: LMAO!! Listen carefully at the anchors ... is that supposed to be CNN or MediaTakeOut.com ....
I saw this on Nancy Grace...the saddest thing of all in this video is that the girl(in the pink) doesnt have enough home training and/or respect to not want to do this type of thing. I cant even believe that whether she won loss or whatever, that people would think this was funny, or right. These kids need some discipline!
this is a hot mess. but on the news they said the student told the teacher she was gone pull her wig off, so when she came back to the class if i was the teacher i would've been ready to scrap 2, 'cause some of these lil' young azz bittches think fat meat aint greasy unless u chew on it. and do that child look like she got held back a few years, suppose to 15 or 16 yeah right in dog years. she had no business being in school need 2 b home takin' care of babies. instead of lettin' these mongrals go to school, they should make them prove that they should be allowed to go (instead of making it a requirement, make it a priviledge) without school these kids won't be able to compete with others in college, jobs, etc. it is sad that our kids generations is all about disrespecting, fighting, babies, etc.
if i was the teacher i'd stop her azz like Caine stomped that n^gga in menace 2 society, and dealt wit her momma, police or whoeva.
This is sooo damn sad. And notice how the anchors sound all animated about it! Now if it were white folks fighting like that they would have been all serious, and I know that's the truth.
I don't know what led to the fight, but I thank God I did not become a teacher. Teachers have it too hard, and they really don't get paid enough to put up with a lot of abuse from these bad a.z.z. out of control kids nowadays. I mean nobody stopped the fight or nothin'......SMH
Most people have no clue what goes on inside of our schools. Every day there is someone challenging you or trying to prove themselves to their classmates. This is my last year teaching because I'm on the verge of catching a case. If you say something about these bastards, the parents run to the administration. Too bad the other teachers didn't come in and help her beat the hell out of that demon. I'm sure she was terrorizing them as well.
MzNan33 Flag post if i was the teacher i'd stop her azz like Caine stomped that n^gga in menace 2 society, and dealt wit her momma, police or whoeva. -------------------------------- LMAO
Substitute teachers NEVER DID get any respect. I was probably the ONLY one in class that did treat her/him as if she was our actual teacher, not to mention, an authority figure, adult, somebody's mother/father. I remember back in High School, my French teacher (and I LOVED her to death) was about to whip this student's ass for talking about her daughter like a dog, OUTLOUD where EVERYONE could hear!! I wanted the lady to KICK HER ASS! B/c the girl was messy and ghetto and she NEEDED her ass beat!!! I can assure you, that student (in the video) mother WILL NOT do anything to her. They probably beat ppl up together.
the fact that people are worried about who won or lost is the stupidity that I am talking about. People this wasn't to show who won or lost(shaking head). you see why fewer people want to be teachers dealing with ignorant ass kids. then you get their ghetto parents defending their dumbass kids. Teachers have little power and are not being supported. I was in highschool and ever even tried pulling that nonsense with any teacher.
Yeah a 17 year old jumping on a 50 year old women. Just another example of how a lot of black parents suck that girl should have known better but obviously her parents did not teach her not to hit adults. The 17 year old is a child and should act like one. Parents look like idiots when they have children that are out of control.
Black people start taking control of your kids!!! And you wonder why crime is so high in black America, why kids are getting pregnant so early, because black parents are absent. I live in a mixed community and there are a lot of kids of different races that play out here, but usually it's the black kids that are out of control. A kid brought a fake gun to school, so when my daughter told me about it I informed the boys mother. Her response: my son doesn't own any toy guns, and he was riding his bike 5 minutes later. So I told her, he may have gotten it from a friend, but he knows not to bring guns to school, because every year they give students an awareness paper to sign. Schools in Ohio will suspend kids for bringing guns to school, real or fake. But she had that not my kid mentality, and it's so common in our community to overprotect the kids. No punishment, no nothing, because it couldn't be my child. People wake the F**K up, your kid is capable of anything when not disciplined or when hanging around the wrong crowd. Black people start being better parents or when your child is shot, or stabbed or in prison you will have no one to blame but yourselves. Tough love now, respect and responsibility later.
This is sad on so many levels.
You hear the girl in the background yelling get security.
Half of those students didn't even think this could be thier mother, nanna, aunt etc..
That girl's parents should be so proud look how she represents them in public.
Someone needs to beat those news anchors behind for glorifying the fight and comparing it to a damn hockey game. Only in America! What they really wanted to say was look at those wild animals such ni!!ers
For those of you who cant see properly THE TEACHER THREW THE FIRST PUNCH!!
Now that student had every right to defend herself that lady shouldve kept her hands to herself.
I dont give a damn what a student says to you. You are supposed to be a trained professional and educator.
If it was that bad she couldve had the girl removed from the classroom instead she steps to her and swings on her.. fucc up outta here!!
@Vainderby:
And some of you teachers are poor excuses for educators. Alot of teachers are in school to get paychecks and that is all. I am 21 and I have had my fair share of good teachers but alot of them are rude, insensitive, racist and mean!!
Dont get me wrong there are plenty of children who misbehave and are downright disrespectful and they should be warned and then kicked the hell out of school. But that would almost be too easy. Schools receive money for the students and they arent trying to let that go. As for insufficient teachers being reprimanded thats not going to happen because of the teachers union and the fact that people arent exactly rushing to teach anymore.
Its all a game and its going to be one because this country continues to make MOLEHILLS out of MOUNTAINS!! If something is HUGE they want to minimize it and its ridiculous!!
@MzNan:
"cause some of these lil' young azz bittches think fat meat aint greasy unless u chew on it."
LOL !!!
***ALL BLAMING THE FIGHT ON THE KID NEEDS TO READ***
It's interesting how everyone is blaming the incident on the kid, when in reality ya'll don't know how it really started. Some teachers don't like kids but chose the job because it was an easier profession than other careers. I had a teacher that blatantly didn't like me and picked on me while I was in her class and tried to pick on me even after I got out of her class.<<She talked about me to other students and tried to write me a referral because she noticed she couldn't get to me mentally but the dean threw it out because he knew I was good kid and didn't have any behavioral problems in my background>>. This was after my mother had meetings with her supervisors and I got removed from her class. TEACHERS DO LIE AND CHANGE THEIR STORY WHEN PARENTS AND THEIR AUTHORITY COMES AROUND!!!**I also had a substitute that came in with a nasty attitude & demeanor. She told us "I'm a B**** ya'll probably already heard abot me, I don't mess with other people kids, so just do your work** PEOPLE NEED TO REALIZE ^! YOU NEED TO GIVE RESPECT IN ORDER TO RECIEVE IT^! I dont care if you dealing with a toodler or senior citizen the same rule applies! (Oh and it works too even with the so-called ghetto kids ya'll talkin bout)
I understand what you are saying about teaching. I’m a LCSW and I get the children after you guys have attempted to deal with them in every way possible. The parents flip the script and blame you guys for the issues with the children in the schools then bring to me and say fix this. I say it starts within the home and the majority are in denial and start to go off. It seams as if children are not being taught morals and values and as a result have simply gone wild. I can understand why you want to leave, I’m sure it's the same reason I’m looking to work in a different aspect of SW but in the process remember why you wanted to teach and know that you have the ability to at least make the difference in one Childs life and making the difference in one life could be the beginning of creating a cycle of positivism by healing one child one day at a time.
