: MediaTakeOut.com has learned that this weekend was one of the most violent weekends in recent history for the city of Chicago. According to police statistics 29 people were shot in the last 2 and a half days there.
Here's how Chicago's local station WLS is reporting things:
Five people have been shot to death and more than two dozen others wounded in shootings since Friday afternoon in Chicago. Eighteen shootings in 17 hours. It's just one snapshot in time and a police spokesperson says it's not indicative of an uptick in crime. Nonetheless, police and community members are concerned.Concerned???? Yeah when 29 people get shot in less than 72 hours, y'all better be concerned!!!!
CHICAGO IS TWO-FOLD YOU CAN ESTABLISH A GREAT CAREER THERE AND THEN YOU CAN GET IN THE MIX WITH THE WRONG DAMN CROWD
ITS VERY SAD INDEED, AND IT MAKES ME ??? WANTING TO SETTLE DOWN THERE LIKE I WANT TO

Let's not forget to add what was also in that report off WLS(channel 7abc news) that 1)"Crime breeds with warm weather. More people are outside. It's just a given we're going to see a bit more activity," says a police spokesperson(it just got in the 70's this week) and 2)For the first three months of the year 2008, Chicago police report the number of murders is down 1.1 percent. I LOVE MY CITY AND IF YOU WANT TO PERSENT FACTS LETS SHOW THEM ALL. B EZ
I live in Chicago. And the problem with Chicago is the same problem we are having with the Government of USA. The Rich Keeps getting Richer, while the Poor don't get a d@mn thing. Chicago is more concerned about getting the Olympics then they are about the welfare of not only the people but the kids. These kids are taking guns to school and no one has done anything about it because they are all in the offices trying to build up their wealth and get the d@m Olympics. The mayor comes on tv, yells that he is disgusted, brings a few church leaders on and that's it. The next day it is forgotten about until the next crime happens. That's because the wealthier people in Chicago don't care! This doesn't effect them! I love Chicago but Chicago needs to get their act together. This is still one of the most racist and segregated cities in America! The poorest people in Chicago react because they feel hopeless. They see no pictures of success outside of a token few. Then they wonder why most of the children want to be rappers...that's because they think that's an achievable dream....just to get into the game and find out that you can't even achieve that in Chicago! Chicago is for no one but Chicago until you blow up then Chicago wants to claim you! Kanye said it best, we hate to much that d@mn even I hate us!
Media Take out is some damn liars I live in Chi-town and it was only 19 people what did ya'll go do kill 10 more this morning, get your facts right before ya'll go posting bullshit, I bet TMZ and Rap Godfathers got it right, it's a shame to steal other peoples stories and revamp them into garbage. I got a headline story for ya'll "The owner of MTO looks like Kanye West and John Legneds Love child" I seen your unlce tom ass on BET.
Yea, man this violence stuff is really out of hands now.
Their is so many killings going on in Chicago.
These young kids need do to something constructive with themselves.
Their parents need to get involved in their life's.
These kids are bored. They want to make money the illegal way.
I don't want to really blame the rappers, because they're not the kids parents, but those are some of the people who these young kids look up too.
All they know is, MONEY, CLOTHES, HOES. It's in God's hands now.
Everyday somebody in Chicago is getting murdered.
I'm sick of this shyt.
Send they ass to boot camp or something...PLEASE!
How in the hell are some of you all gonna say "NEVER MOVE TO CHICAGO OR L.A."?
I mean yall act as if CRIME choose which area to hit.
Some of you people are not the brightest star's.
Crime don't have any limit's. Yes, some area's are worst than others.
Crime can happen ANYWHERE f*cking idiots!
Little kids even know that.
Let me start by saying, I live here, I have stayed in other places, but I was raised here. It is bad, always has been, it is a lot of gang activity here. I will also go into saying it is getting worse everywhere. These kids are getting hold of these guns, and have never been trained to shoot, so they are hitting innocent people. Our mayor enforced a curfew law, but I really don't think that will do justice, unless, the fine is raised higher. I figure, what are these kids doing roaming the streets, at 12:00 A.M., why do kids play in the street, ride their bikes in the street, etc. Parents, need to take it back to the old days, and stop letting these kids think they are grown, and do things that were unheard of in my days. I can go on and on, but MTO, you get my point, things have changed, and I really feel sorry for our future, if things don't change. Everybody wants to be a THUG, and shoot em' up. SMH
@tashag, you hit it on the head, the mayor doesn't care, what he cares about are his pockets getting FAT. Who cares about the olympics, get your city together first, having you heard the saying, "take care of home", that's what Bush needs to do also. Healthcare, neighborhoods, our people are out here dying everyday at alarming rates and they don't care. I hope Barack, gets in office and cleans it up.
