: Earlier in the week MediaTakeOut.com showed you a pic of UK artist Leona Lewis swagger jacking Mariah Carey. Now it looks like Mariah is fighting back. In a recent interview Mariah unleashed on the British Idol winner.

Honestly, there has been so many, 'This is the new her,' and I'm like, 'OK, show me the new her. Can she come and work for me and be my double?'And I'm not particular talking about this girl Leona, because I only heard her once and I didn't really hear a true similarity, particularly in the style of music.REEEEOWWW!!!!It is what it is and critics have compared me to so many people who are not really singers, and they're certainly not writers.
I know Mariah isn't. Her best album was her first, now all she does is baby talk. Touch My Body is just another example. Leona has an alright voice, but the music is so horrible that I can't stand listening. The industry always try to bait celebrities by saying she/he is the new she/he. Each are individuals in their own right. The number of singles, albums, and ringtones will speak for themselves.
Now I like Mariah, but she is hatin'...MC is now 38 yrs old and trying to stay ahead of all of the YOUNG and sexy up and coming artist...and MC needs to stop bc truth be told, no one wants to see a woman in her 40's rocking no minis and stilettos...it's sad, but that's how the music industry and the media are... Now this Leona chick, yes, she might have "swagger-jacked" her cover, but please, how many artists have done that over the years??? Countless!!! And the girl can sing...gotta give her props... I think what Mariah's problem is that she thinks that she's the Queen Diva Supreme...her voice is incredible, and she doesn't think anyone can outsing her...that maybe so in the music industry right now, but go get one of these girls in the church choir and we'll see!!! lol All I'm saying is she needs a slice of humble pie...bc @ the end of the day, everyone has their time to shine...and when your time is up, just past the torch onto the next generation!!!
Well I am definitely a Mariah Carey fan, but as far as Leona Lewis she is an excellent singer and I love her CD. Mariah needs to stop acting like that because there is always going to be new artist coming to the stage and being that she is a veteren she has to understand that alot of these new artist has looked up to her and people will continue to compare the ol' skool to the new skool.
Whatever...Mariah. I remember when Mariah first came out and everyone compared her to Whitney Houston. Mariah's style was overall different then than it is now (with all of the hip hop and R&B songs). Leona DOES sound a lot like Mariah and Whitney in certain parts of her songs where she hits high notes and does her little riffs, but eventually her own musical and vocal stylings will stick. Just like everyone else.
Mariah is right. That Leona Lewis doesn't have the vocal range to even rival Mariah's closest competitor....Christina Aguilera so for anyone to make any comparison is insane. Not to mention, vocally speaking, Leona has an annoying voice...all she is...is just pretty and can carry a note. I would put her in the category of maybe Rhianna or Kelly Roland...but never Mariah.
This is my prolem with Keyshia Cole, Rihanna, and Leona Lewis. I hate how people compare them to 10 year+ veterans who are still relevant and are actually the only ones still doing big things in the industry.
And Mariah does have good quality R&B songs on her albums once u get past the chart topping singles. The Emancipation was one of her best albums. Some of the comments ya'll leaving makes me think ya'll aint never even listened to her albums.

Mariah should respect Leona's praise towards her. I do understand that she's probably upset that Leona copied her cover, but she should think of it as: I am so good that singers fom other countries had to try and represent my genius. I like both of them, but they made so much hype about Leona that I made sure I heard her new song"Bleeding Love". Good song, but ummm NO SHE DOES NOT SOUND THAT MUCH LIKE MARIAH!!! Maybe scratching at those hi notes but that's about it. If pp did their hw, they would know that Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston, and Minnie Pimperton( and a few others)can sing to the highest ranges possible by the human voice. Their voices are higher than the notes opera sopranos in the vocal spectrum. Mariah herself is one of the few singers in history to be able to go to the lowest of lo's and the highest of hi's to be sung by anyone on the whistle register. I like Mariah most of all and I feel that anyone who does what Leona has done should just recognize Mariah as one of the greats. As for Mariah, stop bing such a biatch about stupd stuff, wearing the same type of clothes whenever everyone sees you- have my aunt-June Ambrose help you, start dancing or moving around when you sing instead of standing in one spot,grow a booty, have some kids to carry on your legacy once your time is up, and be more humble to ppl who lookup to u b/c you did the same thing when you were their age. For the record, you are still hot as fell and change your songs up a little bit so they don't all sound the same. M.C. does have some talent but people already know that she will never sing them strong high note songs . Most of her high notes consist of screaming like she is in a scary movie. Yes we all know she sells records but in all round the table conversations she will never be considered one of the best singers like Mary,Witney.