***DAMN*** It's not right. But, some of these teacher are young too. Last year I had to meet my son teacher.Hell, I was 13 years old than her. Don't get me wrong, she could have been a good teacher. But, my son didn't find out. I had him removed.. To a teacher that had 10 years of teaching under her belt and she could understand my type of thinking.(real talk) You see we couldn't tell who the teacher or the student was.(the teacher was in the white)..But, that's here nor there. It's still sad.
@ fox When parents bcame to lazy to rear the kids themselves and turned to teachers (8-4), then the tv (4-6) then video games (6- the time they take a bath if they do or till they go bed ) to do the job for them oh and the weekends well that is outside time, video games, hanging out with the friends then mama nem gotta do grown folks stuff so ummm .... there u have it @Shanny 07 I agree with some of what you said but teachers are not paid a lot maybe one day they will be paid based on individual performance and as a result maybe it would wean out the individuals that don't belong in the class. I think 95% of teacher that obtained a degree in education with emphasis on Elementary- Secondary education are the good teachers .You have to remember that you have individuals teaching that may not have a degree in Education but in something else and is certified to teach .Maybe the teachers that don’t care never had a passion for educating children in the first place The non caring teachers may be those teachers who initially chose other career fields that maybe didn't work out so well and as a result decided something easy would be to hop in a class . You just have to look at it from various views. As for being trained to be professional I mean does that mean you should not defend yourself (not saying that was the case here)? I carry mace and will spray the [EXPLETIVE] out of a client that attempts to attack me.
I'm a sub in GA too but personally I didn't become certified because it was an easier profession, I began tutoring and actually enjoyed it and although I look like a freshman in highschool, the kids still respect me b/c I have patience. I sub in some of the worst schools here but yet and still none of the kids have stepped to me like that and if they did, I would be evaluating myself b4 blaming them cause obviously its something about that lady's attitude or deameanor that got under those students skin. And I agree with everyone that said she could have taken it to a higher authority but being in a classroom, it's not that easy. Either the higher authority blames you or they dismiss it and tell you to figure out a better way to handle the situation. The point of the matter is that this child had the guts to disrespect a 50 year old woman without hesitation and the 50 yr old woman was disrepectful to herself and those kids for indulging in this foolishness. So now what? all those kids that were watching are gonna feel like they have every right to do the same thing and then it becomes a trend. Straight bulls**t!
The one with the white on (id badges) is the teacher. According to another teacher from the school, the lady kicked the girl in the leg on her way out of the room and the girl whooped her azz. So don't be so quick this time to blame the student. Secondly, this is the suburbs, which I will always maintain has the worst kids. I have many friends that work with these kids. They tell me all the time that the black people with a little money are the worst.
Those of you who are defending the child need to go and sit in on some of these classes. You cannot teach a child anything without the support of the parents and the administration. I became a teacher because of the lack of African-American teachers who really care. In my district, I am the only African-American Math teacher. I chose Math because our kids are given up on daily. I can't teach a child who has parents at home that don't care. I have called parents, been to their homes, and invited them into discussions on how to get their children to care about THEIR futures. They either don't show for the meetings, make empty promises, or blow me off. I have offered to tutor these children and not have anyone show up. I was passing out detentions for homework just so I could help them. Please don't tell me that I don't care. I wasn't there for a check. I was there when some of you parents were not. I'm tired of watching these children throw their lives away and irresponsible parents not care. Shanny, darling, you can go to hell. If you have not been in my shoes, you can't say a dayum thing about what I've been through.
SHANNY07 - I commend you. When I was in college, most people chose the 'education' route because it was easy. They could party and be wild while still getting an education. They were honestly the bottom of the totem poll. Then these are the people who go on to teach our children! Kids can't be blamed for all of this. When I ride past schools in DeKalb County, you can't tell who's a teacher and who's a student. My neices tell me that all of the black teachers come to work to relive their high school years. They try to dress like/better than the children, they gossip about the children and keep up most of the drama amongst the kids. She said they belittle some of the children because they have cars and other things. I believe her. When I was in high school 10 years ago, I felt the same way about many of my black teachers. Our teachers tried to hang with us on weekends, etc. To me that's sad. Nothing has changed. This isn't the first fight in DeKalb County this month, let alone this school year. This is the only one to make national news. I won't start on the women throwing themselves at the little boys...
For all of you people blaming rappers for any kittle thing, blame parents and teachers. They really ARE role models. I am so glad I chose a profession where I had to earn my position. I have to stay doing so to keep it.
WOW..DA teacher was giving her a run for her money...d@mn shame these kids dont have any respect for authority figures anymore, if i had done dat back in da days i would've got 2 more @ss whompings from my mom an dad...parents need to go back to the roots of raising a child, this is just ridiculous! Da SUB should've threw dat lil ghetto @ss tramp on da floor an beat her @ss wit a belt, an sat on her till da police came, an locked dat gutter rat up!
The teacher was wrong for swinging, yes. However, parents, black, white, brown yellow, most of yall need to understand that Teachers are not babysitters! Kids are supposed to go to school to learn and get an education, not to be watch guards for your kids. Parents need to be more involved with their kids education. Parent-teacher's night is not meant to be a nuisance cause you'd rather make that paper. it serves a purpose! When I was in grade school, all of my teachers said the same thing "Its always the parents of the students that do well who shows up, not the ones that need help." I'm not saying I was the best student, but my parents stayed involved and beat my tail when I f@@ked up.
Damn what happened to the days when you told ur parents you got reprimanded in school and you got more licks for it. Now it's mostly these younger parents that would want to f*ck up the teacher for doing their job. SMFH
Its time for blacks to unite and stop with the fighting and killing each other, thats the only way that were going to get it done in america and start truely "running things" . Today you hear kids talk about "Im hard I'm not scared of nothing or nobody" but at the first sign of trouble they pull out a gun or a knife that expose the truth of anyone who have to use a weapon at the first sign of a disagreement, ALot of people put most of todays violence on young black males, but also you have to check or females too because alot of younger ladies like that type of guy,I heard this guy ask this girl for her number, the first thing she asked him was you don't look tough enough fo me, do you get into fights, sell drugs, he said no, then she said well atleast have you been to jail, he said no, well I don't want to talk to you then.... I know its not all people but its definately a problem young males need to grow up and learn how to be a leader and not just a follower, and the young women need to set the standards of A type of man they would want in the future, and not glorify the "so called phony thug life"....