This is an inner city with a troubled police dept, gangs and thugs. What do you expect? The gangs of Chicago were moving south one time but our police chief and his dept. weren't having it. They formed a gang unit and told the public what to look for. When a gang spray paints their initials on your property, they're trying to take over. The chief told the public what to do and after about 5-6 months, no more graffitti and no more gang activity. This happened several years ago. I guess the picked up and went to another town.
The streets are getting these boys because because they don't have any strong men in their lives. There's nothing we can do. It's up to the parents and their families.
Inner city schools are bursting at the seams with behavior problems, teachers hands are full, etc. Some problems the public just can't solve. If you can't report a crime, I would not want to live where these shootings are occurring.
Here's how inner cities can get a grasp on this violence and it doesn't mean having peace marches either:
1) Use your vote. You need a mayor who won't tolerate this BS. Guiliani came into office after Dinkins and cleaned house. He brought the mafia to its knees. Crime has decreased tremendously in NY now.
2) Most people know where the drug houses are and they certainly know people who are IN the gangs.
3) Report suspicious activity; it's not snitching, it's called protecting you, your family and your community. Stop thinking all cops are bad. Some police officers are there to help.
4) You need a good police commissioner as well. He will dictate the crime stats in the city. If there aren't enough cops on the street, the crime will be very high.
5) Get some fathers or men involved with these boys. I can't say that enough. This is where it begins.
Towns like Philly need a new mayor. Detroit, a new mayor.......After a new mayor comes into office he can dictate whether the police chief needs to be replaced or not.
politics dont mean [EXPLETIVE] in chicago, only the politics of the streets...just picture a highly populated city with access to everything and not a damn thing to do...erbody else comes to our city cashes out and leaves but we here sittin on our hands basically waitin to meet our fate...i love my city i only hope to do more for it in the future but its been [EXPLETIVE] up for a looooooong damn time
myspace.com/chicagoembassy
I live in Englewood on the southside of Chicago and this happens all the time when it starts to get warm we call it killing season... Chicago is the 3rd largest city and has a murder rate higher than LA and NY... Everyone here is gang affiliated either GD,BD,BS,VL or whatever it's just sad some many innocent kids get killed by bullets with no name.
real talk i kno first hand cuz i kno 6 people dat just got shot in da past week. you only here about whats reported its so much more shootings. 1 of my guyz might have 2 get his leg cut off. they shot him on the bus stop 3 days ago, and they shot my lil guy 2x in a 2 week span. they shot him on the express way. this is all going on in da wild 100's let alone the rest of da city. they shooting [EXPLETIVE] 4 no reason and its been like this dats y u gota stay strapped like seat belts. and most of them under 21
so many people have been shot in chicago it makes you feel like an outcast if you havn't been. i got 2 many [EXPLETIVE] dat been shot i even kno girls who been shot. some of the worst places to be in chicago is in englewood and the wild 100's. both filled wit a bunch of broke [EXPLETIVE] dat aint got [EXPLETIVE] 2 live 4 so they mad at da world.i love my city 2 da death but its reckless out here. 2 u outsiders if u aint from da hood dont come for ur own safety. WILD 100'S
I wonder if the earthquake has something to do with it. I saw a news report that said that the pets in that area were acting strange both before and during the earthquake. I think we take for granted how our spirit and psyche are connect to mother nature and the earth core, and how the events of mother earth affect our mind states (humans, animals) without us even realizing it.
peace to all my chi-town peeps born n breed in and around chicago i had to call back home today when i heard all this(live in vegas now) but that used to happen everytime it starts getting warm to all the bds,gds,vls,4ch,bps, peace peace to all my BLACK PEOPLE MUCH LOVE TO ENGLEWOOD(SOUTH SIDE) ALWAYS WILL BE HOME FOR ME!!!
I don’t know what all the fuss is about. Chicago is just keeping in step, with American traditions. You know, TRADITION!!! Americans smoking weed, Americans smoking other Americans. It’s just a couple of the nations favorite, and time honored pastimes. The whole thing, is just so patriotic. It just warms my heart. E.
