Universal Motown pop R&B songstress Ashanti’s The Declaration looks to be in the 80k range.. All we can say is - WOW!!! We knew that she's have trouble selling - but 80K units???? That's almost as bad as Kelly Rowland.
We reached out to one person in Ashanti's camp about selling 80,000 units and she gave MediaTakeOut.com a one word response - "Devastating!!!"

Ashanti is done..during her peak, Murder Inc and Ja Rule were hot and their records were selling like hot cakes..she was doing cameos with Rule, he was on her records..now, you cant pay people to buy a Ja Rule record and Murder Inc is practically non-existent..she was their "first lady" so she got a lot of attention and hype behind her..despite her weak vocals..she needs to stick to song writing..this isnt 2002..times have changed, the industry has changed..I asked my 11 year old niece a few months ago who she felt was played out, and she said "Ashanti"..and this was before the new song came out..if young people find you irrelevant, youre not going to sell albums..theyre the ones who create the hype, who request your videos and songs, if there is no demand for you, its over

Everybody knows that the only thing that ashanti has that she made it this far was her looks it wasn't like she had the best voice in the world or can even dance for that matter. It's just a sign of the times. Album sells are down for many different reasons. It's only a few artist who will still have a major impact here in the States period. You can thank Corporate Takeover of the airwaves for the decline. They have plotted to destroy our music for years by promoting the "bubblegum" artist, while disregarding our truly talented artist. Now throw in a declining economy, lack of trust, downloading, bootlegging etc.
@MsCandy50..yup I get my music for free too..lol..I cant justify paying amost $18 for a CD from someone with sub-par vocals who was hot back in 2002..I mean, I like her new song, but I wouldnt put my money up on her..the chances of me really feelin her album are too risky..my rent is too damn expensive, gas is too expensive, artists are going to have to find different ways to sell music and make money because no one is really selling besides a handful of artists..and I think their record company buys most of their damn records..so its not even a true indication..Ashanti can barely sing, she cant dance and shes a boring performer..what kind of excitement and hype can she bring to the table?
I work in radio and trust me they didnt promote it well. She should have put at least 2 singles befor her album came out. Most people dont even know she has an album out. The timing was right, she didnt have to compete against Rihanna, Mariah, Beyonce, Jordin Sparks or Ciara. We're not even playing her single at my station, but we're playing all those other artist.
They got it right with Rihanna. She's got songs that can be played on hip hop, top 40, and Rythmic stations. You might not like her voice, but the songs are good and well produced. Ashanti still needs guidance from some with real experience in this business.
I agree that Rihanna has more "radio friendly" songs, but Ashanti's time is simply up..I mean I really feel her success was a fluke..she had that one song "Foolish"..it was a wild success..it was an anthem that all the girls were singing to because they felt what she was saying..it was a hot song..BUT, to me, that song was the peak of her career..everything else was baby baby..aww baby..and her vocals just arent there..plus, she has no real style..she looks like every other black princess type of girl who gets their hair and nails done..shes cute but shes not beautiful..she cant dance, she has no stage presence..she has this two-step that she does when she performs thats so lame..shes not a performer..Rihanna has a look, a presence, she can somewhat dance if she needs to and shes still new..shes only 20..Ashanti got her fame on the coat tails of Murder Inc and Ja-Rule's popularity, she cant do it on her own..shes a good songwriter and she can make money doing that
Ashanti fu-k these mo-fokas! I am going to be purchasing your new album on my next payday. As I mentioned before, I will be buying two copies one for my nieces and the other for myself. My nieces love them some Ashanti and I do too. I know it can be hard, but keep your head up. It's only been a week.

Ashanti should have pushed that album back until she had a hit single. She can do better than what she has been putting out if they can make no singing Britney Spears and [EXPLETIVE] Cat dolls, Mary J Blige albums with great production Ashanti's should be no different. I haven't heard her whole album but the two songs that she came out with were just okay they were not bangers. She has been messing up with her first singles since her second album.

Ashanti was never really that pretty. I would never give her a second look. Rihanna as a product is sexier, more exotic, and has much better songs. She has a unique look that cant be copied by just anyone. Throw in the accent, and those long legs of hers and you've got yourself one hot girl.
Even her associates are better than Ashanti's. Compare Ja Rule to Jay Z.
Also Rihanna appeals to the white crowd. All the white men I know thinks that Rihanna is one of the sexiest girls in the industry, and I agree.
You can say all the same things about Beyonce, who probably one of the best performers around.
Plus, once again, they both have better songs. Ashanti's only got one real hit.

1st off people who are saying she shoulda waited till she had a hit single, ugh, I think hitting number 2 on a Billboard Chart is a Hit single.
It is not Ashanti's fault that iTunes which rules determining the Billboard Charts now-a-days, screwed her over by having her single, "The Way That I Love You," just now/today chart on the iTunes Top 100 songs. When it was up to number 8 on the R&B iTunes charts. I think that's really fishy.
2nd for all the people saying stuff about Rihanna, it is because she is pulling in the white/Caucasian audience as well as the minority audience. But that is because Rihanna music is generally (since Good Girl Gone Bad) Pop music over R&B music. Didn't you notice, back when she didn't have her hair cut, and not singing songs, like "Don't Stop The Music," which is a techno-pop song, she was rarely talked about. And seriously who thinks Rihanna will ever top the success of, "Umbrella?" I don't think she can, sorry.
Regardless the CD is Hot! Ashanti did something different this time around, I only wish she had put more songs on the album. My favorite track from the CD as of now is, "In These Streets," and I did not hear any off note in that song. If you haven't bought the CD, you should if you want to hear some good R&B music.
Not to mention that Top 40 radio format stations screw her over by not playing her music as well. Because the Top 40 format where I live and have requested the song multiple times, hasn't played the song to my knowledge. Last song of Ashanti's I've heard them play was, "Rock Wit U (Awww Baby)," and is it ironic that song has a Pop feel, no. That's just an example to show that is why Rihanna is getting tons of airplay now days. And "The Way That I Love You," has reached number 37 on the Billboard Hot 100, which meant Top 40 formats shoulda played the song. All these inconsistent guidelines that weren't followed be [EXPLETIVE] me off.
Let me say first that I am an Ashanti fan. I love her music most times. The way that I love you was a hot track. But that is the only standout track on the album. I listened to the whole thing first because I didnt want to buy it and be disappointed and honestly I really was. I thought this album was gonna be a banger and it was a complete let down. I still love ya girl but your lyrics were just too weak for me this time around.

Well I understand selling high in first week sales is good, but regardless it also depends where the album lands on the Billboard 200. Because maybe this could just be a low album sales week. Because Earlier this year Janet debuted at number 1, though she didn't sell many. But still that is an accomplishment to debut at number 1, let alone in the top 10, when albums get leaked, illegally DLed, burned, etc. The music industry ain't half what it used to be, 5 years ago. Now we have digital DLs/iTunes runnin' the Billboard charts, and WAY too much illegal DL and leaking of albums.
Regardless I still hope Ashanti sells a good amount of her NEW, GREAT ALBUM, which has a ton of good songs! And if not selling so many, I hope she debuts high (10-2), if not at number 1.
I'm not an Ashanti Fan, but MTO stop hating on the black artist, it's like ya'll don't want anyone to do well. MUSIC doesn't sell they way it use to like back in the day when u actually had to buy the CD's. Why don't yall do a big story on that. Oh I guess that would be too much like the right thing to do!