It's a shame how some of these young black youth act towards adults and elders these days, especially black girls that are fast, obnoxious and have that hoodrat mentality. I had to get a bunch of lil hoodrats thrown out of the movie the other day, because they wouldn't stop talking in the theatre and then they start cursing at me. I was like I'm glad I'm not their parents, because they would be six feet under.
GHETTO TRASH! HER ASS NEED TO BE DETAINED AND PUT IN A CELL WHERE HER ANIMALISTIC ASS BELONG! #1 THATS AN OLDER WOMAN, OLD ENOUGH TO BE HER MOTHER #2THATS A PROFESSIONAL TEACHER HERE TO HELP YOUR DUMB ASS LEARN SOMETHN. DAMN WHATS WRONG WITH THESE KIDS NOW, THEY THINK THEY'RE INVINSIBLE! I HOPE THEY SHOW HER ASS SHE NOT!
It's so easy for someone on the outside to judge this situation. To whom ever said the teacher made the first punch, maybe your right. BUT WHY WAS THAT STUDENT SITTING ON THE TEACHERS DESK? She probably was being real disrespectful and didn't think the teach would do anything.
I'm just saying I know how I was in school. I was a real mess! very mouthy (I made that world up LOL)very disruptive. I always wanted to be the center of attention. I won three awards in middle school for class clown, most outspoken, and most outgoing. So I can understand what teachers go through looking back.
[EXPLETIVE] I would have swung on me to if I was a teacher no lie!
@ mocha - i made the comment. i live in atlanta. the reports state that the teacher was verbally provoking the girl. at first the child wasn't responding. so of course the woman kept it up (you know how some of us can be) then the student joked with her friends that she would snatch the lady's wig off. when they (students)were leaving the class, the old lady snatched her wig off and told the student that she already had it off and there was nothing the girl could do now. then the teacher proceeded to kick the girl in the leg. i don't know why she's sitting on her desk but i would have hit her back to. it's not because you're the eldest you get the respect. people give respect to get it. this is why this teacher has been charged with assault. i bet she didn't expect an ass whooping that day but she got it.
trust me, i'm not excusing any of it.
Yes black people! Keep acting an ass to give the media what they want. "You don't pull people's hair , let me tell ya!" What she wanted to say was, "You don't mess with a black woman's hair, let me tell ya!"
I'm a teacher and the stuff that we have to put up with is ridiculous. And I must say, that teacher's are more burned out and frustrated nearing the last few weeks of school. And that was a sub-I could NEVER be a sub. Kids give them such a hard time.
I would say that I would whoop my daughter's ass if I found out she did this, BUT my daughter has home training, discipline, and respect. It will never get to that level.
Kids are f*cked up. I was driving one day and I saw a group of teenage boys spit on an old lady for no reason. She couldn't do anything because she was by herself. They fail to realize that their elders was once young like them. They will get old and they will demand respect, even though they don't give it.
As an educator I would have never put a substitute in an in school suspension room. The school is at fault for this one. The sad part about it is the fact that the teacher is going to lose her job for this incident. Its a sad day when a teacher cant teach because of fear of being assaulted by a student in class.
damn shame when the videos make it to the forums before mediatakeout sorry asses even figures out what happened...this story was stolen from the forum on yesterday when "I" posted it.
*sidenote* Old gurl(teacher) shole did work it without loosing that damn wig. & to be in her Fifties, she throwed some blows but I bet dat ass was sore the next day.
Vainderby I know you not lying.....lol .There was a teacher that attempted to contact a students mother because of all of the behavior problems she was having with him .After leaving several messages and the mother not getting back to them the teacher asked me if I could attempt to contact the parent being that I was her Childs therapist (oh n he’s only 8) well of course she did not respond to my calls either. Her child was removed from the school and sent to another school where they had self contained classrooms. The mother received a call and a note in reference to the reasons why this had to happen .She immediately contacted me and started going off on the teacher stating how she was gonna do this and that and how the school is just doing that because her son is afro -American well anyway after she went off I stated to her that I too attempted to schedule a home visit, counseling sessions with the family and all and never received a response from her until then. I informed her that the decision would stand and I had no control over it .Of course she had to go off on me and tell me I was a token negro who was kissing the white folks ass and blah blah blah and then told me she was gonna come to the school to whup my mofo ass because I did not know what the [EXPLETIVE] I was doing (take in mind her son had been in therapy for at least a year with no progress).Make a long story short I UNDERSTAND WHERE YOU COMING FROM AND I take my hats off to ALL OF YOU TEACHERS THAT HAVE POSTED ON HERE ...I'M SURE YOU GUYS EXPERIENCE ISSUES WITH CHILDREN DAILY THAT PREVENT YOU FROM BEING ABLE TO ALL THAT YOU CN FOR THE CHILDREN THAT WANT TO LEARN.
The student must have been talking [EXPLETIVE] like they said she was going to pull her wig off. She is sitting on the teachers desk waiting on her to come in. Of course it is the girls friends who is recording the video so we don't actually hear or see what happen in the beginning.
Teachers don't get paid enough to handle other people's bad ass kids, and subsitute teachers get it worst. What if that was her first day at the school. She might want to think of a career change before retiring.
And, some kids now days just don't have no respect.
And, for MTO to say the student won. What a shame. If I would speak on who won, I would go with th 50 year old school teacher. That student is lucky that lady is none of my relative I will be on the first non-stop flight to Georgia to beat her ass, her mommas, her daddy, her neightbors and anybody else who got a problem with it. And it was mention in a post above about they would have beat her like Caine did in Meance to Society. I would have went down the line and knocked out every student in that class because no one stepped up to stop it.
As a parent I do feel a little like the girl should have known better. But as a student I do know and understand how kids can be provoked. I used to go to the school in question and the subs there did try to act like they were the be all and end all in authority around there. They acted like they could say what they wanted and people would just be ok with it. But to the person that made a comment about the girls community being hood and she is probably a poor hood rat, trust there is nothing hood about the area that this school is in. Nothing at all. The majority of the students at Stephenson are snotty rich kids who think the sun rises and sets on them. So basically this girl is to blame for her actions as is the teacher. Because she was the adult and should have walked the hell away.
A lot of the comments are along the lines of "these damn kids"...however that is shortsighted...Just as there are cops who abuse their authority and go over the line, there are teachers today who have absolutely no degree of professionalism and act more like petty children than the kids they are supposed to be teaching. From sleeping with students to provoking kids that they know have mental health issues, there are teachers in our schools who are dropping the ball of responsibility. Its certainly true that some of the youth have issues, but I am not about to give the teachers a free pass on this one.
In certain situations, an adult has to be an adult...There is no excuse for this, and I have to believe that there had to be a way for the teacher to keep this situation from blowing up like this. She should have been the bigger person, and if that didnt work, get the principal, or the school police if they have them, involved. But for going out like that, the teacher should never, ever be allowed into another classroom again....
