about as ridiculous as any of this other crap I hear...but I hope she blows up, and probably will. A stylist and some yaky and she'll be straight.
ps- I never heard anyone bagging on B.I.G. about his weight when he came out. Tight ass lyrics and all, he was black as hell. And folk talked about it to no end. So folk will always have something negative to say...