Also a "True" professional knows that hitting those high notes can make you pitchy, and seeing as how she doesn't wear mics or plugs in her ears (so she can hear herself), she holds her ear.

I was looking at VH1 the other day and saw Mariah's video's from the beginning to the present and there's a BIG difference in her singing and song content. Back in da day she her singing range was crazy a good example is the song "Make it Happen" Now she's more pop and bubble gum. Mariah definitely deserves her accolades, but we can't deny that watching Mariah can be downright painful at times. She is VERY insecure for someone so successful. Only time will tell if Leona Lewis will live up to the hype.

Since 1990, the record business has INVESTED moons on this lady, which is the REAL reason why she's been on radio, and why she's sold so much. They were determined to make sure REAL R&B/Pop songstresses like Whitney Houston (especially), Anita Baker, Stephanie Mills, etc..had less stroke...and skin color IS/WAS a factor, even IF "mimi" is mixed. The fact is that MTV was DYING for somebody with "the look" that wasn't Anita, Whitney, or Stephanie, but somebody that came close to having that adult contemporary/R&B/ballad voice. Of course, MTV continued to play Whitney, but when she went into the movies, that just made Mariah bigger...and even though both artists have had their breakdowns, it amazes me how MTV STILL pushes Mariah like a new coming. The ONLY artist that gets my respect on breaking records and possessing REAL talent is Michael Jackson, the KING! As far as Leona goes, I never understood this hype about her..but LOVE her song. I respect her a lot. Now I don't totally hate Mariah, but so many people actually purely by into this stupid sh!t that she (single handedly) sold all these albums and broke all these records, when she had the support of EVERY major music network, radio genre, and PLENTY of label backing..in order to carve her as the "new" star of the business and since she had "the look", she succeeded. She made music to appeal to inspirational crowds, R&B/urban crowds, people of various cultures and orientations, etc..so naturally, she made the right moves...CERTAINLY doesn't mean she was/is the best singer. Even when she hits her "unparalled" high note, it's not even STRONG or consistent. REAL female singers like Anita Baker, Shanice Wilson, En Vogue, Stephanie Mills, Patti Labelle, Betty Wright, Whitney, Aretha, Shirley Murdock, Miki Howard, Melba Moore, Deniece Williams, Tina Turner, Mary Jane Girls, Pointer Sisters, Donna Summers, Cheryl Lynn, Vesta..the LIST GOES ON..most of those women never had MTV support (besides Whitney and Tina, and Pointer Sisters maybe)...but in terms of depth, control, passion, emotion....the REAL elements of singing.....FAR eclipsed Mariah Carey in terms of talent, and to this day, still do! Mariah lacks so so so so so so so so so SO much in the singing department til it's an embarassment and her material has been lackluster at best since her Daydream album..becoming miss "free...emancipation...rainbow-ghetto-white chick" is the worst thing that's happened to her and demolished the small grain of credibility she had left. I could give a damn if she sells or not, as kids today will support ANY artist despite talent (and lack thereof)........it still doesn't make her anywhere near a good (or great) artist, and she still has LEGIONS upon LEGIONS of levels to reach until I see her as a legit talent. "E=MC2" sold 462,971 copies during the week ended April 20, according to Nielsen SoundScan data, the best debut sales week of her career and the strongest week by any artist so far this year.
Carey, 38, is now tied with Madonna and Janet Jackson for the second most No. 1 albums among female artists. Barbra Streisand, with eight, leads the pack. There's a good chance Madonna will add another No. 1 to her tally though, as her "Hard Candy" album comes out next week.
Carey's last album, the Grammy-winning "The Emancipation of Mimi," also landed at No. 1 in its premiere week, moving 403,755 copies in April 2005.
Singer/songwriter Jack Johnson had the best start this year, with 374,619 copies for his February chart-topper "Sleep Through the Static."
British pop singer Leona Lewis' debut album "Spirit" slipped one to No. 2 on the current Billboard 200 with 95,000 units in its second week.

Honestly, other than the fact that they are light-skinned Mulattas whom both happen to be good singers, I don't see any similarities between them.