Esoteric has obviously never taught in an inner city school. I applaud the devils advocate attempt but that student clearly went for the teacher. In my school system there have been teachers to sue the students for crap like this and win. When you take corporal punishment out of schools kids will tell you to your face what you better not do and this young lady looks like no exception. These kids come to school with no home training and their parents expect you raise them but will cut a flip when you put their child in their place. Are their shady teachers? Of course just as their are shady individuals in all walks of life. However, there are more teachers there to help than hurt. I have had teachers do things to me that are not acceptable however, I was raised to go to the appropriate authorities over my teachers. If anything, the teacher probably appeared to weak and the student decided to test her. My classroom climate is one of mutual respect and my kids know not to ever raise up on me. They know not to be fooled by my demeanor or appearance.
esotericdredz You are right .You have people that abuse authority all the time .I will say that when it comes to "these damn kids"... fault the parents first and the parents and well you get it. I work with individuals (adults and children) families and unfortunately couples. When I receive a client that was referred by the school or when I’m in the schools working with the children I will say that when ( if I’m ever able to ) meet with the parents the first thing they say is I think he/she has ADD or ADHD and they immediately want meds for the child and a letter from me stating a diagnosis so that they can run down to SSI for a check .In the 90% of the cases parents never want to start with other alternatives it's gimme that letter and where do I have to go to get the meds because I can't deal with this , I can't put up with this .I suggest counseling for the parents also and of course 90% of the time oh we don't need it [EXPLETIVE] it and if you not giving me a letter I don't want my child to see you . Now here you have children that are in need of help that 9 out of 10 will never get it based on the parents ignorance as a result the children take the issues into the classroom for teachers who jobs are simply to educate them and well cause a hiatus which is probably just the only way they know how to cry out for help. Anyway you have kids in need of help, teachers that can't teach because of the individuals unattended issues and hey we blame the educators and other members of society for it. I mean when will we start holding stricter rules for parents and making them be held accountable for the actions of minor children ....I bet if stricter rules were in place you would see a different type of parenting . The entire situation with that child and teacher is just sad none of us saw the entire thing, we don't know what was said, we don't know. Regardless of whatever happened it should have been dealt with before it got out of control .Oh yeah why are kids allowed to bring cell phones to school anyway?
Ok, I didn't even read any posts because nobody can speak on this unless you have walked a day in a teacher's shoes, just be quiet. Today we teachers have to be role models, police officers, counselors, (because the counselors in the schools don't do anything, and parents. Teacher's wear many faces and DON'T get paid what we should. So guess what, if anyone of my student's ever tried to step to my face, they would get the same treatment. These student's think they are grown. I remember coming up, teacher's would spank you and wash your mouth out, and people I came up with have SENSE because of discipline. Today the police officers never get to the class on time when something is going on, TEACHER'S HAVE TO DEFEND themselves at any means, these kids are CRAZY today. So nothing should happen to this teacher, and if something does, you will HEAR MY MOUTH, BELIEVE THAT. Until we GET WHAT WE NEED IN THESE SCHOOLS THINGS LIKE THIS WILL CONTINUE.
Ok, now that I am reading, I can't believe some of these young, dumb, people. TEACHERS don't come to work to fight, they come to teach and watch over the kids. I can't believe what the world is coming to, that is why many educators have left their positions because of this madness, and the adminstration. Please WAKE up.
Why are teachers getting blows here? I mean folks seriously Children are in school the most part of the day , what happens when they go home ?I mean parents do parenting on weekends now and from 4 to 8 4 hours I mean come on now give educators a break .As for teaching being an east curriculum lol that is just dead wrong college.
@MNS, you better PREACH. That would have never happened in 1940. When that gansta rap started, it made many (I am not saying all) young men and many women want to be THUGS and that is not cool. It hasn't stopped, it has only gotten worse. Everywhere you look there it is, pants low, etc, etc, trying to be TOUGH, trying to curse someone out. Be yourself, you know right from wrong, why would you hit a teacher, that is a PUNK MOVE, they don't make the school rules, be mad at the SYSTEM, who enforces the rules that we have, that aren't helping our schools or communities.
Yeah, it is some teachers that should not be teaching, but everyone has an attitude, do you all expect teachers not to have one, we are HUMAN. We deal with a LOT, but we don't take it out on the kids, that is unprofessional. The one's that do need to pick another profession. The issue here is respect. I don't care if you don't like me, you are going to respect me. It is a lot of teachers, I didn't like, but guess what I never disrespect them in any way. That is this issue here. DISRESPECT. I am done posting on this topic, I don't usually triple post, but in this case I did.
LOL @ cinnamonsinger....Seriously, you sound like one of those people who tells a person who has been abused by the cops to "just go file an internal affairs report"...It's not so simple as "just respect authority" when people in authority at times abuse the power and authority they are given...And you cant always trust the "appropriate authorities" to do the right thing....In my work i've seen times where its taken getting lawyers involved and the threat of litigation just to get some (not all) schools to even provide services needed by underprivileged special needs kids. I know there are tough kids out there, but schools are choosing to charge kids criminally for things that once were given detention...(disorderly conduct for arguments, criminal charges for a fight on the playground, etc)..and they are choosing to try to expel kids with mental health issues at the first sign of trouble rather than updating IEP's, getting appropriate evaluations and trying to work with them....
I'm not saying its ALL schools or teacher's fault...never that...But lets not act like they are beacons of morality totally beyond blame....that's naive and straight out the 50's...
Look I have worked in the trenches of the juvenile justice system and have worked personally with inner city kids facing charges ranging from shoplifting to murder....And my father taught at a underfunded, underprivileded public school for 39 years before retiring at the end of last year...So I have plenty of perspective. And even in this type of situation, the adult authority figure has a duty and obligation to carry themselves with a level of class, dignity and respect, not to stoop down to a street level and get caught on tape squaring up like they are outside the club at 2:30 a.m. She wasn't just defending herself, she was aggressive throughout. Its an embarrassment for this teacher and the school for her to go out like that...even worse if the kid was a special needs kid who was provoked, rather than calmed down, by the teacher, as reports seem to suggest.
@ wifeytype....I agree with you....parents have to be more involved and accountable....EVERYONE needs to do better for our youth...Parents, Schools, Government (Social Services, creating more summer jobs for youth, better funding for schools and services and programs in the community). Everyone has to step up.