It's funny because i know many people down South from Chicago. They are really nice people when you get to know them. It's weird. I think enviroument plays a big role in these killings, and of course economics. I really think if more people look to educate themselves instead of getting in gangs things will change. And all you gang bangers who are forcing people through violence and threats to support your evil you should be ashame of yourself. You are the ultamite coward. Remember young people, the Devil don't have no love. Stay away from evil. minded people.
That's scary on top of being a Damn shame! I was just in the Windy City for my aunt's funeral and I'm glad that my trip was very brief.....after hearing this. I suppose I'd feel safer in New York than anywhere else. Sounds strange but it's true. New York has a much cleaner and a much better reputation now since Guiliani was elected in the early '90's. Chicago needs more police presence or more strategies to eliminate the violence out there. This is very disturbing news MTO.
ITS ACTUALLY 31 SHOT AND 2 STABBED AND FOR ALL THE PEOPLE BLAMING THIS ON GANG VIOLENCE (UNTRUE) MOST OF THIS WAS DRUG RELATED CHICAGO HAS GOTTEN MORE SO AWAY FROM THE GANG-BANGING AND IS MORE CLICK FOCUSED THAN GANG FOCUSED (NO MATTER WHAT SO CALLED SET OR SIDE YOUR FROM) YEP MONEY AGAIN PEOPLE MONEY.
@Terrideniece919
The facts are right maybe you need to do some research and even if it was 19 and not 29 does that make it better??
I have lived in the chi all my life and this goes on all the time its just getting more coverage this year
"You just have too many guns and too many gangs and too much drugs on the street," said Weis
By at least one unofficial count, more than 30 people were either wounded or shot to death since Friday, including Marcus Hendricks, who was murdered allegedly at the hands of a former employee firing an AK-47 assault rifle. Sunday, Chicago Police Superintendent Jody Weis called for more common sense gun legislation to help control the violence. "Police are placing themselves in harm's way 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, confronted by AK-47s and other powerful weapons," Weis said. The victims of this latest wave of gun violence includes innocents and gang members alike. Sunday afternoon, 17-year- old Marcus Greer, the 24th Chicago Public Schools student this year to be killed by gunfire, was laid to rest, as the city geared up to combat the violence that claimed his life. "It takes 24 students to get killed for some action to be taken ," said Harold Greer, victim's uncle. Although the number of murders in Chicago have declined in recent years, based on population, the murder rate is higher in Chicago than in New York City or L.A. New York had 496 murders in 2007. Los Angeles had 349. Both L.A. and New York have significantly larger populations. So, proportionally speaking, Chicago has a homicide rate 3 times higher than New York and nearly 70 percent higher than L.A. "I don't really like to compare different cities because we can find different ones that will have a greater murder rate per capita than Chicago has. I think we need to just focus on Chicago and do whatever we can to take the weapons off the street," said Weis. Some victims' families say they wish the solution was that simple. "It's really a broader problem. It's really an economic and political problem. It's too many people with hopelessness and despair in their lives. They don't value life," said Cynthia Flowers, relative of gun violence victim. CPD says it intends to put more officers around schools and also in high-crime areas where they particularly believe there's a possibility of gang retaliation. They are also asking the community to continue to be involved-- especially parents, to make sure that they know where their children are.

What's the name of the gangs with the abbreviations you used: GD, BD, BS, VL.
@ Antidumb
Those are Gangster Disciples (The largest gang), Black Disciple, Black P Stones, and Vice Lords.
I was born and raised in Englewood in Chicago. I remember being a high school student in the early 1990's when people were getting murdered left and right. In 1991 alone, almost a thousand people were murdered. Now in 2008, níggas are acting up again.
But Chicago is always funny like that. Níggas and their guns hibernate for the winter until about April or May when it gets warm and the sun stays out later and then the guns and the níggas go hunting. As far as these shootings being gang related, most of the victims are not gang members but the police call it gang related if the shooter is a gang member or the intended target is thought to be a gang member.
In Chicago, long hot summers = mo murder, mo murder, mo murder.
Start Snitching!!!
Dear Mister President, tell me what to do, These níggas acting up in the hood send mo troops!