I too am a teacher. I work at a school where the campus police wear bullet proof vests daily! Yes, the school year is coming to an end and the natives are getting restless. This year, I have seen my share of the crying teachers. Not first year teachers but first year at our school. I have earned my respect with the youth. How? Because I'm just like them. You have to be able to wear to faces. They say "I preach too much" and I say "so what,I don't care". Our babies need life and coping skills. Granted they are terrors and sad too say you already know the that will end up behind bars. I look at them and pray that they will surprise me. They don't have respect for authority. You hear all day long "I'm grown". But, no on takes responsibility or accountability for their actions it is always someone elses fault. They refused to do homework. What's really sad is calling parents is a joke. Teachers do have their own families believe it or not. After awhile a teacher becomes disenchanted with the job esspecially at low income schools. I have had kids come to class blazed up. Some spend the majority of the semester suspended. I asked child if he is going to constantly disrupt the class (all classes included) why did he bother coming to school. He said " my mother said she needs her eight hours". I then said why not bypass the bus stop. He then replied "I don't have anywhere else to go". Don't think less of me for the conversation we had while waiting on security. In total 45 minutes of class time was lost. For one child, that didn't want to be there. He was kicked out of the school later in the semester. Do you really want to know how rough it gets? Check out school fights on youtube. Then asked yourself could you be in that environment daily. Let alone have to break up the fights. One thing I will not allow is for you to fight in my presence!!! That's when I get ghetto and gutta. Otherwise, we gucci.
Parents step up and take a stand. Because our children are failing and falling fast
It is easy for people on the outside looking in to say negative things about many situations. I think many people need to walk a day in our shoes. We deal with a whole lot and don't get paid. I have never had to deal with a ignorant parent, but I have seen it, in most cases who think their kids are angels, adminstration, and the public. I see why many, teachers leave, it is enough to DRIVE YOU CRAZY. Worring about trying to keep your students test scores up, the kids come in high, argumentative, etc,. I really love what I do but, what you have to deal with takes the enjoyment out of it.
The problem is the school system. Do you know what happens to students after they jump on a teacher...nothing! ...and the teacher is always in the wrong in this situation beause the school board always defend the children regardless if student is in the wrong or not. The school system do not back the teachers up anymore. I remember someone telling me that a teacher nowadays can be fired if a good amount of students fail. How can students learn an a environment similar to this? This is the norm of many public schools nowadays so imagine how much kids these days are learning nowadays. Obviously not much and it's because the school system is unstable.
People need to stop blaming always blaming the kids. Do we know that kids carry baggage to school just like adults carry to work. I'm not defending the kids cause their behavior is wrong weather their being taught or not but kids are a refelection of their parents. When I see kids acting out, I wonder about the parents. Most kids do not act out for no reason unless something is wrong with them. The other source of the problem is the parents.
Dang NAILS lol I was with you but I have to disagree with this right here
(Because the counselors in the schools don't do anything)
I am a therapist (ok it’s a nicer word for counselor lmao) and I work at several schools in my area and I will say that we get the same punishment from the students as you guys lol .I network in the community in an effort to reach as many children as possible in hopes that I could just change one life. I send memos out to parents through teachers with my contact info and basically telling them about the services I provide through the school system and outside. Not only do I provide therapy but I assist with school supplies, coats, shoes and well you get it .Take in mind that I'm not paid extra nor do I receive a stipend to do any of this I solicit ( I like to call it call in favors) but anyway I solicit fiends, family, colleges, individuals that I’ve met through networking to assist me in being able to provide some of the extras .I challenge them thought out the year to assist in being a part of the village that is needed to help the kids. The folks at local supermarkets usually call me and let me know when they are having lil clearance sales on things I may b able to use. The bakery donates snacks to me for the kids willing to get extra help after school.
In reference to this statement
I remember coming up, teacher's would spank you and wash your mouth out, and people I came up with have SENSE because of discipline. I agree that students are lacking discipline in the home and school. My son attends a private Christian school and umm they still paddle lol . The parent has to sign a form upon admission to the school stating that in the event that a child has to be disciplined that you grant the appropriate staff the right to paddle your child. You can opt to not have the assigned staff paddle your child but you have to sign a form stating that you will paddle the child oh and you have to come to the school and do the paddling .It is not like ok I’ll get em when he come home you have to go to the school. I will say that I know that all the kids in the schools are not angles but they asses disciplined liked a mofo lmao
This is so sad - you can see the student walks up to the teacher (in the pink) and starts it but then the teacher starts to throw a punch in her defense - but the punch doesn't land - and it goes from there. The students got some good licks when she took the teacher by the hair, but the teacher landed a few good hits as well.
Kids these days are out of control and it is because their parents do not spend any time with them. When kids become teens parents start just providing food, and shelter as if they are rooming a visitor instead of parenting their children. As a teacher in a black school, I am going to say I was really disappointed when I found out that in large numbers black parents are really treating their kids as if they are equal to adults and have rights to be disrespectful. I hope the teacher doesn't go to jail it is obvious that she was calling security and wanted someone to stop the girl yet, she hit her too. When black families come together that is when black children will be much more respectful and sucessful.
I have been reading these posts for the last few days and as a teacher in an urban school, many of you are hitting on issues teachers confront daily:
1. Parents often have "unresolved" issues from when they were in school (some they caused, some caused by teacher's we provoked them). Instead of putting their situation into context, these parents pass their bias on to their children who ACT a fool because they know RIGHT OR WRONG; the parent will back them up.
IN THIS CASE, IF THE STUDENT WAS KICKED, WHY DIDN'T SHE HAVE THE COMMON SENSE TO INFORM THE ADMINISTRATION AND LET THEM HANDLE IT AS OPPOSED TO THREATENING THE TEACHER?
In California, the Education Code states that by the student saying "she would pull off the teacher's wig", is a threat and is considered a crime in itself.
WHY DIDN'T THE TEACHER REPORT THE THREAT INSTEAD OF GOING BACK CHALLENGING THE GIRL?
I think both are at fault. The teacher should have walked away.
Just last week a student cursed me out for me trying to enforce a school rule (students need a pass to be in the hallway at lunchtime). She proceeded to call her mom(on a cell phone, hence breaking another school rule) because "I disrespected her".Do you think the mom told her child to follow the rules and listen to the teacher? Oh no, she proceeded to curse me out in the main office and threat to beat my a**.
Now I could of gotten caught up in a "[EXPLETIVE] moment", but instead I stood there and smiled at her the whole time. I wanted to choke her out, but I refused to lower myself to be on her level. I politely walked away with my job, my dignity, and my head held high WITHOUT SAYING ONE WORD in response to her ignorant behavior.
So to anyone who is NOT a TEACHER you do not know what we go through, IT IS NOT EASY.
Parents, teach your kids to respect elders including the right way to handle problems if elders aren't respecting them.
Agree@All the people with sense on this blog saying this kid should know better and its her parents fault.
I see parents all the time with their little disrespectful demon kids thinking everything they do is cute and they can have the baddest kids in the world and will not discipline their kids. They are the worse parents in the world and they defend everything their terrible children do.
I blame the out of control child and the parents who don't teach their children better than to hit a 50 year old woman in school disrupting the learning of everyone else or did you forget thats what kids go to school for is to learn. Are you serious? How can you retarded people on here defend a child hitting an elder???? We can tell this is the crack generation.
Provoked to hit a teacher??? The child should have just got her bags and walked out of class she is 17 years old if all this is true.. She doesn't have the common sense to know to just walk out of class. The door was right there. The teacher was a sub. The kid has terrible parents lol Everyone wants to blame things on special needs children but even really mentally retarded people know how to act better than this. I am tired of people blaming out of control kid on special needs instead of no control parents. Some people just don't teach their kids nothing at all and they are dumb little people that grow up to be dumber bigger people and they breed.
steriletwists- I realize you deal with this and that, but that is the same attitude that makes kids come to school and feel like they can do exactly what they wanna do and get away with it. It is individuals with this same outlook that make my job difficult. Do our children need all the help they can get absolutely but as an educator you have to exert that control from the start. That was a 17 year old girl who had her friend taping so I would definitely not assume that she had any kind of mental disorder. Kids get rowdy as soon as it gets a little warm outside. That girl thought she could test that substitute and get away with it. As a result she went to blows. As I posted earlier and you obviously didn't read, I said that most teachers are here to do more help than harm not all teachers are a "beacon of morality" as you said I implied. Since there is no longer corporal punishment kids have to have stricter punishments. I can't speak for every school system but where I work we have In School Suspension and many time suspending a child is the only way to get their parent up to school to even address what is going on. Not to mention there are many kids in special needs whose mothers only put them there to get a check. I bet that girl won't put her hands on another teacher.
@ cinnamonsinger, the fact that you try to interject name calling into an intellectual discourse illustrates that you have the same lack of maturity that some teachers, inculding the one in the video, possess...The tendency to deal with things on a juvenile level rather than rise above it and handle it like a responsible adult.
To say that rolling up ones sleeves and engaging in a lengthy brawl is a necessary form of "exerting control" is crazy....It just serves to make the teacher look like a hood rather than a professional. The teacher took the low road, stooped to a level beneath her profession, and she should end up jobless because of it.
And saddling kids with criminal records that will potentially impact their future, as a lot of principals are doing, over behaviors kids have been doing since the beginning of time...rather than alternatives like suspensions, evaluations, etc...ends up just further compromising young people that already have enough strikes against them already. That is NOT the type of strict punishment that benefits youth, especially young black youth.
What are you talking about? Who is calling names? What did I call you? Don't question my ability as an educator because I assure you that my students nor my cohorts share your perception of me. Once again you are not reading what I am saying. There is an element of control that needs to be set in the classroom from day one and my classroom has that environment, and not from me putting my hands on anyone. My point was that the teacher resorted to that action because she did not have that element of respect or control from the beginning. Maybe it was do to the fact that she was only a sub and the kids are just getting out of control because the year is almost over. I also stated that my school uses In School Suspension. This is another way to keep kids in school without sending them home, mostly to keep attendance percentages high. Don't know where you live but we are not charging kids with anything in my district and they act like they know there will be no consequences for their actions. You cannot condone a student throwing the first blow at a teacher. The student was not small and not backing down so what would you have done? I don't do what you do and you don't do what I do, so suck it up and get a grip! Try what is called generous listening (or in your case reading) don't be in such a hurry to respond that you don't even understand the point I am trying to make. That results in pointless posts like the one above.
I am a fine arts teacher for the Memphis City Schools. I teach at a charter school. The kids go to school 6 days a week. The kids of today are from a very different breed than when we were in school. I am completely on the teacher's side because children today are completely over the top and think they are grown as hell.
Everybody can take this anyway they want. I don't care if you are a kid, not a kid, mentally challengedor not. If you put your hands on me. I am kicking your a$$ then you can call your mother then we can go to blows too and yes I am a teacher. That's the problem with today's society. The kids have the upper hand. They can get away with anything and they know nothing will happen to them. They don't have respect for anyone not even their own parents! I will not be disrespected by anyone espcially not a d@mn child!! Crimsonsongstress, I completely agree with your statements. People on here talking about what they have seen and been through like they are the only ones who deal with kids on a daily basis.
Then Esotericdredz has the nerve to say that someone has the lack of maturity to be a teacher. But isn't he the one that called you out of your name first but he got upset when you called him steriledredz! Dont dish it out if you can't take it. Then to call someone immature. First of all, people should be glad anyone goes to school 4 years or more to recieve their degree to teach these bad a$$ kids.Instead of preparing to teach at a school, it's like you are preparing to be in a warzone. I teach because I want to make a difference and inspire children. That is my goal. I also coach several different teams in sports. So people should be happy that there are people who want to make a differencine by mentoring and teaching young people but again I will not be disrespected by a child who doesn't want to learn and cause trouble. I understand some kids are going through alot at home or don't have a parent to teach them right from wrong. But that still doesn't give that child the right to put their hands on anyone. And as far as kids getting tough punishement some of them deserve it. If you want to act and be grown. Then you should get the same punishments like someone that is grown.
This was sad but i don't know what video yall lookin at, that teacher whooped that lil girl's *ss and she deserved it. She whooped her like "I've been dealing with yo *ss all year come get it". Ain't no telling how much that lil girl did all throughout the year. Kids don't get diciplined anymore so hey she did what her mother didn't do.
@ memdancediva, it scares me that someone with your mentality is allowed to have any type of close contact with impressionable young people...
So "people should be glad anyone goes to school 4 years or more to recieve their degree to teach these bad a$$ kids"??? So you're a martyr for doing the job you CHOSE to do? GTFOH with that...If they are so damn, bad, then take yourself somewhere else then. Young black youth in our inner cities need people who WANT to be there and who WANT to help them make their situations better, not some Bill Cosby wannabe's to sit and tear them down more.
Those children that you choose to put down and villify need someone with patience and understanding, NOT just another person to tell them what bad azzes they are...I am sure they have gotten enough of that where they are coming from in the first place.
I said all along, I know the job isnt easy, but you know what, LOTS of jobs arent easy...You take a job that has a lot of responsibility, either live up to it or hit the bricks....Cops have difficult jobs too, but when they cross the line and fail in their duty to protect and serve, their behinds need to be fired, or in some cases, criminally charged, too....Teachers are held to the same standard in my book...And there is no place for a teacher sitting there and battling with a student rather than handling things in a professional manner.
So I agree...You all have a tough job, and those of you who do it well should feel proud. But dont sit here and act like Black youth should bend down and kiss your feet because you are doing what you are SUPPOSED to do...Take that bougoise nonsense somewhere else.
Here's what's sad...the People closely involved in the case KNOW the teacher was in the wrong as well...
The school district stated "The DeKalb County School System does not condone the behavior recently displayed by the substitute teacher. This was an unfortunate and isolated incident that does not depict the standard of learning environment that we expect and maintain at each of our schools."
The school district confirms that she was wrong. The POLICE confirm that she was wrong because they charged her criminally as well....
So defend that "teacher" all you all want...She can take her behind to court and tell it to the judge....Then hop in the unemployment line where she belongs.