The Chi has and always will be this way. I was born and raised there and the only difference is now you have babies killin babies. No matter what side you live on. Thats one of the reasons i wouldn't move back, not that Milwaukee is any different cause it ain't nothin but a bunch of people from the Chi here too. No matter where you go you will find crime increasing at an alarming rate. it all about how we are raising our children and what society is teaching us. We as people, black, brown, red, green, yellow, whatever have got to do better.
i live in chicago and grew up in the jeffery manor and currently stay in the south shore area, i knew a few of the people that got killed in the last few days and i think the problem is over parents not being active in their childrens lives and letting them conduct themselves as adults, back in the day it took the whole community to raise a child but now we have people within the neighborhoods killing each other over money, jealousy and women. its getting ridiculous and its been going on for the past 5yrs. and now its not the older (25-35 y/o)males in the city its the kids(15-21 y/o) trying to show they are tough and can hang but in actuality dont know what they are doing. It use to be honor and respect for your fellow, but now its just no respect at all, majority of these kids now dont even have respect for themselves let alone the next person, the parents really need to step up and stop lettin your babies have babies and think they are adults just because of it. the police dont make it better, they so busy worrying about being robo cop that there focus is on the wrong people, the youngsters are the ones to worry about
Why is everyone saying how sad this is? This Sh*t ha been happeneing there before they tore down Cabrini, Raobert Taylor, Stateway, Madden Park....etc. I grew up in Chicago, and go back there on a regular basis. Chicago will be exactly what it is....Chicago. It's always been like the wild west out there since the Al Capone days. It is sad yes, but stop acting like violence doesn't happen anywhere else in the US.
<a href="[link to external website removed] New Era</a>
Go check out that website and see all the sh*t that doesn't get reported on the news.
lifegroove...i'm gonna have to disagree with you on one thing. Nothing absolutley nothing will change for the better because he is in office. Why just because he is BLACK...RIGHT
A true sign of hope is when people begin to accept accountability for their own actions. When mother go back to being mothers and fathers go back to being fathers. When we as parents stop trying to be our childs best friend an start giving them reason to want to be something in life an to accomplish what God intended them too. We have to stop letting society raise our children. In my day it took a whole village to raise a child. 1 man is not going to change the world, not overnight not in 4 years and deffinatley not because he is balck. Wake up people it is the last days and evrything that is going on now has been fortold. the changing of the seasons....the natral disasters, it is present day sodom and gomorahh....Since when are there earthquakes in chicago or any midwest area....since when is it okay for everyone to want to be gay/bi/tri...whatever....why are we still fighting a war for no reason at all....you have hurricans litterally wiping out whole cities, people are turning to material things( false gods) and worshiping them....
Yea here in CHI! People will be talking sideways next thing you know they wanna fight and then you will be lucky if you fight the person 1 on 1 w/out any weapons. Then its you getting jumped by like 6 people with weapons. Worst is pulling out 9 mm and getting shot! Yeah times is ROUGH! People better start PRAYING Real Talk its a WAR ZONE EVERYWHERE! No One is SAFE!!!
I'm from the south side of Chicago and am raised in Los(t) Angeles. So I know both cities VERY well. It has nothing to do with weather, and everything to do with social economic factors. It sad how people on here can blame the oppressed for their oppression. Chicago is also (like L.A.) a police state. There are cameras EVERYWHERE in the city, yet there are mad cold cases. Gentrafication is on the rise and young brothers and sisters are dying.
Obama can't and won't save you. Stop waiting for a Messiah. Organize yourself, organize your community.
Black Power!!!!
@soserious4life: Some areas are just that, crime infested. They've been this way for eternity. It's no guessing game where the crime is condensed in most cities. That's why some people say they don't want to move to A or B.
When an area has a low crime rate and some people from the inner city move there, you'll notice the crime rate escalates. This is what happened when many of the thugs from New Orleans moved to Texas and Atlanta. No one has to be a rocket scientist to know that a criminal mind goes where they go.
@revolution: You sound confused. Since when do crime deterrents get blamed for oppressing someone? Criminals oppress themselves that's why cameras are needed. And I have yet to see some young, lazy punk who doesn't work during the day anyway but hopes to make a drug deal, suffering from any economic problems in this country. Get real, these are just excuses for the lazy people.
Yeah, they should specifically say where this crime is because all of its suburbs are labeled as Chicago. Same thing with St. Louis, all of its suburbs are listed under the city yet there are some safe, wonderful communities outside of the city of St. Louis itself.
I toured parts of Chicago near the Pier and downtown and had a wonderful, safe time.
I was born and raised on the Southside of Chicago (Bronzeville, and Chatham neighborhoods to be exact), but I moved to New York City last year for college. I just found out that I knew one of those people that were shot recently. I LOVE MY CITY but WE HAVE GOT TO DO BETTER! But Chicago has ALWAYS been like this and its sad that it takes something like this for people to notice. The only that thats changed since i've been growin up is, the killers are gettin younger. when it gets warmer, it will get crazier though...