I could have sworn that memdancediva said the she was there to inspire and help. We teach bad kids this is a fact. We also teach great kids with lots of potential. We want to bring out the best in our kids. Just because we refer to them as bad outside of the classroom does not mean we make them fill this way in the classroom. More generous reading please. What about what black youth are supposed to do? Not only teachers. It sounds like you just expect all black youths to be messed up. Why black youth why not all youth?
And if the police and the district attorney do their jobs properly, the student will be charged with misdemeanors (disorderly and simple assault) while the teacher should be charged with a felony (assault with a dangerous weapon) because she is the one who picked up a damn show and hit the girl with it...
For those who dont know....Even IF you are fighting in self defense and are not the initial aggressor, if you escalate the level of violence by interjecting something that can be used as a weapon into the fray, you are STILL liable for not only assault but a felony level of assault.
That's right! And I am going to keep my same mentality and again I say if you put your hands on me child or no child. I am kicking your a$$ and at the end of the day I will still have my position.
And I am a Bill Cosby wannabe...lol? You are a fake ass Malcolm X. Trying to pretend you are just this high and mighty, educated black man who is looking out for the children's best interest. You know if any young man tried to fight you, you are going to protect yourself. Instead of sounding positive, you sound like a brother who has been locked up before, and while in jail you read a few damn books and think you know everything about everyone. You keep mentioning BLACK YOUTH. It's not just black youth, it's all youth that are in trouble. So stop focusing on just black. The comments you are making, you sound like you were one of those troublemakers in school and want people to feel sympathy. I love what I do but it is not an easy job!
And again I say, people should be happy and greatful for that matter that people want to teach these bad a$$ kids. Not all of them are bad and that's the sad part. The kids that want to learn you have to stop and discipline the bad kids cutting short the learning time of the ones that are there for an education.
So escotericdredz you have your opinion and I have mind and mine is still going to stay the same and at the end of the day this Bill Cosby wannabe is still going to be teaching. So you go write some spoken word or something and preach to someone who gives a damn about what you are talking about. What's up Crismon?
I hope you don't have kids, because I am sure they make their teacher's life hell on earth because their daddy knows a few laws. That woman was older and had to do what was necessary for the girl to let her go. If that lady can be charged with assault with a weapon for a SHOE then that girl should have additional threat charges added for telling the teacher that she was going to pull her wig off.
@ crimson, no I dont expect black youth to be messed up, I am sensitive to, and aware of, the issues and difficulties that many disadvantaged black youth face and I expect and demand of professionals working with them to be sensitive to them as well. The LAST thing a group of kids, many of whom have been told they are bad and will never amount to shyt since they could walk, need is for someone ELSE to be negative and tear them down further...And for kids, many of whom are coming from violent environments, fighting with people who are authority figures sure doesn't help the situation....
Look, i'm not trying to take this in a negative direction...Because of the work that my parents did there's nothing I respect more than GOOD committed teachers....But your profession is too damn important to young people to allow bad apples in...and that teacher in this film is a bad apple based upon how she handled the situation.
The approach to dealing with kids has become more and more punative and less and less therapeutic.....Which is backwards given the number of kids both with mental health issues as well as those with serious issues of trauma (from violence, sexual abuse, etc...). People need to stop labeling kids as just bad and try to understand and emphasize with WHY they are acting out and try to make the situation better...ANd in the school districts around me, you have to pull teeth to do that unfortunately.
eso- nobody is calling or treating the kids this way we are just talking amongst each other!! If there is one thing I have learned, it is that children know who care about them and who don't. My kids know that I can get on their level and care about them all in the same breath so they don't test me and they trust me too.
@ memdancediva...LMAO, thanks dear, now THAT's funny....
To get it straight, never locked up, multiple degrees (including one in African American studies that required MORE than just a few books) and a law degree....So fall back with the typical stereotypes of black men....They do not apply...
And I know that young people are in trouble everywhere but look at the statistics and you will see that it is CHILDREN OF COLOR who are disproportionately getting locked up and incarcerated....and it is children of color, especially in inner cities, whose educational systems are disproportionately failing them. And lets not be coy, when most of these posters are talking about bad kids, you KNOW they arent talking about bad white kids in the suburbs...
My thought is this...There are tons of children in our community that are in need...Either work to uplift them and make them better or step off, because they dont need anyone else beating them down any more.
I think its funny that you try to use Brother Malcolm as an insult...You are damned right...I work day in and day out to help the kids in the black community every one else wants to shyt on and I will advocate for them until the bitter end...So you are right, we can agree to disagree...I just hope I dont see YOU in handcuffs based on this type of behavior one day..lol...
crimsonsongstress Flag post eso- nobody is calling or treating the kids this way we are just talking amongst each other!! If there is one thing I have learned, it is that children know who care about them and who don't. My kids know that I can get on their level and care about them all in the same breath so they don't test me and they trust me too. --------------------------------------------- You know what, that's what's up, I can respect that....
@wifey, I am just being honest. Many counselors don't do what they should, we don't even have them in our schools, they weren't doing a good job. I am not saying you or people who you know, I am saying the kids had no direction, nothing was being done on the counselor's end. It was always something.
Reading comprehension.....I said all along that I respect those teachers who take pride and approach the job properly...The issue I have is with those who don't....I made that clear throughout...
However I still disagree...and agree to disagree..with you AND her on the overall issue of the post....The Bottom Line, as I already stated, if the teacher is SOOOO in the right here, why did her OWN SCHOOL DISTRICT criticize her behavior instead of backing her up...and why is she being criminally charged as well (likely with more serious charges than the girl when its all said and done)?
LOL...I am a man who made it, yet haven't forgotten where i've come from...if that's looking like a thug, so be it...But trust, I throw on the Brooks Brothers and carry it every bit as professional as anyone...
And for the record, its empowering black youth because our children have enough potential and ability that they dont need anyone to "save" them...Just direction and people to put in the effort...
@wifey, I have been looking into putting my kids in privte schools as well, in the next year. They are still toddlers. I put them first, and want the best for them. They way things are going now, and what I have experienced I would NEVER, put my kids in a public school, it is just that serious. P.S. It sounds to me that you do a great job, and that is good to hear.
Since there has been such stimulating conversation between people from different professions, who can offer some input? I am about to start my thesis and I am having trouble picking a topic that I can find research on that focuses on issues in the music classroom. Once I start my doctoral program in the spring, I am going to do research for my dissertation on the different academic strengths of vocalists vs. instrumentalists. I am also going to do research on parental involvement in the arts and see if the parents are presented with the many advantages that their child can have if they study music, will the level of parental involvement change. Exciting stuff!! Any input from anyone?
The teacher whooped that fat b*tches a**. All the student was really doing was holding her hair. She won't really throwin' them thangs, lmao. The teacher was swingin' hard AND FAST. DAMMNNN. I wish that b*tch would have touched my mother.......she would have only signed her own death warrant. She wouldn't have done that to an older woman in my family...........hell to the naw.
*private*, I don't care if it was a substitute teacher or not, they went to school also. I know subs with doc., and master's degrees that sub, because they don't want the stress of a classroom, or what you jave to deal with, that have been doing it for YEARS. That was a horrible thing to witness. No respect today.
You would expect a 17 year-old young student to win a fight with a 50 year-old woman. But that teacher was not backing down. She was taking it to the streets with that girl. She should have gone old school and kicked the shoes off, took the glasses and the earrings off, and wen midevail on that girl. If the woman has to defend herself, since the girl's friends didn't break the fight up, than that's just what she has to do. It is sad though
@esotericdredz you speak the truth. It's much deeper than the "label". But if you pull it apart, like you are doing, as it should be, some will take offense. I heard of this (video). I will not watch it. I can not comment like I would like. I can't because someone will become offended. I will take it personal. I have to save my energy for my kid. I feel you esotericdredz. but your view is not common amongst us. That's why there is so much of this sort of behavior. If more took the time to know, what a better place this will be. I will not get it twisted.
It all comes down to this... if you're not a teacher, you have NO IDEA how kids can be! Even some parents don't know what their child is capable of! Shout out to all my fellow teachers on here!
I have a lot to say, but I'll keep it brief, because as "Lovely 81" stated, it's the end of the year and I am completely burnt out!
First of all, we really don't know who started this altercation because this video only shows us "remnants." We can't see what led up to it, and we don't know if there are other things the video didn't capture. It's impossible to tell who started it by this video. We also don't hear any dialogue exchanged between student and teacher.
Butch31.... you said "kids will be kids", but I disagree! It's not "normal" behavior to hit a teacher!! Did you hit your teacher as a child? When I was a child, we respected our teachers and FEARED our Principal! Kids today don't respect or fear ANYONE! Getting beat up on is NOT part of a teacher's job description!! A child like this needs to be in a school for special-needs kids. Period.
Ms. Arrogance, you said you have a problem with teachers who try to "dress better than the kids." I don't get this. So, I should be bummy and homely? You also said, you're glad you have a career where you had to earn your position. Are you implying that teachers don't? You are sadly mistaken. Most of the teachers I know have multiple degrees and certifications! (Including myself!!) Most of us realize we have to, if we want a competitive salary! Believe me, those certification tests are NO JOKE! Lastly, you said you bet that the teacher wasn't expecting an "ass whooping that day." No, I would imagine she wasn't. I believe she probably went to school to do her job and be RESPECTED, as we ALL do.
Esotericdreds, I normally agree with your posts, but this time, we don't see eye to eye! You said that the teacher should have gone to get a Principal, and I agree that would have been the best way to handle it. However, what if there was no way to reach him/her? In my school, oftentimes, there is no working phone in the classroom! Or... what if the classroom was in an isolated part of the building and there were no teachers within yelling or walking distance? Or...what if there simply wasn't time? If it were me, I would have walked out into the hallway. That way, if something happened, I would not be trapped in the classroom with just a group of students. Who knows, other students might want to jump in!
I'm apalled that so many people on here are attacking the teacher!! Some of you need to volunteer/intern at an urban school and work in the trenches before you get all judgemental!!! You have no idea what you're talking about! Thankfully, there seems to be more level-headed people on here.
CNN reporters Betty Nguyen and Rob Marciano seemed to think this was something to make light of. They made all kinds of jokes while they watched and played the video. This is another perfect example of how when it's about people of color it's hilarious, but when it's a white person involved, it's horrific. I think it's time CNN receives some complaints about these two reporters.
EVERYONE WHO READS THIS, IF YOU'RE AS SHOCKED AS I WAS TO HEAR WHAT THESE TWO REPORTERS HAD TO SAY ABOUT THIS SAD EVENT, PLEASE SEND CNN AN EMAIL OR LETTER ASKING THAT THESE TWO REPORTERS BE REPRIMANDED FOR THEIR BEHAVIOR ON AIR AT THE VERY, VERY LEAST. I PERSONALLY THINK A SUSPENSION WOULD BE MORE SUITABLE, BUT LET'S SEE WHAT CNN CONSIDERS A JUST PUNISHMENT.
This is the email I sent to CNN today and anyone else who found CNN's reporting to be as disturbing as I did needs to do the very same.
I found the video posting on CNN of the student and substitute teacher fighting deeply disturbing. I was shocked by the video content. But what I found to be more troubling was the accompanying reporting by CNN reporters Betty Nguyen and Rob Marciano. It saddens me that news reporters can find humor and make jokes while witnessing a tragic event such as this, comparing it to a hockey game brawl. This was a classroom in a public school. What kind of irresponsible reporting is this? I'm disappointed in CNN and it's news reporters, and although Anderson Cooper's show is one of my favorites, I think it's time to reconsider my choice for news coverage. Very irresponsible CNN.
Never can tell what happened and why. The teacher may have started the whole thing so you never know. But kids nowadays get away with murder and not too much we can do about it.
Alls I know is that I can't deal with teens too much unless I know they cool, they approach me with respect or it's family. I was asked one time to sub in the school system and I flatly told em HELL NO!!! I know how I get and I ain't doing no time for breaking a chair over a kids head or throwing one of em out a window. I know people that teach and substitute in different schools and it's the same problem everywhere.
My mans was substituting at a high school(he's a nut-ball forreal!) and a student of his approached him on some "he heard about him in the streets s.h.i.t". My mans thought it was funny and turned away. Out of nowhere the kid tries to come at em from behind. My mans new what time it was, yoked the kid up and slammed him on his neck. Unfortunately, my mans spent almost the next 2 years in and out of court and scraping around for jobs and on unemployment.
Sad Sad Scene. That ignoramous child is going to regret her actions. The teacher didn't seem to have much of a choice in the matter since the student approached first. It is just terrrible. No wonder there is a shortage of educators. No one wants to be bothered with a bunch of kids with too many problems. Except God, and he is the only one that can save any of us.
I cosign with all the fellow teachers that posted on here. Only we know what we are faced with each day. For those of you who feel that she was wrong, did you notice that they were fighting all of nearly five minutes and no one including security showed up to assist? Also if the teacher was planning on fighting the student why did she have papers in her hand as if she were getting ready to leave? Now I have not been in many fights before, but if I go in planning to fight someone I'm not going to have anything any my hand. Before I finish, one more question for those people that feel the teahcer was wrong, what would you have done in that situation? Would you have sat there and let the student beat the shyt out of you until someone came which clearly judging from the fact that they were still fighting when the video went off, it was going to be a while.
One thing I've learned since teaching is to never say what you would not do because when faced with a situation the reality of the matter is you don't know what you would do. Overall I think it's sad that she even had to go to those lengths, but I don't blame her for defending herself if that were the case.
